Too old ... Bama doesn't want to go thru this again that soon, Bellichick doesn't want to coach kids. He barely coached rookies.

Yep.  It more just struck me as funny timing.

seems they’ve put a 72 hour clock on it. So we won’t have to wonder for too long.

Gotta get a head coach with a team of coaches to do what Harbaugh did with his team

I think given how fluid talent moves in the portal, it’s the “system” that becomes paramount, as important as recruiting.

Like, not just your philosophy on O and D, but having a system that lets you  train up guys fast and doesn’t rely on big time recruits as much

Because your big recruits could pack up and hit the portal next year lol

Hopefully, we get some great basic football. I prefer great D and power running football at the college level. All the “chucking” is fun, but I prefer good old smash mouth.

That's not true.

His grad assistants do the cheating on Harbaugh's staff.

The biggest thing for these guys is playing time.  A guy who plays is most likely not entering the portal, unless the coaches turn out to be complete d-bags, in which case the guy was transferring no matter what.  PT is why talent moves.  Outside of Matt Cassel, anyone heard of any other NFL players who got drafted having hardly played? People like to play the "he didn't want to complete for the job" crap that coaches like to throw out there, but when the kid's eligibility is used up, the coach doesn't care if he plays in the NFL or not, except insofar as it helps recruiting.  The kid is right to think I can run the risk of not getting the starting job, not play, or I can go here and show my stuff.

Always easy to tell someone else they should be the "depth" guy when it's not you having starting opportunities staring you in the face.

Looks like Bama chose Washington's DeBoer.

Wonder if he was the first choice, or they got turned down by anyone. It's a pretty fast hire.

Bama was turned down by Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Dan Lanning (Oregon) and Mike Norvell (FSU). Check this tweet out. This agent had a great few days. Agent for Saban, DeBoer, Sark, Lanning and Norvell. Well done.

Saban told Rece Davis he’ll still have an office in the stadium. That job is already going to be hard enough without the “retired” legend you’re trying to replace bumming around the facilities.

best of luck to de Boer; afraid he’s walking into an ambush.

I always wonder what would have happened to Alabama if Rich Rodriguez of WVU had accepted the Alabama job when it was offered in December 2006. Saban was still coaching the Miami Dolphins when RichRod declined the job. Would have changed D1 CFB history from Alabama to WVU to Michigan. RichRod stayed at WVU for one more season then left for Michigan for 2008 after an embarrassing loss to Pitt (nearly 30 point underdog) which cost WVU a spot in the BCS National Championship game.

Apparently the Washington players found about him leaving while watching TV.

But yep, players should be loyal to the school and all the other suits who would pull the same thing.

Have you missed the the last couple years since NIL started?  There’s no loyalty on either side. It’s a free agent bidding war out there.

Although I’ve always felt that if the coach that recruited you leaves, you should be able to transfer “penalty” free.

It reminds me of something I said here a couple weeks back. The couple from my gym (he’s an Oregon St. alum) going to see the Beavers in the Tony The Tiger bowl and taking a sign showing Jonathan Smith having his head cut off! All because he left for MSU! Absolutely absurd.

*btw security confiscated the sign before they went in 😆

think that was sarcasm on shank's part ...

if a revenue deal gets formulated, then players possibly will have to sign contracts, which will offer some ... continuity in some areas ... don't know though ... it's the wild wild west out there right now ...

that's not the best information for the new guy to hear, but i'm thinking there's a reason saban bought that $17M dollar home down there on jupiter island ... and we don't ambush our coaches ...

long as they win ...

Man, isn’t that the truth.

It just feels to me like the NCAA is hanging on by a thread as being the governing body of college football. It’s bad now, but the freefor all that I think might be coming could be even worse.

Yeah, I get it. Fans are incredibly loyal to their programs and feel betrayed when players leave. But they welcome new players in with open arms  🙄Human nature.

I remember reading about the early days of college football, you had 28 year old guys playing their 8th year of "college football" for their 3rd school.

Well, it's back.

Everything is fine…until it isn’t.

In the military, when an officer relinquishes command of a unit he/she disappears from the scene immediately. Removes any doubt amongst the troops about who is in charge; prevents loyalty from being divided.

Not what’s happening here, and it will likely prove problematic.
