Hole in One - Do you count them if it was on a Par 3 Course??

Because you get only 4 chances during a traditional 18 holes and the par 3’s are different lengths. Unlike an executive par 3 course, where you can play basically every hole with pw or less and you’re basically hitting a similar shot 9 times in a row.

That's kind of like saying that because you play the same course 200 times a year, a hole in one on one of the par 3s doesn't count.  You had 600 chances to get a hole in one and you didn't get one?!?  You basically hit a similar shot 600 times!

If you look at the card for this course in question, there are 60 yard holes. Should those "count"? In this instance, the hole was 112 yards.

Holing out from 60 yards is just as difficult as from 150, IMO.  I've played twice a week for the last decade and I have just as many 60 yard hole-outs as I have 150 yard...0.

No, it’s certainly not even remotely like saying that 4 shots a day, 4 days a week over the course of it year is the same.

it would be like saying being gifted a perfect tee shot on every hole without having to hit your tee shot and then having the same or similar distance with a wedge or short iron into every hole from the middle of the fairway 18 times You don’t think your odds of holing one out increases?

It for sure counts... I just came back from Bandon Dunes and had a friend Hole out on 11 at the 13 hole par 3 Preserve Course.  it Counted!!!  We each paid him $50 bucks and he bought us all drinks. not one word of it being on a par 3 course.

I my opinion it has to be on a course that you can post a score for handicap purposes.  Par 3 courses are fun but you can't post your score for USGA handicap purposes.

USGA says the course only has to be 1500 yds for 9 holes or 3000 yds for 18 to have a slope/course rating.  There's an Executive course by my house that's 3200 yds and counts for handicap.  15 par 3s, and 3 par 4s.

One hole is 210 over water.  If I put it in the hole in one stroke, best believe I'm counting it!

I would count that as well as it is rated.  Most of the 3's around here are pitch and putt!

No way. With this math holing out from 250 yards is just as difficult as from 150 yards, which then equates to saying holing out from 250 yards is as difficult as holing out from 60 yards.

I don't know.. instinctively, a HIO is only a thing because it's rare and difficult (and/or requires an awful lot of luck). Its rarity is reinforced by the fact that a "normal" golf course only has so many par-3s. If you get 18xRounds chances at something, it's a less impressive feat than if you get 3. And HIOs are supposed to be impressive or they lose some of their meaning.

Perhaps less of a factor, but a factor nonetheless, you get into a groove hitting short-mid irons or wedges from a perfect lie (tee) everywhere. If you had to sprinkle in some drives, long irons and funky lies that can seep into your mental game, the chances of getting one on the next par three is slimmer than if you're already dialed in to par-3 distance/play.

It's still impressive, and it's still worthy of mentioning in a conversation about HIOs, but imho, with a preface.

Or, going in the other direction, holing out from 10 yards would be just as easy as holing out from 1 yard.

Of course it counts on the card.  But for me I would feel like I still need to do it on a regulation course, playing all 18 holes with a legit score.  Meaning no practice shots, no skipped holes, etc.

I sense a strong positive correlation between the responses and those who made their hole-in-one on a par 3 course.  😄

If you played the ball from the teeing area and your shot goes in the hole, it's a hole in one. I don't care if it looks pretty, skips off the pond, hits a tree, or even bounces off the windmill. If it counts as a one on the scorecard it's a hole in one.

... Not so fast. I don't have a HIO and I don't play Par 3 or Executive courses but tip my cap to those that do and make a HIO. I think we can defer to the Bridgekeeper from the Holy Grail:

Bridgekeeper: Stop. Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see.
WRX Member: Ask me the questions, bridgekeeper. I’m not afraid.

Bridgekeeper: What is your favorite color?

Bridgekeeper: Where did you have your Hole IN One?
WRX Member: A Scramble.
Bridgekeeper: Go on. Off you go.
WRX Member: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.

The line has to be drawn somewhere. Right?

I agree that HIO on par 3 courses do not count, or at least you have to put an * next to it whenever you tell the story.

Jokes on me. I got my first ace yesterday. Of course it was on a nine hole par 3 course 🤣

I’ve only made them on normal golf courses but if I made one at the local par 3 course, I’m counting it as #8 in my books.

Then why not count hole-outs from fairways they’re actually hardest since there’s no tee-peg used.

I see it like this. Hole in ones are fun, and rare. Why try to rain on someone's parade because of a technicality? Just seems pretty crummy to me.
