I’ve been such a golf hoe for the last 5-10 years. Swear I’ve tried just about everything.   Ready to settle down and find my one and only.

if you were a single digit handicap who hits irons pretty well. Comfortable hitting any club 5-PW from blade go CB.  What would you say is the best iron in terms of feel, performance, forgiveness etc.  the best overall package iron?

i won’t really stick with one iron for rest of my life.  But if I could make it through a full season that would be an accomplishment.   I’d like to however truly find one i really click with and stick with it for years to come.  Just can’t decide

Mizuno MP18 SC. These are forgiving for their size. Soft feel. Amazing sound. Perfect trajectory. So fun to hit! Forged in Japan. They even feel good if you hit them a little thin. Sei Young Kim broke records with them. They won the women’s US Open in 2020. Probably won lots of mens events too. If I had a warehouse of every model of iron set in the world to chose from I would choose these for sure.

Still playing the Ping i3os irons I bought new when the first came out. I've tried many different irons, including other Ping irons and always end up with these back in bag.

This is a really intriguing question. I think for me the answer is that I haven’t found my forever irons, or ones that I’ll keep multiple years.

The best irons I’ve owned so far are my current AP2 714’s, but because they’re from 2014 I feel pressure to try to replace them with something else.

The irons I’m most interested in testing out to replace them are the Mizuno 223 or 225, or the Titleist T100s or T100.

The new Srixon ZX7 MK II’s are interesting as well since I had some success with the OG ZX7’s, but not sure the V-Sole was for me.

Maybe one of those could end up replacing the AP2’s and stick in the bag, or maybe the AP2’s will beat them out and end up as the irons I can keep in the bag multiple seasons. Only time will tell.

If you don't want to buy another set, then don't try the 223s...

Those will kick the AP2s out for good.

G400s.  Need an iron I can play when I'm old and want all the help I can get.

Those irons can be played well by any handicap.

I actually playing the MP 20 MMCs..essentially the same iron. I've hit the 223s and they're sweet, but no reason for me to change.

Try the 20s and save yourself some money..but either set is awesome

I don't know what Titleist did during the 714 era, but they certainly got it right.  714 MB are my favorite of the bunch and I played a set of 712 MB to the point of them being worn out.

Nice, good to know.

I just checked the Mizuno website and they’re out of stock of the Pro 223, so looks like that won’t be an option for a while anyways.

Yeah, agreed. Love the AP2 714, and my other favourite irons so far have been the ‘14 TM Tour Preferred MC/MB’s also.

I think the Nike VR Pro Combos came out in 2014 also right? Looks like it was an incredible year all-round for irons that year.

To add to this, the Srixon Z745’s came out in 2013-14 also, which many people think are Srixon’s best irons still to this day.

Was 2014 the best year for irons ever, or was there are better year for all-time great irons?

... I am always a little surprised how little Cobra Players Irons are mentioned on WRX. Loved my Z101's, 690 MB's, 762B's, MR23 US Spec, P770's, T100's, Z Forged and way too many more to list. But the Cobra Amp Forged were the best combination of all my previous irons combined and the MIM Tours are the best Players Irons Cobra has ever released. Head size is small enough for ultimate playability but large enough to add a little forgiveness. Topline and offset look like MB's at address Sith the best hosel grind ever. Feel is as good or better than any irons I have played when hit in the center. So yea, the best over all package iron I have played. If the cavity wasn't so K I N G in your face and it had Mizuno written on them I have little doubt they would be the #1 selling irons.

If i had to pick one iron to play it would be the 718cb. They replaced the mp64 that would have been the answer to this a few years ago. I still mess around with other irons like i210, apex pro, pxg T but always keep a second bag with the 718cb ready. I play most of my rounds with them. I should just sell the other sets. The size, feel, and performance is perfect.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record but I don't see anything beating the Haywood MB anytime soon. They look good and play amazing. I don't think my level of skill would ever surpass their ability, so they would never be a limiting factor in my game. I see no reason to play anything else at this point.

I truly developed a love for my Ping i210s. When I first got them, I was transitioning from p790s and worried that I wasn’t good enough to play the CBs. After a few rounds it all just clicked and the consistency and feel of the irons were not even comparable. Sure I’ll lose a half a club distance on mishits but it’s maybe once or twice a round and usually still enough to catch the green. I’d like to eventually upgrade to the i230s, but if I had to keep the i210s for life, I certainly would.
