great set, but fo rthem to be my everyday players I would need to roiund off that leading edge, I am an upright digger so once in a while i throw mud over the ball with them, alsways at teh absolute wrong time. I have 2 sets. I may grind teh hell out of my beater set to see if I can get that good rounded edge that I like

They’re awesome sticks for sure. I’m afraid of even regripping mine they’re working so well.  I as well have a spare set although they are in good shape.

"if you were a single digit handicap who hits irons pretty well. Comfortable hitting any club 5-PW from blade go CB.  What would you say is the best iron in terms of feel, performance, forgiveness etc.  the best overall package iron?"

There are lots of irons that perform for tour golfers and would work for you as well. Try and find a shaft you love and I think you'll be much closer to being satisfied.

cant believe you were even able to decipher that mess. LOL

what shafts to you have on them, I have the dyno silver stiff on one and can not hit them and a brunswick set on the other that are nice. I thought I would like the dynamic silver but I think there is too much torque on them or something becasue i push a slice out there with them and they are the only ones I do that with

Maxfli Rev B's without hesitation. Best set of irons I ever played. Could definitely live with those for life.

Also quite partial to my current set of Cleveland Launcher CBX irons. V-sole, cast Ping-like durability, great feel, GI but with a reasonable profile. I could play these until the end of my days as well.

I am really liking the PXG Gen 3 0311XP irons I picked up this summer and I am fine sticking with them until the end of my playing days.

Yes on the 0311 XP…I’ve got the Gen4 version and contemplating getting a backup set when my current set gets worn down.

True Temper S is all that’s on what’s left of the labels. Appear to be the stock shaft but man are they stout. 2 iron is a regular flex I have in the 17s. Can’t explain why but they flat out work!

While my favorite all-time irons (Z-101) have already been mentioned, I'd have to go with PING S-55. One of their iconic iron offerings with the aforementioned durability, would keep them in the bag into perpetuity.

Ive been wondering what my Z101's would be like with modern shafts (PX-LZ)

Cobra LTD-X - Tensei Blue AV 65
Mizuno ST190 - Kuro Kage tini
Cobra King F6 hybrid - Tensei CK Blue 80
Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4-GW - PX LZ
Callaway MD3 56*, 60*

Scotty Cameron Futura 5.5m

My Z-765/Z-965 Combo set. I'm getting them refinished this winter, and plan on playing them for the next 10 years. Picked them up in the spring for $225.

T100 or T100S with KBS Tour 120 for me, please. I need a firmer shaft now but I can play the 120’s without too much downside and they’ll keep me going well into the future. I reckon the T100 heads are the kind that I could use forever, too.

I like my Wilson Gooseneck irons but I picked up some Wilson Tour Blades from marketplace in great shape(basically a FG17) and think I could play them forever.

The challenge of playing them well would keep me interested in them especially the long irons. I would switch the shaft though , I am not that enthused about the Dynamic S they have in them now.

Apologies if this has been addressed, but why wouldn't you, if you found something perfect for you?  Touring Pros switch as often as they do because part of their job is to highlight new models while still winning.  (If winning suffers, they stay with a club, e.g., Henrik Stenson's famous 3W)

I am not a single-digit or scratch, but the only reason I switched irons was because I wanted some that ostensibly fit me.  I had thought my current set was that, but I am unsure.  (In my case, it's that I doubt I need an iron this upright, or a shaft this stiff, after a swing change)

Once 'fit' though, why change?  It's not the iron's fault you're a poor golfer; it's yours.

If you have to ask your not ready imho.
But you asked so here it goes.

“Players” are less about the club and more about the move. Golf is a game of consistency…so be consistent in your equipment.

For ME…Ping Eye 2.  Sweeter feeling than any of the blades and I’ve tried them all.  No stickers, weights, holograms etc to fall off. The loft jacking/hybrid pimping/wedge selling scam aside.  Play to a yardage and not to a iron number.

A hook is a hook and a slice is a slice.  The sooner you realize this isn’t about equipment but about the swing the sooner you will improve.

You have to look beyond tour players. They are a playin…what is a payin if you catch my drift

Been playing the same set of blades for about 15 years. Full disclosure, I am finally thinking about a new set. But I'd be good to continue gaming them for 15 years more. And if I do buy a new set, I'll very likely keep them in play for 15-20 years. If not longer.

Frankly, not being able to stick with a set for even a season is probably doing you more harm than good. Even like sets will have some level of adjustment period. I'd venture to guess many pros wouldn't even "upgrade" every year if it weren't for their contracts. You see many who move to the Champions or other tours gaming "old" models.

As for the original question. I'd probably go with something that'd offer a little more forgiveness. Low single-digit now, but I'd have to plan for age catching up at some point.
