I wish he would have gone over and played if after the tournament was over. Maybe he did?  Probably not.

I can't believe that he took so long to decide, actually.

If I had been his caddy I would have run back to the drop zone with all of his clubs. 😂

You never leave your wingman!

He would have had to chase me all the way to the parking lot to get a club! 😂

Edit: OK, he wouldn't have had to chase me nearly that far. I'm 62 years old. 🤣

If winning was easy, losers would do it.

Get YouTube sparked up and type in 'Carnoustie 1999'.

It's worth it just for the late Peter Alliss's commentary.

One of the best commentaries.

Straka must have the I.Q. o a root vegetable with apologies to turnips and potatoes.

First Zelatoris almost hits if out of bounds and Straka instead of jus hitting it in the fairway, takes a 3 wood and dam near hits in the water into a unplayable lie on the pond bank.  He gets out of that hole and then after Zelatolris almost hits it in the pond, he instead of just playing for the center of the green, does hit it in the pond and  with a drop hits in in a bunker. You see more golf intelligence and better shot making  in the fourth flight of a club championship.

Maybe a little harsh, but Straka had to play long.  Take water entirely out of play.

On a 453 yard par 4 with water all along the left and deep bunkers/OB right, I really don’t think it’s as simple as “just hitting the fairway”. That is a brutally tough tee shot and you aren’t going to lay back with a 3 or 4 iron because you would have way too much in on your second shot. But I agree that straka should have aimed 20 yards left of the flag on the 11th and two putted for the win. Golf be hard, though. Simply ask Will Zalatoris about that.

These guys are tour players not a 5 handicap at the local club. Only brain freeze can explain hitting a hook with a 3 wood dam near into a pond. Sacrifice 10 yards distance, aim in the lefr of the fairway and hit a slight fade and you're the winner.

Great finish there, enjoyed the heck out of it.  I like both guys so I couldn't lose.

For people talking about how bad the golf was... both guys making pars after their tee shots on #18 was pretty great.

Straka had to know to play long after WZ's shot to the stone wall... Probably just a mishit.  So not stupidity, just a mistake, which can happen to anyone.

Announcers indicated Straka added a club when Willy Z. played ping pong on the wall (went from PW to 9i).  My guess is he tried to 3 finger the 9 and mishit it as you suggest.

Exactly. Worst three words in golf

“you’re still away”

I'd argue that it's surely 'It's your car!' after you check the car park with your playing partners after hooking one on 18 and hearing both a loud bang and an alarm sounding.

They both made par, pards. Laying back not obviously better.

What an incredible ending! Even my 8 year old was sitting next to me watching in excitement the whole time.

Reminded me of when my two boys would watch with me when they were youngsters.

Those are the best of times.

Big shout out to Z.  Congratulations. Nothing but respect.

for Rustynuts.   A ball is still where it is, even if it is in a hazard.   So , even though the player with a ball in a hazard may eventually go back and play from farther away perhaps almost back to right in front of the tee box, that does not happen until the other player gets closer than where the ball in the penalty area is or approximately is.  this has happened on televised events with rules officials.  I specifically remember a womens tournament a few years ago on a long dog leg left with one player way out in the water on the left who did not play first,  when virtually all involved and the broadcast crew were surprised by what the rules official told them why the player in the water should not play first..

And sadly he's right. The day after a tournament with a shot like that is a free for all and quite dangerous.

How many hit the elevated turf and fall into the H20?

I think Will Z is going to be like SS, now that he has won, he may go off on a run the next six months...He does scare me with the driver, he is very wild with it,but his wedge play is as good as any right now

Didnt someone here on WRX say WZ was a perennial bridesmaid and would never win...

His irons are spectacular. The driver is long, but looks like it's not invulnerable to nerves.

I'd love to see him develop a pressure go-to like a small cut or draw.

Wow what a conclusion to a rather important Playoff tournament this afternoon it was down in Memphis .

Since he came on TOUR I've been a fan of Mr. Zalatoris. I have been amazed at his coolness and his ability to exude extreme confidence while battling on some of professional golf's biggest stages right out of college. Few out there can equal his ball striking skills. He doesn't let tough spots rattle him one bit. Many of his expressions I see while I watch him play I find rather entertaining. I like his swashbuckler demeanor a bunch. He is wafer thin yet can just bring it. I got home from work today at 4:30 and set up some HULU PGA TOUR action on my laptop.  I am wicked happy I got to watch the exciting home stretch finish and playoff LIVE. Will Z.  finally snagged a trophy.  I captured this fine photo after that very important putt was dropped.

I want to see an attempt from the wall/collar

I think everybody will try. It depends how soft that collar was.
How that ball stayed on the rocks will be a thing of golf mystery. That was a Fred Couples on #12 at the Masters.
Luck is involved.
