The pelting rain and a nearly 3½ hour weather delay in Singapore couldn't stop Danielle Kang from storming up the leaderboard Friday, jumping from T-29 to take the lead at the HSBC Women's World Championship. The six-time LPGA Tour winner tied a career-best bogey-free 63 with a staunch performance from the newest weapon in her bag: 25 putts by a one-of-a-kind putter stamped “DK Special” built by Scotty Cameron himself.

 

“It was really cool,” Kang said of making her putter, “because I had an idea, then Mr. Scotty Cameron sketched it out, and then all of a sudden my thoughts became real. He molded them, and then we spent hours, and I think it took days for him to make these molds.

 

“And then I was with him for seven hours straight, grinding them, making it, buffering, lie lofting. It was incredible for me to watch. And I absolutely love that putter.”

Meh at that. I wouldn't want to come up with a putter in my head and see his childish sketch work become a design he already came up with. If kang said she just wanted a larger m3 I'd understand, but media blew this way out of context just like they always do best.

I was just being silly and making a joke. I respect you being able to feel however you want about it 😇
Do we know she didn’t just ask for a larger/slightly modified m3??? Maybe Scotty just loves sketching?! ✍️ 😜
If you look at the sketch on the bottom left of this photo ⬇️ Looks like he was inspired by the X5 and rounded off the back… Or maybe that was just for “dramatic effect” 😉 haha

No heat, Just backing up my previous post. 

 

Now if I got to hang out with him and he'd stamp a raw 009 or Timeless for me then I'd be just smitten. I like traditional designs so I wouldn't beable to create something off the top of my head. Maybe a larger 2.5 laguna "plus" with his famous stamps.

I believe putters only have to be within specific measurements like offset, size of head, loft less then 10 deg and other things like that. I don't think they need to be submitted like driver heads.

Is it a Golo, or a Del Mar? I'm no Scotty aficionado - so I honestly don't know. 

 

Either way, got some junk in the trunk to even out weight distribution. Wondering what the closure rate on that sucker is.

It’s definitely maybe a modified X5. Sketches don’t lie! Haha. So when all is said and done it’s a D Kang one off proto, inspired by something (I mean let’s be honest, not like there is a ton of original putter designs left out there. They all kinda inspired by something) Either way it’s a super cool experience for D and I’m not gonna be guy that’s negative about someone’s positive experience 😊

And I hope it doesn’t feel like I’m attacking your post. I’m sorta just riffing in general.

Looking at those sketches, I can see where the "modified X5" comment is coming from...

 

But with that flow-neck - it just screams Del Mar, Golo 3, Oddy #9, etc., etc., etc. Seems like one of those models would be a more obvious choice as a starting point for the D. Kang custom.

 

But, perhaps there is some kind of magic to be found in the Frankenstein amalgamation of the Del Mar/Golo 3/Oddy 9 flow neck with the modified X5 head. Who knows? I mean, stability of the X5 with some significant toe hang? Maybe I'm way off base?

 

The reason why I'm particularly intrigued is because I'm thinking about face-closure rates on mallets these days. I don't get along with blade putters, but feel like I need a mallet with a bit of toe hang on it. Face balanced models get funky for me over time. I don't think they fit my "natural" tendencies. So, something in the middle seems perfect.

 

As a result, the D. Kang putter is attractive (in my psychotic mind) 😋.

To me it looks like a combo of the Del Mar and GOLO with a solid cavity. With perhaps the head size of the X5???

Yeah, I looked at it initially and said - "it's a Del Mar with a filled in cavity."

 

That must impact weight distribution and hence toe hand/closure rates.

 

That's about as far as I got with it.

The way they made it sound was she designed a 1 off style head but looks like it's just an M3 like others have mentioned, maybe some small modifications but an M3 without M3 being stamped on it. 

 

Still nice, not one I'd play but still nice.

In @03trdblack's post, the first photo shows one slightly larger than the other. The one on the right definitely just looks to me like a riff on a GoLo M3 with the milled top. The one on the left looks to be more like a GoLo 5 shape (larger and rounder), again with the milled top and this time heel-shafted. Scotty, just like Taco Bell, pretty much just makes new items out of the ingredients he has at hand, but this seems to be a combo we haven't seen before.
