You are usually testing and playing a vast amount of newer offering, didn't see any improvements in the MD Forged over the 3? I personally thought the Forged felt much softer, however I liked the MD2 Tour and the MD3 grind better.

I have 2 MD forged and 1 MD 3, prefer the look of the 3 but the feel of the forged.

I would love to see a md 2 Tour Grind but forged and with a PM Grind option. Basically I want what I have but in a forged head.

Well, not buying those to replace my MD 2 Tours next season. Hopefully MD Forged goes on CPO for a steal or i'll just get another set of Tours off the bay. Might grab a 64* if they give it the Roger and Phil treatment.

Bring back the U grind please.

 

And the PM grind..

 

The PM grind was effectively a modified U grind. They need to bring back the PM grind from the original XTour wedges. The p.m. grind and the U grind was not good for the vast majority of people.

 

Curious as to why the U grind didn't work for most people. I thought it was the most versatile grind available. All my wedges have something similar that I've done and I love them. Not looking to argue, just interested in your insight.

 

Depends on your conditions, but I thought the U-grind was only good when the conditions were very firm/fast. I agree the "channel" or concave sole can be a wonderful addition to any sole grind. However, I found on normal or softer turn, the U-Grind just dug into the grass like crazy for many.

It was just a case of me loving the MD3's and not having any reason to change. I like the Forged shape better so I'm excited to get all the grind options and shape in the 4's. As for feel I didn't noticed much difference.

MD2 Tour are forged. Or were you referring to a PM Grind in forged? Two totally different wedges.

I agree with you. I still rock my MD2's because I love the grinds that they had. Plus their bounce options aren't as good as the MD2's IMO

From what I am reading:

 

Callaway developed 4 unique grinds to suit the shots you hit, the courses you play and the swings you make. It’s the versatility and selection you need to get up and down from anywhere.

 

W-Grind: A slightly wider sole. It’s perfect if you play in softer conditions or you come in with a steep angle to the ball. And it’s extremely playable out of all types of bunkers.

S-Grind: Our most versatile option. It’s great for a wide range of conditions (normal, soft or firm), shot types, and swings (moderate to sweeping attack angles).

C-Grind: Designed for firmer conditions and versatility around the green. The heel and toe relief allow for a number of shots, especially opening up the face and keeping the leading edge low.

X-Grind: The Newest grind from Callaway which is a Fusion of W and C Grind, this grind gets both advantages of W and C grinds.

If you are playing a modern set of irons with a Pitching wedge as your shortest club, the most common wedge gapping would be to have a so called gap wedge that is usually around 50-52*, a sand wedge around 54-56* and a lob wedge 58-62*. The gap wedge is often used for relatively full swings when your set pitching wedge would go to far, or for chipping from just off the green. The sand wedge is for even slightly shorter shots with a fairly big swing, or for chipping when you need to carry the ball a little further before reaching the putting surface. The lob wedge if for when you need to fly the ball and have very little roll out on the green, for example if you have a bunker or other hazard in front of you, but the pin is close to the front edge of the green.

 

Back in the day, a sand wedge almost always had more bounce and was the easiest to use from the sand. Today, many people use the lob wedge if the pin is short, or the gap wedge if the pin is far back on the green as well.

 

It's not a bad idea to start with just a sand wedge and learn what it does and how to use it, and as your game improves you may find the need for a lower lofted or higher lofted wedge too and can supplement those at that time.
