Would you be upset? Purchased Shaft with Extension not knowing!

I would not recommend purchasing from The user in the link below.

I purchased the remaining shaft several days ago with intentions of using it this weekend. The good, It was shipped quick. The bad, it has a 1.5" extension in it.

The extension is making it very butt-end heavy (counterbalanced) which is not something I want. Also, it changes the stiffness in the butt of the shaft.

I asked the seller about the extension and to refund so I can ship back...

The only response I got was:

"It has what? I got both shafts from the tour van as received. One tipped 25 and the other 5. I didn't know it was any different as both had new looking grips? I got both used and dont certify a return just that it's legit and as I received it."

Seems like most of these deals tend to go south when questions aren't asked up front, and seller doesn't necessarily know all the "original" or altered specs, so doesn't specify in their ad.

I hope that the two of you can work it out, learn from the situation, and hopefully....move forward without losing (too much) money.

Added: I see that you have already left negative feedback for the seller.

If you are going to do that, why would you even start a discussion here about it???

If this goes anything like some previous threads dealing with BST....it will go south really fast around here.

From reading the ad, nothing was mentioned about plugs, and if the person from which you purchased these shafts knew nothing about the plugs, how can you fault him?

Just my opinion, but I think that you pulled the trigger a little quick on the negative feedback.

Most sellers don't pull grips to check for extensions especially if obtained from trusted source. Extension wasn't disclosed. His answer to your request tells me all I need to know.

If I sold a shaft that turned out having an extension that I didn't know about, my response would be to refund the buyers money and send a shipping label to return the shaft.

I would give negative feedback and file a claim for not as described with PayPal if the seller doesn't offer return with return shipping.

PS - Buyer shouldn't have to ask if there is an extension if seller followed rules to remove grip to check.

File a PayPal claim.

You should be upset and a BS, "that's how I received" the seller. You should file a claim if he refuses to accept a return and refund.

Caveat Emptor, yes. But with the BST rules a buyer should not have to worry about extensions and seller needs to know if there is an extension and if so, disclose it in the ad.

Not in the habit of selling (or buying) shafts, I humbly agree with all the above statements.

To answer your question, no. Extensions are common, more today than ever. When selling a shaft in secondary market, I state its current length, only. Intent isn't to be misleading. Fact, I often buy used shafts to test and never remove the grip or tape to notice 'if' there's an extension. Its not an issue regarding shaft performance or integrity... its just part of the secondary market, where shafts cost less.

If it came from "the van" it would not have a plug in it.

I did buy an Oban Kiyoshi that had a 2in extension. Seller was in Canada so I didn't even bothered claiming anything, even being upset. Never used the shaft.

Then, not knowingly, I sold an AD DI to a guy that found a 0.5in extension and I returned the money and gave the shaft away to a high schooler. So I learned that not necessarily a seller knows what he has.

Just my 2 cents but if the seller didn't follow the rules, specifically the rule mentioned above then he has to bite the bullet and take back the shaft and issue refund. If he had followed the rule, then you would NOT have bought the shaft and this would not be happening!

I do think you should try to work it out before posting negative feedback though and if he doesn't follow through with refund, file a claim like others have mentioned!

I'd make him aware of this thread so he could see the communities thoughts on the matter. He owes you a full refund, including shipping it back at his expense.

If he's unwilling, I'd file a paypal claim.

Wow, Thanks for the overwhelming response so far! The seller has been unresponsive since last night around 8pm. I posted up negative feedback already. I have tried to message and text the seller over 10 times so far asking if I would be refunded with no response. How rude.

As far as the above mentions of the rule... I am and was fully aware of that rule. I would have liked to think the seller was telling the truth about not knowing the extension was used but at this point I feel he probably knew.

As far as refund I offered to even send a new grip back with the shaft. I didn't ask for a shipping label I would have paid to send it back. I guess I'm ostuck with something I cannot use. Maybe someone will want it but I just don't see that happening.

Would never ever buy from this seller.

I wish I could find file a claim but he duped me into sending funds gifted at $135. Boy is this a lesson learned. Fact is I've sent funds gifted for thousands in the past for Cameron Tour putters... I'm not mad about the money though, I'm mad about the moral of the story. Karma is a b!+€#.

I would be upset. First it has to be put in AD and 2nd he sold you a 3 Wood shaft which is cheaper than a driver. Send it back and he should pay for it. Bad part is that once you take off grip PayPal says you modified it and can't be returned. Hopefully seller agrees with you.

If you don't remove the grip and state current length only, you should also state that length may or may not include an installed shaft extension. This statement is not misleading. Otherwise, intent or not, you are. It is not your place to absolutely declare no issue with performance or integrity and part of the secondary market.

I have done this too. If I really want it and the price is fair, I will add the fees which is what like $5 in most cases of items around $130-150 so it is reasonable if you are getting a deal to begin with.

The guy is wrong, and not acting like any decent member here would. There's no doubt that I and all of the other good sellers here would refund and pay for return That being said, and not to beat a dead horse, but gift man? Really?

I had offered a member $125 from his $140 price tag and he came back to gift it. I said NO he replied I was cheap and didn't want to spend a few bucks for fees. To me deal was over a few bucks maybe but a mistake that might cost me $125 later. Don't gift!

I texted and texted last night with no response. Then again all morning with nothing. Of course I expect immediate action as I don't want this shaft that has a big piece of crappy plastic in the butt end.

Am I the only one that finds this a little fishy. Sounds like you were texting his cell phone and he apparently doesn't look at his phone or have it with him when he leaves the house. Highly doubtful imo. Sounds like a good person to stay away from. Hope it all works out for you but I'm guessing from his response it wont.

I can't believe you gifted to someone you don't know. Seller needs to refund regardless of his knowledge of the item. He's selling it, that's all that matters and he broke BST rules
