Cycling and fishing. Indoor riding on a Wahoo Kickr bike using Fulgaz. Outdoors riding one of my 3 bikes. Trek Police 8000 mountain bike, Specialized Tarmac road bike, or Orbea Gain gravel bike. 

 

Fishing from my dock or my canoe.

My other serious hobby is photography. I have small cameras for travelling light and a larger setup with several high end lenses.

Collecting and playing bass guitars is my other interest, although I haven't really played much since I've been on the road. I have 20 bass guitars in my collection. My pride and joy is a Fender Custom Shop '57 Precision reissue in sunburst. My '74 Fender Jazz is the most valuable in the collection. The one I've had the longest is my '84 Steinberger L2. Bought it new in 1984.

I play guitar quite a bit, used to be in bands in my younger years. I just play for myself now. I have a half dozen electrics, most in storage, couple of acoustics and a classical or two.

Also collect music- cd's, cassettes and vinyl. Listen to my system daily. I collect old tennis racquets that I used when I was an avid tournament player many years ago. 

Just retired so more collecting is in my future.

I live in Minnesota (State of Hockey) so naturally I play in a couple of beer leagues in the winter months.

fishing for tarpon and only tarpon (used to run a charter)

I used to LOVE fishing but I can’t find time for it now. If the weather is good enough for me to fish I’m going to play golf every day and twice on Sunday. Had to give up messing around with older cars too, my body won’t allow it any more. 
 

Love cooking, all types. My 16 year old son is a budding chef, am encouraging him to pursue as a career. 
 

I read a lot, when time permits. All nonfiction, mostly bios and histories.

 

Youth sports is a passion, and I spend a lot of time in wrestling rooms, gyms, and on soccer pitches, though I think we may be just about done with soccer.

Lately, my main hobby seems to be getting the hell beat out of me by two of the grandsons with styrofoam swords. The 3 year year old takes a wicked cut (need to translate it to a golf club, the weight transfer is really good😀) and he kind of sneaks up on you when your not prepared to defend yourself. And now the older one is getting pretty good with the nerf gun, he’s starting to hit what he’s aiming at. The basement is getting to be a dangerous place for this old guy!

On a more serious note to the topic at hand, I used to have fun cars as a hobby. When we sold our house to move to an apartment, I lost my garage, and had nowhere to work on the car anymore. With a nagging electrical issue that I had nowhere to tear into the car to trace, I sold it. I do love working on cars and building/fixing stuff, I just have nowhere to do it now. I have a 10x30 RV storage room where my work bench and all of my tools are, but it is a 45 minute drive to get to and I only have a 120v bulb socket adapter for a power supply. I've started tearing apart and rebuilding golf clubs again in my apartment just to give me something to do, lol. 

 

I also used to play guitar back in high school. But that was nearly 30 years ago and I don't even know if I still have my guitar (I think I sold it in my garage sale when we moved). I thought about dragging it back out if I have it, but would essentially be starting over from scratch learning how to play. 

 

I do have a habit of getting heavy into fishing every few years, then I get busy and next thing I know it's been 5 years. I have a fishing kayak that is in my buddy's garage, but again, it is a 45 minute drive to get to it, then I have to drive to the launch. 

 

The more I type, the more I'm realizing that as much as I love living in the middle of all of the restaurants and bars in Midtown Houston, and having no financial or maintenance responsibility to our apartment aside from rent, I miss having a house near the water, lol.

I have always wanted to fly fish, but just never have tried. I’ve fished all my life. I live in the gulf coast and do a ton of inshore saltwater fishing, and a lot of freshwater lakes. Fly fishing isn’t really big here but there are people that fly fish for redfish in saltwater. When my dad passed and I was cleaning out his storage room, I found a fly rod/reel in a case still wrapped in plastic. I think it’s in my storage room collecting dust. I moved further away from fishing and live in the middle of downtown houston now, so learning how will have to wait for the time being.
