Headweight is the whole reason I've been trying to get this thread off the ground

You've got to factor in that Ping has a lighter adaptor and tends to use heavier removable weights into the equation, as that defines the ability to achieve similar weights to other brands. So for instance the one contributor so far to 430 max head-weight measured 180g with no weights and it coming as 199g including the 19g weight. Throw in 4g for the adapter and that's 203g. Separate feedback is target weight for TSR2 / 3 are around 187g mark without weights, the adapter is about 4g heavier so the stock weight of 9g takes it to the same ballpark.

Understood. I have a TSR with a VR 60TX tipped 1” playing at 45.75”. The 430 was suited with a Kai’li blue 60TX tipped 1” playing at 45.75”. The difference in head weight is unreal. The 430 is a sledge hammer and I lost 5 mph club head speed. I’ve ordered a 14g weight for the ping to see if it helps. Someone commented that the normal LST head weight is 208. That’s closer to a fairway wood than competitors driver. Too heavy for me

Ping quote 206g for the max and 208g for the LST on their website. They have a habit of doing things "their way" like having the weight of the cut not raw shaft. So not certain if that might include 4g for the adapter, to date I've heard of a Max at 199g and LST at 205g both without adaptor. All additional feedback appreciated, I'm still using a G410 at 199g without adapter.

One thing I've noticed also is that it might depend on swing weight. My previous 425 LST was 206g without the adapter and came with the 17 gram weight. I cracked the face and received a replacement, still with the 17 gram weight but this one weighed in at 200. When I called Ping, they told me they had melted the additional 6g to reach my swingweight, but did not do it on the replacement head 🤦‍♂️

Is the heavy head weight all predicated on the ping counterbalanced shaft? Deviate from that shaft and you may run into swing weight issues?

It may be partially compensated for by club length.

For example, if you order the Max with Alta CB, you get 45.75" @ D3. If you order with Tour 2.0 Chrome, you get 45.25" @ D3. I wonder if there is other trickery since the Alta CB is a heavily counterbalanced shaft.

Does anyone find the new version of the Ping Tour Chrome shaft a lot smoother/softer than the prior generation?

If you go look at the specs of the shafts in G430 fairway woods you’ll notice there’s a difference in the weights of the same shafts driver to fairway wood, like 5 grams plus in the Ping shafts

Woo hoo!!! Just got my shipping notification. Sign up for a FedEx acct., enter your address, it should pop up if you preordered. Looks like label was created, boxed up and date looks to be 1/26. I’m local to Ping so I’m guessing it will be here the day of the release.

G430 Max 10.5 with HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX 60 6.5 flex. Ordered standard specs. For those wondering, the HZRDUS shaft is real (Hexcel-Hextow) and not “made-for”.

@Pleasedwith3putts here are some specs:

Headweight without rear tungsten = 178g

Rear tungsten = 25g

Total weight with tungsten = 203g

I've seen a couple of reviews now suggesting higher spin with 430 Max than 425. Might be because of heavier weight at the back as part of adding even more forgiveness

The G430 Max back weight is actually 1g less than the G425 Max (25g vs. 26g). I'd say the extra spin has to do with the new spinsistancy face curvature and the reviewer's strike location.

Yes, correct amount of spin is more important than low spin. I like Rocco Mediate’s opinion on this.

This driver is good. REALLY good!  Played a round today with my G430Max, Ventus Red 6x @44.75” D3.
Currently playing to 8 hdcp so not finding center of face as much as I’d like, here’s my initial comparison to my G425Max.

SOUND: Way better and I mean WAY better. My G425Max was hotmelted (about 5 grams) and I thought it sounded pretty good but the G430 still sounds so much better. My regular playing partner even commented on how good it sounded.

SPIN:  Without launch monitor I can’t tell you specifically how much, but the G430 is definitely higher spin for me.  A good thing for me cuz I’m a low-spin player and sometimes my miss with G425 was too low spin and fell out of air too quickly. Didn’t have that problem with G430.

FORGIVENESS:  Due to a bit higher spin, G430 felt more forgiving. Kept spin up nicely on off center hits. I think I pulled driver on 9 holes today and only missed 2 fairways and those misses were not by much.

Although both my G425 and G430 heads weighs exactly 203 grams without adapter, the G430 felt easier to swing and faster. Maybe the turbulators are more aerodynamic this year 😀

I think Ping has a winner with the G430. Gonna have a hard time resisting upgrading my G425 FW and hybrid next.

You *added* 5g to that sledgehammer? What did you do to manage swingweight?

Most folks order a lighter back weight then add hotmelt so you don’t make it a sledgehammer.
