Black T100/T200 Spotted

Recommended Posts

I have had black vokeys for years and like the worn look that rides up the face 🤷🏻‍♂️ its kind of like a visible wear spot that inspires confidence

The problem is that the irons use a different finish/process than the wedges. I agree that the black wedges have worn well for me but the irons have all looked terrible after regular play. I echo what @TigerInTheWoods said - the cobras wear really well. I can also vouch for the PXG finish as mine have worn very well. I believe they use the same DCB as the Cobras.

Does anyone know when these would be likely to release?

Would they likely be a limited release where you've got to act fast, or are they likely to be somewhat easy to get?

Been considering T100s for a bit, maybe time to get fit so I have an order ready for when these come out.

Callaway Mavrik Max 10.5* Driver
TaylorMade 2007 Burner 18* Fairway Wood
Titleist 816H1 23* Hybrid
Callaway Apex 19 Smoke Irons 5-PW
Callaway MD5 Jaws Wedges 50* 54* 58*
Callaway PM Grind 19 64* Wedge
Titleist Scotty Cameron California Series Fastback

Finish looks like trash. They'll be scratched up after one range session.

Why would someone pay $200+ an iron for this finish when they can send gamed T100S out to many different finishers for Black n-Eleven for $75/head? Titleist going for the cash grab this late in the T100S cycle.

Titleist TSR3 (8*) w/ AD-DI 6x

Titleist TSi3 (15*) w/ AD-DI 8x

Titleist TSR3 (19*) w/ AD-DI Hybird 85x

Titleist TS3 (21*) w/ AD-DI Hybrid 85x

Sounds like they should lose money if it’s such a bad idea as you say it is.

In my opinion, making a cosmetic change to an iron three quarters the way through its life cycle is a bit of a cash grab. Titleist could easily wait the six months and offer the newest iron in a black finish for an upcharge. Instead, golfers are stuck shelling out full retail on a set that is about to be replaced and discounted in the fall if they want the black finish they see someone like Cameron Smith using. It totally defeats the purpose of a two year cycle and is quite obviously a strategic move to sell sets of an outgoing iron in a non-release year.

With that said, I think the irons look great and I'd play them. They are certainly worth the money. I just wish the black finish could be available at release so that a player could enjoy the entire life cycle with the finish of their choice and I would be more than happy to pay an upgrade for the black option at launch.

Always on board with Titleist...but this one is tough.  Just offer the black as an option going forward.  Anything else comes across, exactly as you described, a cash grab.

anyone is allowed to feel the way they feel about this, but I have trouble with that idea. The current T100 will continue to be a great and beautiful iron even if they release a new version, which won’t be materially different and may not look as nice. My current set is 2019 apex pros and when the 2021 apex pro came out, my set was still better looking - there’s an iron that looked great in black.

I can understand the cash grab perspective but certainly don’t feel they owe it to me to offer the black upon release.

I’m sure there is only so much capacity and supply chain resources that can be allocated when the iron is initially released and having to offer a black finish is asking them to take a risk before knowing how well received the product will be (and demand).

I also know there are opinions on the differences between Titleist and Taylormade and their product release cycles - but it’s no different than the P7MC Raw release that just happened before the refresh. Some might view it as a collectors or special opportunity to get an extra set on an iron they know they love.

I will continue to hope they offer either T100 pr T100S in the black left handed 😜

And it is only a cash grab if I purchase them; which I will not. So not much of a cash grab. Those that want black irons will always wait for this mid-release. Those that do not want black irons, this release affects nothing. The percentage of players that want to play black irons probably stays the same regardless of when in the iron cycle they release them.

It really seems like a way to not burden production and to even our revenue over a time period. When they are releasing the chrome version, they have all finish machines humming and producing only chrome. Once that cycle dies down then they have the time and bandwidth to now produce a black finish.

Just gave Titleist a call hoping I could squeeze some info out of them, but no real luck. The guy I spoke to was kind of playing it clever, basically saying that he "wasn't allowed to confirm their existence," but obviously conceded they were coming. However, he wouldn't share a release timeline or whether or not they'd be limited release (i.e., hard to get) in any way.

He said that I should keep an eye on their social media pages "in the next couple of months" ... frustrating, because I'm kinda trying to figure out what I want to do with my irons now.

Besides that, aren't the 2023 T100s theoretically coming soon? Would they really release black 2021 T100s right before 2023 regular T100s? Hm.

I believe it'll be a late summer/fall release, with fittings/orders going out fall/winter. If I remember correctly, we should see glimpses during US Open.

The black iron versions of the 2019 model were released the same year, some months prior to the current model... I don't think the 2019 black models were a crazy hit because the current model was such a good hit.

I can only speak to one set of black irons - Cleveland CG7 Tours - but one should buy black irons with an anticipation that the finish will wear.

In fact, they get better the more wear you put on them, typically. Over time, they tend to look like raw irons without the rust.

Super cool look, IMHO.

Didn’t realize the NLU guys are pros

They are pros, just not at golf.  Nothing says Titleist only has to sponsor pro golfers.  Easy marketing play.  Give these guys some cash and a few sets of clubs with some access to Titleist staffers for media content, easy decision.  They literally receive hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and with their podcast.

More likely to be blacked out AMT

How does that shaft compare to the KBS $ Taper?  I don't think Titleist offers the $ Taper in black which I prefer.

I think the $ Taper is a fairly smooth shaft, as is AMT and DG. AMT is just different due to weight progression from top to bottom irons.

Unsure if any OEM offers $ Taper Black PVD shafts, kind of like DG Onyx shafts... I think most ppl buy it on their own and get them re-shafted. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!
