Apex Pro 19

Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on the Apex Pro 19 vs the Apex 19 and Apex 14. I know that’s an older model but something just seems to work for me, they really fit my eye. I have tried some other sets lately but no success.

I just went to Club Champion and hit but it was the first session of the year so ball striking was off. I was eventually fit into Apex with Steelfiber i110 stiff. He didn’t let me hit the pros because he said they were not as forgiving and I would have more success with the Apex.

I was looking at the combo set but with my 14s, for some reason I just hit the pros a lot better. I like the look of the pros better but am not that opposed to the Apex. Any advice on if I would be giving up a lot by going with the pros? And has anyone compared these to the 2014s? I would assume they would be an upgrade but not sure if that is just marketing hype.

I have own the second version of Apex as combo set.

And I have hit the new Apex in my fitting.

I honestly cannot tell the new one is better than older one.

I would go with combo set.

I was just coming here to start a topic on the Apex 19's because i recently switched to the Apex Pro's from the X forged 18's. I'm using the same exact shafts, same length, lie, swing weight etc and the Apex Pro's are easily 7-10 yards farther. I spent a couple minutes on trackman outdoors with them and saw a pretty dramatic drop in spin as well. Im curious if anyone else has experienced similar results? I like the long irons a lot because they're flying higher, farther and a little straighter which is great for my game but I keep hitting it longer than expected with the short irons and it's been pretty hard to get use to.

I guess i could try using a softer golf ball that spins a bit more but i've gotten pretty comfortable to the Chromesoft X.

Is anyone else noticing lower spin and longer distance with these irons?

Definitely noticing lower spin. And getting more distance because I’m not getting much stopping power on greens anymore.

In contrast to you guys, I'm noticing spin that is right on target. 8k with the 8 iron, 6k with the 6 iron, 10k with the PW.

For me, the only thing that I'm thinking about is swapping out the Apex Pro 19s for the Apex Pro Dot 19s. But realistically, I could use the little extra forgiveness with the long irons with the cupface, and since they look functionally the same, it would be giving up forgiveness for no real gain...

Anyway, I think between the apex pro 19s and apex 19s the real question is: are you a long ball hitter/do you want help with distance? Or do you want less offset? Top line looks? Those are the big things that I think separates the two clubs.

I am not a long hitter at all. 7 iron around 145 right now. Used to be 165 but I started casting and got into some bad habits which I am hoping to fix this season. The top line and feel are what I am looking for. I’d love to throw distance in there but confidence in the club is really important.

These are a sharp set of irons I would definitely like to spend some time with them. Shape is great, setup is best I’ve seen from Callaway too.

having tried all 3 im still gaming the original 2014 apex pros 6-pw along with the original apex 6 and 4 irons bent to apex pro 4 and 5 iron specs. kind of a made up combo set. just cant beat the feel of the original apex pros and apexs for me and the gapping is spot on. i dont want a 185 7 iron. didnt like the feel of either 16 apex and apex pro. had the combo set but traded it back in. pro was clickier and the cup face was too jumpy. the 19 apex pros are much better feel wise but i kind of just fell in love with the tour v w/ apex pro combo and am sticking with it.

Ask a question and get a different answer from everyone. But, I will share my experience.

I have the 4-pw in the Apex Pro '19, with Modus 120x. I absolutely love them. I found them to be more forgiving than the Z785, my second choice during the fitting. Of course the honeymoon phase was great. I was flushing shots, but oddly enough not scoring. That was all me, and other parts of my game, not the irons. Now that the honeymoon phase is over, I am not hitting them as centered/flush as before. I guess my swing flaws are starting to show. However, even though I am hitting more off the toe, like chrome part toe - haha, I am not loosing too much. In fact, I noticed a big difference from my old irons - 2014 TM Tour Preferred MC's. With my old irons, a miss that bad would have me scrambling from 30 yards away from the green, left or right. With my Pros I am in a greenside bunker or just short in front. Obviously, this is a much better position to be in.

This is probably as real of a response as you'll get out of anyone. Remember this is WRX, so when the dots are made available everyone will jump ship to them, but not this guy. I am sold on the forgiveness and beauty of the irons. These will be really tough to get out of my bag.

Some have reported flyers with the cupface. I can assure you I have not had one except out of a lie that any club would give you. The consistency of spin and distance is what I love most about these. My 7-iron clubhead speed is 96-97. So, if I am not getting flyers I doubt too many slower swing players would, but maybe I am naive.

The Apex Pro 19's definitely seem a little "hot" but I see no reason to switch to the Apex DOT's. I had the X forged before and the Dot's would probably perform like those. the only thing i'd possibly consider is doing the DOT heads in the short irons for distance control. I actually love having the cup face in the longer irons to create more separation at the top end of my bag.

I'm actually switching over to the apex dot from the apex pro 19s. I've shot some of my best rounds ever with these, but I don't need more distance (I live in Colorado, everything goes SO far here as it is, having the ability to hit a 7i 195 yards isn't exactly necessary...). Now, the dots won't be any shorter, but at least they'll feel a bit softer.

So.. I'm sticking with the Apex Pros, just going dot head. Pros coming to a BST near you for that reason only.

I don't have any experience with the new Apex Pros, but one thing in the OP caught my attention. He said Club Champion "didn't let him" try the Apex Pros.

I'm sorry, but if I'm paying top dollar for a fitting I want to try what I want to try.

I doubt it was a "won't let you," more than a "probably shouldn't, I don't think it'll fit" and the OP took that as "refusing." I've never seen someone at club champion refuse to let me hit something. I was by no means a good enough ball hitter to try the MP 18 MB but I said I wanted to try them out, so my fitter said sure.

Demoed a couple of times. Really didn’t like the sound of the cup face. Sounded hollow (for lack of a better word). The crappy thing about fitting is that the good place near me fits off a 6 iron. I would very much have liked to hit the non-cup face irons.

I can go to a big box store and do that, but they will tape them, and it’s not really the same.

I would expect the dot heads to be better.

I game the '19 pros currently. Played the '16 pros since release. I would say a coin toss. '19 a bit longer _(maybe)_ but also a degree stronger. Both feel great, but I think the '16 pros may have the edge. Spin about the same. 300-400 rpm difference it seemed across the board for me. KBS Tour shafts.

The key difference for me to switch was the long irons are way easier to play/more forgiving in the '19 pros over the '16.

Honestly I would say all 3 you are think are going to be very close in performance.

Still playing and loving my Apex Pro 14s....a regular in our foursome has the Apex which are very nice as well. I haven't hit the Apex 2019, cuz I'm a reformed club ho, so don't want to tempt myself.

IF I were to buy new irons, I'd probably go with 2019 Apex combo set.

Well just got the pros and they are great. They are not as long as I was hoping but they feel and look great. Only complaint so far is I hit 5 balls on the range and this is what the 6 iron looks like. The ground was a little wet and we do have some sand on our driving range but I am still surprised at how fast the finish came off. wccc9iy8an8y.jpeg

  • 2 weeks later...

Just took my Mizuno MP-69s out of the bag for the first time in a long time and they aren't going back in. I found a set on ebay that was to my exact specs and couldn't resist. I've hit them on trackman before and saw they went about a club longer, less sping, but incredible forgiveness compared to my mizzies. Took them on the course yesterday and honestly don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything. Love the feel, the forgiveness. Even the 4 iron was easy to hit, I replaced my T-MB long irons with their standard 4-5. Played a sky-high 9-iron over trees and a couple of punch shots so the workability is absolutely great. I'm a high spin player so had some to sacrifice, not an issue at all for me. I'd say either the Apex or the Pro (I only hit the pro because I'm so used to a compact head) are great options, but if you want extra distance go apex, if you are more concerned with hitting an exact number go pro. I'm absolutely in love with these, get a set!
