What snacks do you pack for a walking round of 18 holes ?

Recommended Posts

A buddy I play with a lot used to caddy at the Augusta National & has recently moved to Florida & is caddying at a club down there. He always brings a turkey sandwich on wheat & an apple when we play. He's 72 & very fit, I guess he knows what he needs & what works for him. I usually don't eat during a round, just drink a lot of water.

I like these "Pro Bars" as meal replacements and they're great for the golf course because they won't melt. If I happen to leave one in my bag for a week it doesn't fall to pieces or go bad.

I like the Peanut Butter and the Superfood Slam flavors.

Your protein bar is loaded with sugar.

Not true; there are plenty of low sugar protein bars on the market.  Costco sells one under the Kirkland brand that has 21g of protein and 2g of sugar.  The Pure Protein brand is pretty much the same thing.  There are many others that are low sugar, but I buy those in bulk at Costco.

I eat before the round in the morning and drink only water.

In the afternoon or twilight, I don't eat until after the round.

I used to back beef jerky, electrolyte drink, candy bar "crunch" in my cooler, a ham sandwich, and pack of cigarettes two decades ago. Now I don't consume none of that lol.

I want to keep my healthy fat guy status going.

Try this instead.

One to two scoops of protein powder, a cup of oats, one tbsp of peanut butter or EVOO, a little bit of milk or milk substitute(almond, rice, flax, etc.)and a banana or berries.  Blend away then throw in a shaker cup.  Also have a separate electrolyte drink with a cup of coffee or caffeine powder.  This is what I do and it helps sustain energy throughout the round.  The nice thing is that it also keeps the nasty critters from trying to tear open your golf bag.

Beat me to it. I always carry and this is my go to.

  • 1 year later...

I carry water whenever I play, year round. Extra water in summer.

If I'm not going to be eating lunch before the round, I make a sandwich before I leave home and put it in my bag. Either turkey or chicken and cheese sandwich or a peanut butter sandwich.

If I am going to be eating lunch before the round, I usually carry a small baggie of roasted unsalted nuts to snack on.

Not very elaborate, really. Anything more that I want I can buy at the clubhouse before or after the round.

Solid, and will be with me this weekend, thanks!

I typically have a peanut butter & banana sandwich, 2 granola bars, one LOW sugar protein bar, and a carb gel (yuk) if I have them around.  And of course a water bottle.  Before anyone gives me crap, no, I don't feel the compulsion to eat every 15 minutes....the sandwich and granola bars are for low BG -- lifelong Type I diabetic, and even putting my insulin pump into exercise mode when I walk I sometimes get low. These items are lightweight and do the trick.

CocktailS are for the 19th hole.  🙂

Pb and j is much better than nothing.  Also dates.

But animal protein is best fuel.  I try to load up before.  3 eggs omelet.  Maybe 5/6 boiled eggs. Some turkey.  Around 50g. Then during I’ll have a hotdog or a turkey sandwich at the turn.  And carry dates and  a pb and j for every 3 holes snack.     A water additive is a must too.  I like one with amino acid replacement. I’ll also sprinkle on some pink sea salt.  Whne I’m dehydrated I crave salt. I personally believe  in listening to your cravings.   I’m not one who’s ever craving sweets. So for me it works. It makes you go pee.  And that seems to help everything.  I pack 4 20oz bottles of this.  And I’ll usually buy 2 bottles or refill empties at the turn with just plain h2o.  I generally down 6 during or just after a walking round of 18 on the summer.   And that’s probably minimum in above 90 degree heat.

I'm a walker too and I absolutely feel a difference if I'm not eating something every 4-5 holes.

Right before the round I have a yogurt.

During the round I'll have 2 protein bars and a banana.

Always drink a lot of water. It really annoys me when I'm at a course that doesn't supply drinkable water.
