Tour Ping G430 LST and Max drivers, G430 Max fairway wood & G430 hybrid – 2022 Shriners Children's Open

I ended up replacing a SIM Max Driver, epic 3 wood and SIM hybrid with all ping G430 woods this year. Went with the 9 degree max driver, 3 wood and then 7 wood. The G430s just make the game easier with the longer clubs. So nice not having to try everything I can to stop a hybrid from hooking or trying to launch a 3 wood off the deck or worry about all the spin coming off a driver when off center. 
 

Can’t recommend the entire G430 driver and fairways enough. Ping - if you’re reading this I can be a walking billboard for you guys. Get me on staff!

G430 LST 10.5 with Diamana GT is really good. Today I had 2 shots that would usually be out of bounds duck hooks with my old set up (TSi3), end up in the left rough. Can’t overstate how big that is for scores. And the G430 max 3 wood is just nutty. Legit thinking about converting to Ping irons and wedges because the woods have been so good

Man I want to try the GT in the 430 10.5 LST but I just can’t get over how good the Tour Black 2.0 65x is. I love the GT 70x in my 425 7W tho!

Just put a Tensei 1K Orange in mine. Maiden voyage tomorrow. I’ve been driving it great with the stock Kai’li but just had to tinker.

Getting an orange 1k for my lst. Thinking that might be the ticket. The stock tour black 2.0 seems good and I’m driving it well but want to try this 1k out.

I also have the Kai'Li white and am considering a shaft change so interested in your thoughts. The 1k Blue has also just been released so looking forward to some reviews popping up soon

Had a great day driving it today. The 1K Orange is just a tighter shaft for sure. Doesn’t really feel stiffer just doesn’t have the same kick. I built mine with 1/2” longer and it swing weights the same as the Kai’li. Had to get used to not feeling the shaft move as much but once I did and found the good release point I hit some nice high bombs. Not really a Blue profile player in the driver so couldn’t comment on that shaft but this Orange is staying in the bag for sure.

Ventus Tr blue is a perfect pair with a slightly lighter weight in the max. Absolute fairway finding bombs

Put the 1k orange in and the swingweight at the same length is actually slightly heavier than it was with the tour 2.0 black. Any insight here? Lol

1k orange is like 1.5 points cb and the ping stuff is CB to account for their heavier headweights

To my knowledge, the Alta shafts are counterbalanced but the Tour Chrome and Black are not (although balance point may be adjusted for a CB-ish effect). 

 

RE: the woods themselves, still loving my 430 driver that replaced last years 425. 3wood is great, too, but I’m missing the 425s pancake head shape - the 430 is a bit more traditionally shaped and that’s not my preference. It’s also very long and competes with driver distance (3W goes ~92% driver distance)… I may pick up a 425 5W for options.

430 5w is an absolute bomber too, it's crazy long and easy to launch

I was told by Ping rep that unlike the original, the Tour 2.0 has a slight counterbalance but the standard build is still - 1/2" vs Alta CB.

If the original is based on the UST Chrome ...then it's slightly CB or less than the Alta CB

The Glide 4.0 wedges don’t get the respect they deserve…. Trust me.  They are fantastic.

What are counter balanced shafts?

Counterbalanced shafts move some weight of the shaft away from the tip and further up towards your hands. Getting into why someone would want this can be a little trickier - golfwrx has quite a few threads detailing the opinions and possible reasons why someone would want a shaft like this in a driver for instance.

Think about a see-saw.  If you put a shaft on a fulcrum, where is the balance point?  Is it closer to the tip or closer to the handle/butt?  The closer to the handle, the higher the balance point (higher balance point = more counter-balanced

Will see what I can find out from local folks (I’m about 3 miles from Ping HQ). 
 

RE: UST Chrome Elements… (again my understanding) yes the tour shafts were once based on (ie modified versions of) UST chrome, but Ping has been tweaking these for years. they aren’t the same shaft.

I ended up with a G430 Max after trying every single driver in my fitting session. It was an easy choice. It was so good that I called to schedule another session to do fairway woods.  He said he could book the fitting....or just cut to the chase because the fairway wood was a no brainer if if I loved the driver.  Got it ordered with the same shaft and should have it next week.

It's an incredible line. I put the LST driver in play today bc I'm a psychopath and my goodness, what a driver head that is.

Haven't read through everything here, but was just wondering, is anyone finding the 430 max 3w to be pretty draw biased?  Maybe it's me but I'm have having a hard time keeping this thing right.  Long AF, and feels great but I cant seem to keep this thing from turning over on me.  I had it on the small - but going to go big - now... I do not like it in the flat setting, woods like that just dont suit my eye.... trying everything I can to keep this thing in the bag.
