Tiger Woods WITB - what would have been Masters week

He just posted a picture of his new Monster Energy golf bag. Looks like he has some M5 fairway woods and a P790 2 iron. The rest of the set-up looks the same. Interesting that he would change out the Tour Preferred 2 iron he seemed to favor in 2016/2017.

tiger and Monster Energy just never sat right with me for some reason. He seems so much more like a red bull kinda guy. Anyways, interesting to see he likes the M5 product ahead of the SIM selections or even M6, especially im the 3w. I’ve had the M5, M6 and SiM Max 3 woods, and the m5 is the most demanding 3w I’ve hit recently.

I have a hard time seeing him liking the profile of the SIM fairways

His WITB would’ve been the same as when we last saw him at Genesis: Sim Driver, M5 3W & M3 5W (P790 UDI is the 2-Iron; first used at the Open Championship last year at Portrush; the 5W or 2i goes in the bag based on the course), P7TW 3-PW & MG2 56 & 60 with his grind & his Cameron putter; old M5 headcovers as he has been using SIM ones this year & the picture is from this year as it now has 2019 on the bottom for his win last year.

It is probably course dependent and he swaps the 2 iron or 5 wood in and out. Although, I only count 13 clubs visible and no putter. So it could be a 3 iron. That would be something new for him.

Yeah he usually goes 2i or 5w and would expect him to carry both at home, just seem like he loves the 5w so he usually games that!

Could be a 3i replacing his 3i blade.... now that would be super interesting.

Yep, & I don't get the lack of love for the M5 Fairway. It looks almost perfect, it's very versatile, & it's got a nice compact profile at 160 CC.

The SIM Fairways are just too large to suite my eye.

That picture - because of the headcovers - is probably from last year. TM wouldn’t let him use old headcovers. Plus, he also switched to the SIM headcovers previously. Don’t really matter what’s under the headcovers for TW.

loved my m5 3wood but decided to try the sim3 based on my sim driver, which added 40 yards to my driver. i hit it so bad i called TM thinking i got a fake club, i lost 90 yards w/ the sim 3 wood, i hit a snap hook that went 150 yds 9 out of 10 shots. gonna go back to my m5 3 wood. the sim feels dead in the 3 wood, the driver on the other hand has such a hot face, its unbelievable!

All his WITB photos have 3x of the TM wedges. I wonder which wedge he doubles in the bag? He probably goes through one of them pretty quickly

According to TM, there are no plans currently. Seems like a dumb move if you ask me.

Makes no sense when they're milled and supposedly easy to make. You have Rahm and Woodland rocking it.

SIM fairways seem like a miss to me

I do enjoy my SIM Max driver, time will tell if it stays in the bag though. Much more muted "thud" feel/sound compared to the G400 Max i played last year.

Maybe they don't want Vokey or others to knock off the TW wedge. But then again, I'm sure the OEMs could just get someone to buy an approximation from Artisan

Give it time. I think we will see this TW wedge in the near-ish future

That's what I don't understand. Why does it take so long? They already have the milling program. The TW grind shouldn't be harder to make than other grinds with the milled grinds. At the very latest after his Masters W you'd think that they start production immediately.

These leads me to two possible conclusions why we haven't seen them yet.

1. TM has some sort of agreement with Mike Taylor to not use "his" grinds commercially (seems a bit unlikely to me)

2. The P7TW have underperformed sales-wise and the TM execs think the demand isn't there.

Did anyone expect the P7TW to sell really well? I thought it was supposed to be limited from the start. It’s the second set of blades in TMs lineup. Blades narrow the gap of who is buying and so does increased price. I don’t think my blade players have TM at the top of their iron list also.

The run was limited. We went though what we were able to get pretty quickly and we didn't get that many sets allocated. The ones that got them love them. Then again, they're blade players so I guess they would.

Pricing was pretty aggressive too. I assume even at $200, more people would be willing to splurge on a wedge.

Tiger has a gapr, udi tp, and a 790udi he swaps in and out. His 5wd is still an m3 but he has been testing SIM, but it may go too far for what he needs.

I feel like the Gapr only saw action at the British. I don't think he's ever put the 790 in play. UDI TP was in there when he hasn't played the 5 wood but it seems like ages since he took that 5 wood out. I guess this year's British would have been interesting to see what driving iron he'd use
