Haven't really watched one since the Phil/Brady vs Tiger/Manning one. Did catch a few minutes of the last one with Tiger, Rory, JT, and Speith, but it didn't hold my interest for more than about 15 minutes.

 

It seems like each one gets less and less interesting. Now that they aren't even involving pros anymore I'm out.

Unless you do something at an architecturally significant course that doesn't get shown on TV often or at all (eg Seminole) or you have a unique format (Skins, Stableford, match play) with pro players of significance (Tiger, Phil) going head to head with true celebrity golfers (Brady, etc.), I doubt I will be interested.

 

These guys above have that event at Lake Tahoe (?) they show where they throw footballs to the drunks in the boats.

I'm sure it's great from a PR standpoint. Famous people on TV with a lot of money going to charity. Really helps with the public image.

Not into this so much.  I enjoyed the Payne's Valley Cup they did back in 2020 with Tiger and JT vs. Rory and Justin Rose.  I think making that a regular thing where you do 2 American golfers vs 2 Europeans one year and whomever wins takes on 2 International while the loser waits to face the winner of that match the following year and so on would be better.

If the goal was to get a small audience of fanatic golf fans to watch they've failed. If the golf fanatic is your target audience then anything you do wont be enough to get the views needed to keep going without certain players. So i commend them for trying to get non-wrxers to watch ;}

I guess we'll see. As I read your statement, the goal is to grow the audience of a sport that already has limited interest by showing a pair of lesser-capable golfers to compete against each other. I have a hard time seeing how that creates excitement. Next the NFL should have a pay-per-view event of LIV golfers facing off against Scheffler, Rory, Rahm, Cantlay, etc. It would surely draw billions!

Usually, but they did one with Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes and Josh Allen. And the previous one with Steph was a little screwy b/c only one of the two teams had a pro--I think it was Phil and Barkley vs. Manning and Steph. 

 

As it stands, I'll probably DVR it and give it a shot.

i dont think any thing they do without certain players will actually move the needle.

IIRC the PGA Tour owns some of the rights to The Match golf series.
