Has Azinger mentioned how small Harman is?  This hole I mean, because that is the only piece of information he apparently knows about Brian.

And there exactly is the issue. The rules are complex enough to set up a scenario where it's either 1) play quickly or 2) ensure every rule is followed exactly.

"play it as it lies"... "as long as that's not breaking some other rule"

That was not an obscure rule, though. Full relief is a rule which professional golfers should know.

If really amazes me that some people who play and caddy professionally do not know the rules of golf - even simple ones. You'd think that they would make it a priority, especially since the rules are there to help in a lot of situations.

If winning was easy, losers would do it.

the sheer fact even pros have to call in rules officials on everything is the exact reason the rules of golf suck. if the pros get confused or need clarity on everything, then the problem isnt lack of knowing the rules, its that the rules are so stupidly vague and complex that its impossible to "play it as it lies" and "by the rules" without end up hating the game these days. just played a tournament the other day that the entire course was either red stakes or OB, no yellow anywhere. made for some real slow play on top of a few real long drops after it taking forever to determine the proper drop area

Yeah I hear ya, but there are a lot of rules though!

I'm a casual soccer fan during the world cup, and even though it seems the only quirky rule there is "off sides", I can barely follow what's going to happen next. A lot of it seems totally random to me. I can only image what golf looks like to a casual fan.

Offside rule is simple and not random. You can't leave a guy on the opposing side to try to counter attack with a long pass. Basically a force dribble to go past defenders.

Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of players on Tour call in rules officials for any instance which might be "gray area" where they know a favorable ruling can save them strokes.

If you're only likely to get a favorable ruling 1/4 of the time, but it's something that can save you a full stroke which could be worth massive amounts of money based on where you finish in the tournament, you might as well try to use the rules to your advantage as much as you can possibly justify, right?

After all, almost every time you see a player on Tour take a drop, they account for their drop and the slope of the relief area such that it's nearly impossible for the ball to stay within the area of relief. So you take two drops, then you get the opportunity to place the ball in a perfect lie. They want every edge they can get, and calling in rules officials is a way to get cover for their interpretation of the rules and not end up having an issue post-round and getting penalized.

And then there were two. Looks like a Zalatoris, Straka battle.

Will isn't making the putts he needs to run away with it, but Straka isn't making the putts to take it from him either.

This could be a pretty good finish!

After Straka's tee shot, a simple mid-range par putt for Will could win this tournament.

Of course, for Will, there's no such thing as a simple mid-range putt.
