Salty Putter Grips

I will second Froth's notes on these. I've had one in the bag for quite some time now, about a year I think. No damage, going strong. I walk, ride, crawl. I'm not rough on my sticks but I don't worry about babying it either. I lay it down in the morning dew and have played it in the rain. It plays great when wet.

I had one and was so siked to have it put on a new GoLo 5 but the grip broke when the tech put it on. He says he followed the directions to a T. I wonder if it's because I had the grip for about 4 months while I waited for the putter and maybe the grip dried up?

it's cuz the tech was too rough w it, maybe tried to twist it... salty has been known to replace in some instances

I wouldn't expect them to replace it and I'm sure it was 100 percent the guy in the shops fault. He put on a ss mid slim to make up for it. Just sucks because the salty looks so cool

I just installed a Salty mid-size grip on my DH89x. I followed the directions, built up my shaft to be 0.600 diameter for approximately 11 1/2 inches), sprayed the grip tape liberally and gently pushed the grip on. No twisting whatsoever and install grip with no bending. I can see how someone can break the grip during installation if any bending is involved. Grip is aligned square as best as I can see. I cut away the excess tape buildup. The grip is slicker than what I'm used to but that will soon give way on use. Grip feels terrific. We'll see as I take the putter for a spin!

Don't be afraid to use some sandpaper on it to rough it up a little. Mine was slick when it was new. Used some sand paper now it has an awesome soft feel, almost like suede leather.

What I really like about mine is when my hands get sweaty in the summer there is absolutely no slipping. It is far and away my favorite grip.

I think I need one of these... Reminds me of a fishing rod grip and I've been fishin longer than I've been putting, so I think it might feel right at home. Plus they look great.

Maybe someone can help me on the the different sizes...

I see some at trusted sellers (willpga) list 1.3 Salty's and 1.5 Jumbo Salty's, yet the Salty website only shows 1.15 (mid plus) and 1.3 (oversized). I currently game a SS 2.0 and I also have a SS 3.0 on another putter. Is the mid plus really 1.3, but understated on the website?

Philstheman, the Slim 3.0 SS grip is very comparable to our 1.31in Oversized grip. The Mid-slim 2.0 SS grip is close to our 1.15 inch mid-plus. We just got a huge shipment in yesterday and the website will be updated soon to reflect the changes. This now includes the jumbos which are 1.45 inches in diameter. Hope this helps!

I have a mid-slim on my new gamer and so far it has met expectations. And those were high. Terrific grip. I have a newer gamer going soon and a Salty will be on this putter! Love these grips!

Purchased a Bridgestone td-03 and loved the putter. Was not a fan of spongy grip because of feel when damp and the reminder ridge in back.

Replaced with a 1.3 salty. Perfect feel and retained the td-03 balance. Awesome combo!!

I have the large on my dass bb1 and am torn on the feel. Looks great but feels a little firm and slick.

Gotta agree here, depending on the grit of paper you use you can achieve different results, I hit mine with 120grit over the entire length and it feels more velvety now, super awesome.

Agree with the sandpaper trick. Took some to mine and it feels terrific.

Love these grips in the hot summer. Soaks the sweat up nicely and doesn't get slick.

Question is, could this (not these exactly but ones made for) be used for regular grips like irons? Or do you guys think that it wouldn't be tacky enough for that? Just thought that crossed my mind. Maybe has been asked before.

Not sure I would want a cork club grip. I'm mighty fond of leather wrapped grips.

Ordered my first Salty yesterday for my Seemore mfgp2. Went with the mid version and got the shipping confirmation today. I play the putter at 33", any idea how many wraps I'll need to build up with for the install when it arrives?

It actually is a pretty tight fit on the butt end but as it does not taper there is give on the bottom end. I do a dry test fit and do a couple wraps of masking tape until its snug. Then I install as normal.

Just for reference, I think the smaller Salty Grip (mid-plus) is the same size as the SS Slim grip and slightly larger than the SS 2.0.

Jut put the oversize salty on my BB32 putter to replace the original pure grip. I didn't have any tools to save the grip and I had to use some chopstick dig-in method to save the original grip. Well that part was pain in the a** but something more was waiting. I first wrapped the tape once for my butt part and twice for the stepped down part. Well, the shaft was too thin for the salty hole. I then wrapped twice for the butt part but it was still thin. I then wrapped three times for my butt step and five times for the lower step. I could still push the grip on with so much ease. Now I am afraid that It might fall off... Wish I had anything to measure the diameter... Hopefully it stays... BTW my putter was 33 inch.

I wrapped duct tape on each step to make it even with the next step. I continued until all steps were taped and the same thickness through out the grip section of the shaft. I measured the built up layer until it measured just a hair under 0.60 inches using a caliper. Then I wrapped double sided tape for the final layer. With putter secured on my work bench in a vise, I applied grip solvent on the tape and pushed on the Salty with moderate pressure, nothing too forceful. It went on perfectly. I aligned the grip. When the tape dried and the grip was secure I trimmed the excess tape below the grip. No gaps present, perfect install !

Did anyone notice that Danny Willett who came 3rd in the World Matchplay at the weekend was using a Salty grip on his putter. On the Sky TV coverage here in the UK they did WITB interview with Willett after one of his matches and the interviewer pointed out the cork grip saying he had never seen one before and Willett said he had tried it and really liked it. Great exposure for Salty.

That's pretty cool! Glad to see if finally getting a little notice like that. With so many SS grips on tour I'm surprised we don't see a few Saltys. After trying a SS and just not liking how the grip felt in hand, the Salty has been an absolute joy and I haven't looked back since installing it. Plus, they just look so much better than SS!

Bringing life back to this thread to say that I ordered a oversize from Salty Grips and surprisingly got a call from Mark minutes after placing the order to clarify the details of the engraving I wanted.

Already top notch in my book!
