This isn't a thread about TM, Foremost, Callaway, Bridgestone, Srixon, or any DTC company.  It's a thread about the new AVX.  I don't care what those other companies are doing, as I don't buy their products.

The Tour Speed had an injection molded TPU cover, just like the ball it was based on, the EXP-01.  Titleist is passing off a rebadged Tour Speed as the new AVX, with a bunch of marketing-speak about the cores and the dimples.  If folks want to pay $50 for a $37 ball, then more power to them.  I won't be.

I am sure that Acushnet will be devastated.

The AVX aren't officially out in the US until the 24th.  I've tried to look online for reviews, but as of yesterday, nothing that really gave any good insight.  Based on Titleist's info, the ball should give faster ball speeds and have more short game spin.  But, as you can see from this thread, there is some concern that the new cover formulation will result in a less durable cover.  I plan on testing them out as soon as I can, but given the weather forecast, I have no idea when I'll be able to get them on course under reasonable conditions.

I sure hope you are correct about the left dot.

If you look back through some of the other threads related to AVX, tsecor has been predicting for at least two years that an inside source told them the AVX is going to disappear soon and the left dot will be coming to retail to take its place...

For what it is worth, a week or so ago I talked to a manager at a golf store about the left dot and he said their Titleist rep said the only way to get the left dot for the foreseeable future is either to be on tour, or know someone at a golf shop/course that has a premier account.  I don't know the guy terribly well, so I don't know how reliable his info is, but any time I've asked someone that should know, they all say that Titleist doesn't have any plans to bring the left dot to retail.  Of course, Titleist has always been good about keeping things pretty quiet, so who knows what will happen.  I'd guess if we don't see the left dot at the PGA Show next week, we won't see it for 2024.

Love the AVX and definitely will be giving this one a shot. If you are interested in the new one all I will say is this - try them for yourself, dont listen to any "experts" on here or otherwise. No one knows your game or what you are going to like.

FWIW I have played Titleists for the last several years and never paid $50 a dozen for their balls, they have buy 3.get 4 deals every spring.

The big OEMs generally aren’t exposing new product to local sales reps that far ahead of the retail launch, so I would take what they say with a grain of salt (many times we will see spy or conforming list pics before the reps see the product).

I remember running into a local Titleist rep during the week of the 2018 PGA Show and he hadn’t seen the new SM7 wedges that were revealed that week (he said his DM was at the show and would be bringing him samples the following week).

Also, they could simply do a run of the existing left dot from 2021 sometime this year (they are still making them for a few staffers) which I would expect to be announced or revealed at the PGA Show since it isn’t a new product, but given the changes that they made to the 2023 Pro V1, I wouldn’t expect this until the 2025 launch.

My head pro is a long-time Titleist guy and usually is in the know of new releases.  He got one dozen left dots last year to test, then couldn't get anymore.  He'll be at the PGA show, hopefully comes back with some news on that front.

As for the AVX, it outsells the left dash by a bunch in our pro shop.  I hope they didn't change it too much.

anxious to see prior gen AVX and 2024 AVX comparison....

I've got a cold weather scramble coming up in a week.  If I get a chance, I'll pick up a sleeve to test out, but given the weather and the likely mushy course conditions, I probably won't be able to say much about the performance.  What I'll be mostly interested in is whether or not the new cover formulation stands up to a round of golf as well as the 2022 AVX did.  Assuming no cart paths or the like, I could easily get through 18 holes or more with a single ball in good shape.  Hopefully the 2024 AVX will hold up as well.

The RCTs arent "offerings" - they are specifically for Trackman use.

Thats fewer offerings than Callaway or TM.

Plus it's a little disingenuous to call out versions of Pro V1 and Pro V1x with the enhanced alignment lines as different offerings.

Apparently it's not too confusing as Titleist makes all of its money selling golf balls and the Pro V1 is far and away the industry standard ball.

so is the 2024 gen , avx combined with tour speed specs?  just confusing

From what Titleist says, they appear to have been able to blend some aspects of the Tour Speed and AVX together to make a better AVX.  Still a soft, low spin, low flying ball, but the new cover should give it more short game spin.  Some people are concerned that the TPU cover on the Tour Speed wasn't as resilient as the cast cover on the 2022 AVX, so they're worried that using the TPU cover on the 2024 AVX won't go well.  I've still not seen any reviews of the ball from people that have actually played them.

@monks66 from the golf site that no one talks favorably about around here.

One notable change is that the new AVX has a TPU cover, while prior generations leveraged cast urethane. It will be interesting to see the extent to which golfers notice or care about the difference.

Of course there's a difference between TPU and cast urethane, and it's noticeable both visually and performance-wise.  If there were no difference then Titleist would use the cheaper TPU on the Pro V1 line of balls, which would increase its margins on its most profitable product.

I guess that's a sign that people that play the AVX only live in areas where the weather has been crap this week?
