I've been able to play that track quite a few times.  Not overly hard but a couple of tough holes.  #13 is a beast of a Par 5 with a challenging layup and #16 can hurt if you get greedy.  Other than that, fairly straight and pretty open.

Yes, he played the back first and then the front IIRC. His 3 putts for bird on his second 9 all burned edges, so he was not far from shooting zilch for a 65 total.

obviously this Open is another level entirely as one would expect, but Jon-O is not the sort you want to play for any sort of significant cash; a real deal baller.

The low amateur so far, Mark Strickland, moved to SoCal a while back and has been playing in most of our tournaments. He is ... very good at golf. Former pro who got his am status back. Guy can score. Tim Hogarth at +3 is an amateur legend, but he's been battling the yips the last couple years.

It's nice to see Matthew Goggin playing well. I thought that he had given up the game.

He's been involved in the design and construction of 2 courses in Tasmania (his home Oz state) in recent years whilst rehabbing some injuries and getting ready for the Champions Tour by playing some recent events in Australia.

Very good player, 5 Korn Ferry wins amongst other pro wins.

That's going to be all the news thisafternoon when I'm there. I was working the 13th hole yesterday, closest to the water. Ocean breeze, water view, waves crashing. Long par 3 playings coming up wide left, right or short. One player put it WELL behind the 13th grandstand (right over our heads) and had to take relief, carded a 6.

They flipped the 9s this weekend to finish on the 9th I mean... 18th. Probably for all the spectating and vending (and having the front that spectacular clubhouse in the background). The normal 18 is on the "back" side of the clubhosue as you know and wouldn't have the same punch. 😉

I’m marshaling there this week. Have played the course before and it looks great! Switching the nines does confuse me though. I was told that 18 green didn’t have enough room for grandstands and luxury boxes - there are seats behind the green but nothing on the sides. 9 green definitely has more seating. Still solid finishing holes for the tournament.

Not the fat ones!

So, I'm guessing Trevino's calling the PGA Tour, "The Flat Belly Tour", and the Champion's Tour, "The Round Belly Tour" is out of bounds here... 🙂

Sorry.  I was referring to Wynlakes Country Club where one of the qualifiers was held.  @bcflyguy1's buddy qualified at Wynlakes.

I wish I'd been able to play Newport CC.  I did caddy the 2006 US Women's Open there but was only allowed to roll a few putts and hit a few pitches.

that's the kind of player i admire ... just wants to compete at golf against the best, his age ... not really doing it for the money as much as the competition (presumably) ...

Yes, me too. In a recent interview he said he just loves to compete. Only turned 50 two weeks ago.

He comes from a famous Aussie sporting family. Amongst others, his mother Lindy was one of Australia's greatest female  amateur golfers and an uncle - Billy - was one of the great Aussie Rules players. So you can see where he gets it from.

Also, whispers are the courses he's working on will be pretty special - links style near Hobart.
