Rose has been solid so far. Shes never been lauded as a Lydia Ko type prospect.  A win and 2 top 10s in majors in her abridged rookie season is a fine start to her promising career. 

 

The media definitely hyped her up as the female Tiger, but that was never going to be the case. Wins in college mean little when her peers have already been winning at the professional level worldwide before jumping to the LPGA.

Definitely quite hyped. I'm not sure she hits it far enough to be a big star long term.. But a certainly solid start.

Yes the timing of this event is not good for the LPGA as they are the midst of an Asian swing during these dates - Lexi played poorly last year so she did not qualify for those events and Rose was said to be taking that time off for her classes at Stanford. But I guess she will squeeze in a weekend for golf! 

 

People appear to like Homas personality quite I bit (I don't know, I don't use Twitter) so I guess they hope it translates well to this format.

Rose Zhang is 21 in the world. Lexi is 35 in the world. Neither are close to being duds. Did you see how the LPGA players beat the celebrity amateurs at the Hilton Champions Tournament? The top 5 LPGA players beat the top 5 celebrity amateurs by about 5 strokes a round (20 strokes for the week). Same tees.

Homa is the #7 ranked player in the world! Who would you choose? Of the guys ranked above him, Rory's playing, Scheffler/Cantlay/Xander are exceedingly dull, and Rahm is currently persona non grata. Hovland is the only golfer better than Max that has some personality. 

 

Are you simply hoping for some manufactured LIV drama? Cause that's a hard pass from me. I don't need to see Rory and Brooks or Rory and DJ, pretending there's beef. 

 

I'm far more disappointed w/ the female participants. I like Rose but she's just too nice to bring any edge to this event. Lexi's personality boils down to posting gym pics on Instagram and giving gruff answers at press conference. She's no longer good enough to act like a uber fit Greg Popovich. There are far more interesting options starting w/ Charley Hull.

Hull for sure.  Apparently many of the ladies will be in Asia at this time though so, it looks like they had limited options. Lexi's history merits selection and she can bomb it.

 

Homa is fine.  His major record is abysmal by I probably have unrealistic expectations for this just given its history. 

 

It probably be more entertaining if they did this on someone's YT channel.  The whole faux drama and overproduction TV will subject us to will probably ruin it.

Yup - a dud.  Has 14 (15?) LPGA starts and is 21 in the Rolex Rankings.  Some dud.  🤦‍♂️

This isn't a major though, so you've got that going for you.

Homa is perfect for an event like this - a very marketable, legitimately funny and likeable, top 10 player in the world.  

Judging by your quotes in this thread, it's just not the kind of event you're likely to enjoy.  I personally like that they keep trotting out slightly different variations of "The Match".  Some are good and some are less good, but it's a good way to see these guys and gals away from a more buttoned up Tour event.   Best not to try and make it more than it is - it might even be an enjoyable watch.

Hull would have been lit. Still, gives a chance for Zhang to flash a little more personality than she maybe gets to drop during regular events. Homa's pretty well liked and more of what makes for that should show up. Rory & Thompson should both be good energy. 

 

I like the shared tees on Par 3s, the pressure will be on for everyone to perform. The host array is whatever, though I think Barley will bring out a crop of good commentary as he always does.

I like that Chuck is no BS. But gotta say I was pretty appalled by some behavior I witnessed him exhibit. TNT was broadcasting from the plaza at the Chase Center for the playoffs and a lot of the fans were heckling Chuck (he’s a notorious Warriors fans hater) so it was to be expected. The crowd wasn’t saying anything crazy. It was mostly a “Chuck you suck” chant. For some reason he zeroed in on this group of 3 guys that looked to be in their late teens. He comes to the back railing and yells at them “you better shut the blank up or I’m gonna go to y’all’s houses and blank ur mamas”. I was like, did he really just say that?! He looked legit pissed and it looked like he was looking around the set for something to throw at them. The other hosts had to come over and physically pull him away. It was pretty surreal. I was honestly really surprised TNT didn’t suspend him. Apologize for the long winded post. It’s just all I can think about now when I see him/hear his name.
