Vice Tour Ball

JWells

Recommended Posts

Ordered a dozen from Amazon because why not? I have read decent reviews and this is my first step into Vice golf balls.  Does anyone full time game Vice? Which ball do you game? And at which price point

The Tour is okay, I found one the other day and it's fine. A little bit firmer/clickier than the Pro Plus that I game. Also maybe a little bit higher flight, but that might just be me. It's a bit of an unfair comparison, with the Tour as a 3-piece Surlyn ball, vs the Pro Plus as a 4-piece urethane ball.

I find that the Pro Plus is 95% of the performance of a Pro V1, for 55% of the price. Feel is great through the whole bag from the driver to the putter. The Pro V1 spins a bit more around the greens but I can stop a Pro Plus no problem.

I go for a “higher” ball flight ball that’s what turned me on for the TP5X. So I’ll be interested to see

The VT has an ionomer cover vs the TMTR having a thermoset urethane cover so very different. The ionomer 3-piece TM Soft Response would be closer.

IMHO, skip multilayer ionomer covered offerings (negligible performance vs 2-piece ionomer yet more expensive). The Vice Drive and Tour are mediocre ionomer offerings. Vice’s real value are the Pro/Pro Plus models (good quality thermoset urethane offerings made by Foremost).

Started playing the Vice Pro Soft towards the end of the season and lie them a lot. It will be my go to ball for 2023.

Clubs: Ping (Driver, 5W, 5H, 6H, 7i-UW), Cleveland (wedges), Odyssey 2-Ball counter balanced

Ball: Maxfli Tour (yellow) or Vice Pro (neon lime); Callaway ORG 7 bag; Shot Scope x5

Yep, the last ball I'm trying is the Z star Diamond. Playing it now whenever it's warm enough for me to play. But if I decide against it. The Vice pro Soft is the ball I will play. I'm surprised by that ball and liked it from the start. To me it's the best ball Vice has!! The Diamond is a good balk, But 2 things, It's expensive, and the durability is lacking to me.

I gamed the Vice Tour for over a year or two until late 2020.  I really like that ball.  It is a little clicky but once you get past that it is one of the longest balls I've played and a very stable ball flight.  I do prefer it over the 2 piece surlyn/ionomer covered balls due to some better spin and control around the greens.  There is a noticeable difference IMHO.  During most of the lockdown I worked a lot on my short game and found I would benefit from using a urethane covered ball.  I switched to the Vice Pro/Maxfli Tour/Snell MTB-X (got 3 dozen as a birthday gift.  LOL).  I've used the Tour Response, TP5, TP5-X and liked them all.  Vice Pro and Maxfli Tour are the best bang for the buck for Urethane balls and can stand up to the ProV-1.  I occasionally go back to using the Vice Tour, especially when the course conditions do not offer any benefits for urethane balls such as soft fairway and green conditions where the added spin of the urethan balls would not mean much.  I've been experimenting with newer 2 piece balls recently in those conditions as well and found that I can score just as good with a good 2 piece ball (Cut Red - $12.99/doz.) as I can with the Vice Tour.  Cut Red seems to be one of the better 2 piece balls.  Don't like their 3 piece balls but the Red is a GOOD 2 piece ball.

Conclusion:  If you're not a player that can utilize the spin of the urethane covered balls or the spin hurts your game I would stick to the Vice Tour ($22.99/doz or $18.99/doz for 5 or more) or a good 2 piece ball $9.99 - $19.99 (Cut Red is $12.99 on line or retailers like Target or Walmart.  Just because you are a low to mid handicapper does not automatically mean you should use a urethane covered ball either.  That is all preference AND your game.  I play with a guy who has an 8 handicap and he uses Pinnacle Rush.

I put the Vice Pro up against almost every major ball this winter on a multi-day trackman test (ProV, TP5, Zstar, Chrome Soft) and the Vice came away as my favorite ball. One day i did it versus a ProV head to head and it launched higher, spun a bit more and went further with 4 different clubs.

This is just my experience, every swing with work different but the Vice Pro is 100% a legit ball

I bought some Vice Pro Drip on there Black Friday sale

1st time using their ball and it is a very good ball

I am currently playing the Wilson Triad and it was very similar

The Vice "felt" softer off of the irons than the Triad

Feel is subjective but I felt it was noticeable

I still have plenty left so I am going with them for a while

Very pleased so far

Also got some Vice Pro Zero but havent had a chance to put them through the paces yet.

Why not just go with the Vice Pro Soft especially if you want more greenside control? It's basically the Same ball as the pro tour but it is a Urethane cover Ball. In my opinion unless you swing over 110mph the Vice Pro Soft is the best Ball Vice Has for SS under that. It's a soft (but not marshmallow soft) and it has a very nice ball flight and spins very well into and around the Greens. I'm trying z star diamond right now and from comparison the Vice Pro soft and z star Diamond are VERY similar. I'm likely going to end up just play Vice Pro soft because I can get them in yellow.

I've heard they are starting to show up in some big box retailers but I haven't seen them.  But, yes, this is a direct to consumer brand that is online only.  The shipping is like $6.99.  So, If you buy the 5 doz. discount it adds $1.40 per dozen to the cost.  In order to get the bulk discount they have to be from the same line.  Tour, Drive or Pro lines.

I have seen Vice balls at every Target and Walmart in my area, but as previously noted prices will be higher than ordering multiple dozen direct.

Seems like brick and mortar stores like Target and Walmart sell the Vice Pro models and the Vice Drive but do not sell the Vice Tour in-store.

I used the Vice Tour for most of the year and liked it quite a bit as it was pretty long and decent around the greens .  Near the end of the season here (Minnesota) once the leaves started dropping I wanted a yellow ball to help me find it easier and since the Tour only comes in white I thought I would try the Callaway ERC Soft since I heard good things about it.  What a revelation, to me, the ERC Soft was noticeably longer and softer feeling and had better control on approaches and greenside.  Not trying to go overboard, but for me, the ERC Soft is the best ball I've ever played and I will be using it next year.

I've been playing Vice balls for at least 5 yrs. Started with the Pro, then moved to the Pro Soft (Matte version), then finally to the Pro Plus. I get them in bulk straight from Vice with my WRX handle on them. When in a bind, I will use BX, TP5, Z-Star ot Pro-V. I find the Prop Plus to be just as good as any of them. I may try some Pro Soft for winter golf now that they aren't matte any more. They got dirty really fast.

To me that Pro soft is as good a ball as any for anyone under 105ss. I've been trying the z star Diamond which I love, but it is almost identical imo to the Pro Soft. But the downfall to the Diamond is no yellow. I love be able to get the Pro Soft in yellow. My driver SS BTW is 93. Can get to 98 on a good day depending on my back. The Pro Soft is long for me. Gets me out around 260yds which is plenty for me. I play to a 4hdcp. Again Pro soft from vice is just a Great ball for just about anyone on this board!
