3. Muirfield Village

1) The Old Course
2) Pine Valley
3) Kiawah Ocean Course
4) Spy Glass Hill
5) Pebble

I'm not gonna list my honorable mentions, though I will say that based strictly on the track, they could easily be in my top five, however the coolest thing about Kiawah was visualizing that Ryder cup and standing, walking and playing from positions that those men, from both sides, played from when they left it all on that course. I really did get a few chills thinking back and just standing there. Also, Augusta National would have been on this list because I had the opportunity my last summer in college. The private jet down, playing with a friend from our club, who's father was a member and was flying down from Thursday evening-Sunday, for three rounds. Only problem was that I had to leave that Sunday for fall football camp.

I just couldn't swing it because they were playing Sunday and flying back later that afternoon. I was bummed though I figured, WTH, I was 23yo, and my friend was the same, and we had many years to fly back down. Yea, right, lol ;)

It was not to be.

As happens in life, we all graduated, went our own ways to different parts of the country, and things much more pressing than trying to get back to Augusta filled my plate.

So, here I am at 53yo, and the opportunity never presented itself again.

But WTH, I get to play Oakmont at least once a month and Pine every two years, so life ain't that bad :)

Fairways & Greens My Friends,
Richard

In the end, only three things matter~

How much that you loved...

How mightily that you lived...

How gracefully that you accepted both victory & defeat...

GHIN: Beefeater 24

Along with Wild Horse, its my favorite in the state. We were talking with one of our assistant pros after we played today (he played at UNK so was able to get there a few times), he told the other guy we were talking with that next time he's in Omaha he has to skip Champions and play Quarry Oaks because it just an awesome course. The views when you break out of the trees are spectacular, you're way up above the Platte River and on a couple of holes really can look down on it. Most of the holes are pretty isolated, you really see another group.

If you get back there it really is worth the time to play there.

I was fortunate to play a round at Cypress Point Club years ago. One of the best days of my life, nothing else in golf has been remotely comparable. I'm not saying it's the best course in the world, I'm saying Cypress is in its own category.

Of the other courses I've played, some are more memorable than others, some are better than others. But I can't really pick four more to round out a Top Five. I'm too easy a grader, there are very few courses I wouldn't gladly return to if I had a chance...I fall in love every time!

My Top 5 Courses I've Played (Based Strictly on FUN...nothing else, not ranking, not prestige, not conditioning and in no particular order)

Blackwolf Run River Course (unsurpassed beauty in late autumn, tons of risk-reward shots)
Plantation Course at Kapalua (lots of strategy and great vistas)
Pacific Dunes (lots of fun shots if the wind isn't insane)
Kiva Dunes (a hidden gem; lots of fun to play; course can absorb a monsoon in 30 minutes and be perfect)
Legends (My home course in MN -- I love this course and never tire of it; perhaps best set of par 3s on any public track)

HMs
Niorthland CC (Duluth -- if you haven't been here, you've never played greens like these)
Lahinch (a blind par3 ... hit it over the white rock and hope!)
Pine Meadow (Mundelein)
Wilderness (17 amazing holes cut out of the north woods; Tower, MN)
Interlachen (fun shots, a few crazy greens)
Oak Ridge (Hopkins, MN -- I know I said conditioning wouldn't factor...but WOW, i call this the "Augusta" of MN for conditioning)
