I knew low scores were out there, but I didn't see this one coming. Superb performance by Ayaka. Putting is definitely for dough, as Lydia can attest. 

 

Good week for Lydia despite the sluggish weekend. Hopefully she gets her putter sorted out next week. Maybe she can ask Brooke if she'd be willing to give her back her old one that she unwisely deposited in a trashcan. Lol. 

 

Hyo Joo doing another silent assassin routine. Has a way of sneaking up on Sundays.

Indeed, Brooke is such a fierce competitor!  Like Brooke last week, Lydia built a similar lead after the second round but failed to close the deal.

With Ayaka and Jeeno already winning and Hye-Jin knocking on the door, wonder which one will come down with the dreaded sophomore slump next year? Appears Yuka is taking part in the slump right now.

Yuka could be slumping a bit due to getting acclimated to a full season on the LPGA tour, I don't think any of these 3 ladies will be struggling anytime soon, altho maybe Ayaka can get exposed a bit by the longer courses on US soil.

Ayaka is pretty short off the tee, but she's only 5 yds shorter than the world no.1

Inbee managed a few wins in her day, hitting the big stick around 245.

I think she is very close too (SYR and her were my "hope" pikes for the two remaining majors).  Her driver and iron swings are so different though.  One is in perfect balance (granted this week had a lot of partial shots) and the other reminds me of Phil; just waiting for something to go wrong 14 times per round🙈.  A few good breaks and she'll win though.

 

On a different note, I've also wondered whether one of Hyundai' competitors could approach her for a sponsor deal?  Would be funny to see her walk around with another logo😆

lol it has nothing to do with Monnahan, hes the PGA side of the joint contract the PGA and LPGA negotiated with the US Broadcasters. With the way tournament venues needing to be forced to take the US Womens Open (by threatening to take away the mens tournament) it would do far more damage to the LPGA. The PGA has nothing to answer. You would ask questions and they would just say thats and LPGA matter, the ladies run their own tour, the PGA deals with the portion of the contract they negotiated.

Inbee is probably the best putter of all time, man or woman 🙂

 

I agree though, she has a good all around game, I like all 3 players long term outlook over Yuka.

Yep, I agree that her putter was definitely absent those last two rounds.

 

(For L.Ko, I also noticed particularly on Sunday that her approach shots were not up to her best level of play which I am sure did not help those putting stats at all.)

Interesting thing about Lydia is that her flaky driver held up, and it was the strong parts of her game that  let her down.

 

Ayaka was just sensational. We can talk all we like about golf statistics and the importance of length, but if someone hits it like that and makes most of the putts, it just doesn't matter. I loved the alternate angle shot of Furue's putt on 18, in particular the reaction of Hyo Joo Kim to yet another putt straight into the heart!

 

Can I withstand two more tournaments of British commentating?

 

And in my coverage they went to an ad break and missed live coverage of Furue's putt on 18. When they came back she was in the clubhouse! Good work, guys!

I'm not sure I can... announcers generally do not bother me but I do find one of the LPGA European announcers a bit overdone and annoying.
