Waterproof golf shoes...

Recommended Posts

So I've got 3 pairs of golf shoes

- PUMA Men's PROADAPT ALPHACAT Waterproof

- Mizuno WAVE HAZARD BOA

- Men's UA HOVR™ Tour Spikeless Wide

Whilst these are decent shoes to wear the Puma's are the closes thing to waterproof. I'm sure they were but now I've worn them quite a bit I think the water is getting through. The Mizuno and Under Armour shoes claim to be waterproof but my shower is more waterproof then those. I've even actually tried to get a warranty on my Mizuno's they didn't last 5 months.

So I'm obviously doing something wrong. So I wanted to ask can people suggest a good waterproof shoe? I haven't got my head buried in the sand and I do expect to somewhat get my feet a little wet after a round but not after the 1st couple of holes. Price range would be up to £200.

Thanks In advance!

The 2 types of shoes I have in rotation are FJ pro sl and adidas code chaos, both waterproof.

Do you think your shoes are leaking? or is there a chance the type of socks you are wearing are contributing to your feet sweating leading you to think your shoes are leaking?

I'm pretty sure my shoes are leaking more so when I get drenched after the 1st couple of holes.

I had my eye on the FJ's you mentioned as well as the FJ Fuel but wanted to come on here to see what people think.

To add I'm from the UK and tend to play early mornings when the dew is about and will play when its raining.

If you want something that is really going to be waterproof, shoes with a Gore-Tex membrane are going to be your best bet.  It's not perfect, some times your feet will sweat more because the shoes aren't as breathable as those with other linings, but it works better and lasts longer.

Unfortunately, there are very few manufacturers that still use Gore-Tex compared to years past.  Adidas does occasionally, but usually only in their winter golf boot.  Under Armour normally has Gore-Tex models in their lineup (Spieth line, HOVR GTX) but they don't seem to have any currently.  The only two that I know of who make them right now are Ecco who has multiple models (C4, H4 and S3) or NoBull.

I had several pairs of the FJ pro sl and have had no problems. I currently have a pair of the FJ pro sl sports and haven't tried them out in wet conditions yet.

I've worn ProSL's for a few years and they are pretty durable.  my FJ traditions keep my feet bone dry.

the best pair of waterproofs I've purchased were Adipower bounce. I keep them to the side for very wet or cold weather.  great grip with nice support.

they must be five years old and are as reliable today as when new.  every year they get new insoles.

I have a pair of Footjoy Fuel and they are the most waterproof shoe I've ever had. Our course has been absolutely drenched this year and they keep my feet bone dry. The only knock on them is that they are not very breathable, so in the summer they can be too warm.

I've had multiple pairs of Goretex Eccos over the years and they are also excellent waterproof shoes, but I did find the lower profile of the shoe made it easier for water to get directly on my socks and then seep down into the shoe. I haven't found that to be the case with the FJs.

Whenever I get a new pair of golf shoes I always give them a couple coats of Mink Oil before taking them to the course. I've mostly worn the top model Footjoy shoes which are good at staying dry; this practice is just extra insurance.  Done this for years with good results.

I like my Cole Haan golf shoes.  The course I play has standing water on the fairway of the first hole.  Which means that I can hit it to a large wet area, retrieve my ball, and move it to a dry part of the 1st or 8th fairways on either side of the standing water.  I wear Swiftwick socks and have never had an uncomfortable round due to wet feet.

Footjoy traditions or really any Footjoy waterproof shoes covered by their 2 year warranty are awesome. Footjoy has the best customer service. I have had multiple pairs warrantied whether it be the BOA or waterproofing failing, Footjoy has been top notch. The hyperflex is the only shoe I had difficulty with staying waterproof but every other FJ shoe I have is really top quality.

I spray mine with some waterproofing spray, then mink oil, then I use Sno-Seal which is basically bee's wax.

Depending on how wet it's going to be, I'll go for my Ecco Gore-Tex shoes first if it's really wet but I've never had a wet foot problem.

Footjoy Storm Walker are the best I've had.  I've also had Oregon Mudders but they just don't support me well in the swing.

The next Storm Walkers I get will be the XT model that zips up.

I've had success this year with my Cuater Ringers and Legends, but I haven't played in downpours or anything crazy just some rain and heavily saturated grounds.

Anything leather you can waterproof or water resistant with Dubbin Wax, Mink Oil or Neatsfoot oil. Just be aware that some of these can change the color of your shoes. So your all white FJ Premiers may get a brown/tan tinge if you buy cheap stuff.

I walked for years, and still play mostly early mornings, so a lot of dew. The only, and mean only brand of shoe I've even had actually remain waterproof are Ecco's. Prefer FJ's when it comes to fit and finish, but if dryness is the most important, then Ecco's are the only way to go.

I actually typically wear footjoys but when its rainy an a little muddy I find myself reaching for my adidas ZG23. The entire upper has a synthetic almost rubberized coating which keeps my feet dry in wet weather but also helps them clean up fairly well after. I would say their waterproofness does come a bit at the expense of running a little hot if worn on super hot days, but sounds like you have other options to cover those.

would like to say I appreciate all the replies to this thread and want to give a little update on my shoes that I bought.

I've been out weather this month from hammering down rain to wet dewy mornings to very muddy mucky days and a bit of frost. These shoes have been great. If they hold up and continue to do this I probably won't buy another brand. This particular shoe is super easy to clean as well which is great.
