Most ridiculous thing heard on the range

I was playing in a big money scramble in a course across town that didn't have a range.  So to warm up, I stopped by a course close to my house to hit some balls.  When I walked in, I noticed that the course was shut down for the day as it was hosting the Special Olympics golf event.  Not a problem, range was open.  It was fairly packed with athletes but I found a stall and started warming up; wasn't there long but it was a pretty cool experience.  As I was hitting some balls, a member from the media was walking around taking some pictures...he wanted to get a picture of me warming up with the other athletes.  I politely declined and told him I wasn't in the event.

The half dozen shots I witnessed were banana slices peeling off at about 100 yards.

Yesterday 2 kids are in booths next to me. 1 kid hits a 7i thin, ball doesn't get more than 5 ft off the ground and he goes "I think that went 200 yards". 🤦‍♂️

 I should clarify these "kids" we're 19, 20 yrs old. Which makes it even more absurd.

A while back, some guy sliced a shot so bad it cleared the fence where cars are parked.  I said “hope you didn’t  hit any cars!”…he said “it’s ok, I didn’t park there” as he teed up another one.

I found a couple of those and I've had one for about 3 years. One of them had a "step" built into it so the same tee height is obtained and my wife loves them.

After reading some of these, I'm very glad that I can use the range at work.  Going to public ranges has gotten more comical than it used to be.  My home course is public, but I work at a very high-end CC (all CEO, CFO, MD, PhD types.)  So most of them spend their range time with one of our instructors or on their phones before a round.  

 

The stuff y'all posted is pure comedy gold.

I think I got paired up with those guys as a single a month or two ago! 😉

 

Guy who had been hitting weak wipey fades all day was telling his buddy (who hit weak fades with his driver but had a nice ball flight with irons) that he should start swinging with just the arms. 

 

I just kept my mouth shut.

Was next to a woman and man in the next stalls and overheard her attempting to teach him how to swing a golf club. Not only was her advise completely wrong but when I happened to see her swinging it was frightful.  She had no idea how to swing and was just smashing the club into the ground, lifting her legs up during the swing, duffing it off the tee, and a variety of other problems.  Then she stated she normally plays bogey golf and couldn't figure out what was wrong.  Had to bite my lip not to say anything.  Was amusing but they were having fun too I guess.

These are all actual conversations going on while I've been on the range. I can't even imagine how insufferable it has to be to play an entire round listening to that kind of inanity. I've also heard slightly older, reformed frat bros laying out all the latest gossip about everyone's wives and girlfriends. Some guys, I tell ya.

Down here the version is a little different as we are a retirement destination area. It usually has to do with hip or knee replacement surgery and what meds their Doc has changed them to and what diet the Doc has changed them to. With the younger Touron crowd it is what Gentlemans Club they went to last night how much they drank and how hungover they are
