My history with Ping was in this order:
Ping Zing
Ping Zing 2
Ping Eye 2 Square Groove - still regret selling these and think about them often. They were refinished and felt like no others I have ever looked at since.
Ping i5 - just ordered them on eBay today and can't wait to get them.

In terms of success and being ahead of their time, the Eye 2 for sure. I think the best iron yet is the I20 though. Looking forward to seeing G25 in a couple weeks, should be thinner top line and less offset than the G20.

When they came back with the Eye 2 wedges a few years ago, I asked my rep if they had considered coming back with the Eye 2 in full sets to the market. He said the very question came up in a sales meeting, Mr. Solheim responded with "Why would we? They are inferior technology compared with what we have on the market now."

....that's a great reply based on a sound business phillsophy....

still...it would have been nice to still be able to get one..

or..they could relaunch it as a limited edition with the same look but with superior technology and call it the Ping Eye Super Plus!!

Ping has always made quality irons and have always been an innovator and a trend setter in the industry. So, in your opinion, what are the best / top irons Ping has ever made?
Of my close to30 sets of irons owned since 1975 a few have been Ping. Eye,G10,G20,S56,i15,i5. All great as are Ping current lineup starring the very well recieved i20s which are terrific. That all said the i5s I bought from a head Pros personal stash a few years ago ( 3-pw,DNGs300,WRX,D2,MDD grip) and keep as backup will never go unless I am down to last buck. If not for being a ironoholic I would play them and stop reading golf forums,LOL.

I played i15, tried the i5, used my friends, i20, and the s56. If you got the game s56 are my favorite, the i5 is good but a little too much offset IMO, i20 was good (almost got a set of them but kept my i15). I am actually looking for a set of i5s for my back up set.

I cast a vote for the i3+ played them for years still the best iron set I've used.
Just bought a set of i20s and really starting to enjoy them.
I've tried g10s and g25s but just prefer the I series.

I game the i5s and love them. I did do a fitting for the i20s and thought they were just as good but not good enough to pull the trigger. I do like the KBS tour stiff shafts. I play the DG S300s right now.

I've owned the Ping Eye2's, Eye2+,G2,G5,G15, and now I20's. The Eye2+ was in my bag the longest but as far as looks and feel the I20's are the nicest iron I've played from Ping.

I've had a an interesting run with Ping. I used to borrow my dad's Eye 2's growing up. When I finally bought a set I picked up some Eye 2's for myself. I loved my dads set but couldn't ever get used to my set. After finding this site I learned his were Eye 2+, mine were original Eye 2. When he passed away I got his + and they always seem to make it back in bag.

Nov 30 is the date he passed away. Every year on that day I play a solo round. Just his Eye 2+ and I. Every year I have an amazing round. Every year they go back in bag for few months after. Guess the clocks ticking on these i5's

Several to contend here. Ping's designs are great.

The most successful iron and best to the masses was the Eye 2+. The redesigned soles were an improvement over the original Eye 2. Copper Eye 2+ are just drool worthy!

My favorite (and best to me) was the ISI. It was the last iron that Karsten was involved with the design of. Many Ping engineers have said that the ISI was Ping's best design effort. They have thin, workable soles and the "fingers" in the cavity really work at moving harsh vibration from the center of the club without having the technology of a cavity insert. I still game them from time to time, and they are just a pleasure to play.
also would highlight: thin, workable soles
adding: extreme offset & extreme perimeter weighting = forgiveness

thin soles and forgiveness is tough combination

isi nickel is a classic - tough to top

i3+ blade and the i5's, Current Anser iron is good but I am still gaming my i5's and sold my i20's and Anser's. The i5's with ZZ65 are GIR machines.

I had the old eye2s, and like others have said, that may have had the largest impact on the industry, I loved the i20s, but I don't know...

A strong argument can be made that the current Anser is the best overall iron they have, similar playability with the i20s, slightly more "players" characteristics, and better feel. It's fair to say that the Anser is not worth the extra coin over the i20, but since price isn't a factor here, it is the best of materials and technology as well as playability that Ping has to offer.

I have hit all the new irons from other companies as well as the s55, and for the first time, I am 100% happy with my irons with zero interest to change.

I still own the "grandfathered" Eye2s which I voted for. Have also owned Zings, S59s and I10s. Currently have the S56s and Ansers Series 1.I love the Ansers and still game the I2s which perform well. I have not put the S56s in play recently but will do so in the next few rounds.

I am a blade player as I periodically go back to my Cally X-Prototypes and Srixon Pro 100s. The Ansers are very forgiving.

I would quite happily use the Eye 2s regularly except that i need a certificate from Ping to use them in Comp rounds on Australia.

By pretty much any yardstick it's the Eye 2, really. And for me at least, the beryllium copper ones.

The Zing 2, i5 and S56 models are all great clubs, too, but they're not in the same league as the brown bombers.
mat562 has probably way more credibility on this than me, but I've owned both versions of the Eye2 (cast and BeCu) and the I5 and I much prefer the I5. Personal preference only.

I will say though that if Ping could figure out a way to reproduce the BeCu irons, they would make a fortune!

My top 5 in order;

1) Ping Eye Square Groove Edition. Bonus points if BeCu. Best wedges.
2) ping S59 - Finally there was something thinner and less offset. (i3 blade was still chunky)
3) Ping i5 were a good rebound from i3.
4) s56 was a game changer in feel, and directly responsible for the s55 which Is really the #4 but honourable mention to s56 as the precursor.
5) 2013 Anser Forged.
