You couldn't pry my Srixon 745's away from me. Perfect iron -- looks good, helps me when ball striking is not great, and not mainstream, at least not outside of WRX.

Only thing I don't like about them is they're so soft they look beat to sh** now and are also browning.

On a side note, if anyone else doesn't feel the same about them and have a set, holla at me.

Playing the S55 now, backups are Z745s. Got my eye on some MP25s, too... New irons are great but there really is no reason to buy new other than wanting to.

I been playing my MP-53's for about 5 years now, finally replacing them with AP2/3 combo set.

Is anyone happy with their iron set that's a year or older????? I just bought covert forged in December and Im dying to switch to something new just because....

I buy a lot of newly released irons but I always go back to my 11 year old Bridgestone J33 CBs. They are ft for me I am so used to them, it's hard to switch. Partly because I never really give the new irons a real chance, let's say stick with them for 6 months or so.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just played my last 2 rounds with my old set of J40 CB’s and then a set of original Nike blades I just bought. Hit both sets at least as good as the new set of JPX 900 Tours I got fitted for last year. As long as the irons fit you as far as lie angles and length and the shaft is right, there isn’t anything your going to gain from new irons. All they do now is make the lofts way stronger and tell you they are longer. Kind of a joke. I think it’s best to play irons you fall in love with the feel of more than anything else. When I look at those Nike blades or J40’s in my bag I just feel like I’m going to love hitting them.

I’m going on my fourth season with my JPX 850 Forged. I’m actually surprised that I haven’t been more tempted to switch to something new and shiny, but they just work for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still oogle at the newest models everytime I stroll into the PGA store, but the minimal offset, relatively compact shape, and forgiveness of the 850s keep working for me.

Irons are irons. Really there has been zero innovation for players cavity backs in the past 20 or so years.

Still play Ben Hogan Apex Plus Pros. Bought them new in 04/05. Have dabbled around with other sets, but never could get comfortable over the ball with them. Re-shafted them about 3yrs ago, and haven’t looked back. Always looking for a new set, as my “scoring” irons are getting pretty worn on the sweet spot. Always hit demo days up every year, but haven’t had any luck. Until I do, I’ll keep grinding.

Definitely happy with my JPX 900s, only had them just over a year but absolutely no desire to change them. Best all round irons I've come across and after three wins and a semi final this year with them confidence is still very high.

The 919s are stunning, better looking in my opinion but the difference in performance was negligible.

Always try the new irons when they come out but haven't had any desire to switch as nothing has the performance/looks/feel all in one package as far as I'm concerned.

The New Year will bring new irons to try so we shall see what happens. It will genuinely take an incredible, as yet unannounced release to tempt me.

Once you find the right set... I'm into hunting for proven old models in great condition on the bay. Found some 745s is the wrapper a month or two back and they kicked out the MP64's I did the same thing with a year prior.

Have been playing my current set for a few seasons now. Will likely play these until the faces are very worn. I did just replace the shafts. From KBS back to dynamic golds.
