An ok charity match at best.  Laughter seemed a bit fabricated...  Players appeared like they really didn't want to be there...  JMO

Matches are a joke.  Watched the Match last night.  Golf wasn't that interesting, except Rory's drives were showcased.  Each mic'd, yet chat was minimal.  The announcers in the booth, like C. Barkley, at times, overshadowed the players.  And that overweight DJ Khaled, was ridiculous.

You're more than likely right. 

 

The funny thing is most of the youngsters they were pandering to, including the galleries, probably don't have the money to support golf, and charities.  I am sure that Rory's friend who donated 500k wasn't a DJ Khaled disciple.

I think playing the entire event under the lights was a miss. I think the golf itself would be better in daylight. 

 

What would *really* improve the event is taping it beforehand and editing it to a tight 2 hours.

Probably not an issue for most. About half of the Showdown at Sherwood, etc., events were under the lights, as was the recent Good Good event. Might even be a way to start showing some golf from other parts of the world at hours that will get views from TV golf's main audience.

I was aware of the purpose behind the opening of that course before the telecast.  The disconnect was the age the broadcast pandered to was more like young adults that follow DJ Khaled, and like Barkley, they were talkers; while promoting gambling.  There were very few actual youngsters in the gallery, and probably even less watching it on night TV or gambling.

It would have been cool to have a few holes played during super twilight and finish in the dark under the lights.  Sunsets in Florida give off some incredible light conditions this time of year.  I think there was an older skins game Battle at Bighorn like this?

 

This event really highlighted how Rory’s driver is such an immense weapon.  Max is a world class player and he still seems in awe of Rory off the tee.  It’s just shocking to me Rory only has 4 majors and hasn’t won one in ten years.  I mean I kind of understand why but his advantage off the tee and talent level just make it hard to fully grasp.

Circle of life.  Whether we like it or not, the future is the future.  I see a lot of college age people out playing which is good for the future of golf.  I don’t know how many of the younger generation is watching though and professional golf needs to do something to get them watching and to ensure they are watching for many years.

The Match is certainly not the way to do it. Especially when it's on streaming. There's a dozen "matches" uploaded to YouTube every week that are a quarter the length and better content. Bryson has a match series on YouTube he does occasionally and the one with Phil was good stuff. I don't see many more of these happening, not many people want to watch mediocre golf on a random Monday. They should've stopped it after the first one.

Might help if they fixed their ad strategy. Only notice I caught of it was here a day after the fact. Didn't see a single anything about the last event with Curry either.

Yeah,  I remember seeing only one ad about it that week and went "hey cool, sounds fun" then ran into it by accident the evening of since the YouTubeTV app pushed it to my homepage when I fired up the TV.    I watched about an hour or so of it off and on and it was fun enough and the golfers all had good attitudes and played along with the goofiness.    I agree with the poster that suggested a 60 minute edited version and maybe having them start play a bit earlier where they finish the last 2 holes or something under the lights with some extra side challenges thrown in.

I would have watched, but had no clue when it was on until the day after! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Exceptionally strange how bad the advertising has been for this since the OG Tiger vs Phil game in Nevada. Everyone knew when that was happening and they even had fun promos with both of them talking trash as a lead up. Played a round at a family member's club then watched on one of the big screens in the bar. Place was packed. 

 

Obviously part of that was the match up, but everyone actually knew it was happening. No idea how they've gotten worse and worse by the event in terms of getting the word out.
