PXG Gen 3... Jan 2020 (ST, Gen 3 T and P Photos added Page 13)

Fitted yesterday into the P’s. Tested all but the XP’s. Fun day and the fitter was open to me trying them all. Thought the T’s might be the order of the day but winter here and a while since I had swung a golf club. Probably similar to an off day on the course. Didn’t see any real distance gains over my 2017 790’s but with what I will call a beveled top line it was like looking down on a blade. Really nice feel and a bit better dispersion.

My first set of PXG, so we will see how it goes.

I currently have a Gen 1 0311 XF and 0311 combo set (5 & 6 - 0311 XF and 7-PW 0311) that I still really love but the Gen 3s have me thinking it might be time to consider an upgrade. I read through this entire thread I see that some on here have said the went with a XP and P combo set but really haven't seen any follow up with any details on how it worked out for them. I would be curious to hear from any of you (or anyone else) that have gone the XP and P combo route on how's it worked out?

Thinking about putting in an order for Hero pricing. Obviously won't be able to get fit before the promotion ends on March 31. I'm flip flopping between the T's and P's. I have hit the Gen 2's and loved the feel and shape. For the Gen 3's I am reading that the T's might be a bit smaller this time around while in previous models the T was still on the larger side? Like for Gen 3 is the T now Titleist t100 small or somewhere between an iblade and the blueprint? If that is the case, the T is probably too small for my taste. Does anyone have any thoughts on the size of these? I know this is Golfwrx where everyone leans toward smaller and less offset. For reference, I currently have a set of MP20's that are a combo of HMB, MMC and Blade. I think the HMB is a bit too big and the blade is a bit too small, but the MMC is just right. Would the P be really similar to the MMC or i210 or is the P way bigger than even those?

This is just splitting hairs, because I know I can easily play either model, just curious about others experience with the looks behind the ball.

I originally ordered a split set with the five and six iron in the P , and seven through gap in the T. I took advantage of the 30 day guarantee and shipped the clubs back for all P’s. The size of the T’s were not intimidating, but launched them a bit too low for my liking. Had the P’s bent 1 degree weak to reduce the offset a bit. I think the p’s are close to 210’s in size.

Thanks! This is useful. I gamed the i200's for a while and liked the size, but probably wouldn't want to go much bigger than that.

Anyone else drooling over the new Sugar Daddy wedges but can't stomach $650 for a single wedge? I currently game the Gen 3 0311 P's, Gen 2 XF Driver, and Gen 1 Forged wedges. Would love to upgrade the Gen 1 Forged wedges with the Sugar Daddy but, even after shelling out 3k for the Gen 3 P's, I just cant bring myself to pay $1,500 with tax and shipping for a pair of wedges.

I firmly believe the new milled wedges are for show more than anything else. Based on what I've read on the #PXGTroops FB group page, most have the forged wedges and hardly anyone has the milled wedge. They rave about the feel of the forged wedge. As much as everyone is die-hard about PXG on the group page, everyone is cost sensitive and that's why they haven't upgraded to Gen3 irons yet. I feel like they've got an uphill battle when the new Gen3 driver, woods and hybrids come out. Those better be true "game changers" and not incremental changes, such as the gen 2 to gen 3 irons. That being said, I do love my Gen 3 P irons, ha!

Can anyone compare the gen 1 t’s to the gen 3 t’s? I’ve read some comments about the gen 3 being a smaller profile and less forgiving than the gen 1. I feel the gen 1t is very forgiving for a “blade” and the profile is nice. I also understand the 0311P getting larger in size as well??

Since Hero pricing is $159 for the Gen 2 irons now, are the Gen 3 irons really worth almost $200 more per iron than the Gen 2’s? That is a big difference, if only an incremental improvement. Wish I had hit the Gen 3’s before the lockdown. Suppose the pricing will stay at this price or go lower, as people won’t be buying clubs, especially costly ones when we are locked down.

Would someone please be so kind to post some good playing position pictures of the PW and 8 iron in the Gen 3 0311P?

I think they're still expensive since they were just released. it's like discounts on prior year model cars versus current model year cars. I foresee Gen3 pricing staying this way for the foreseable future. I think they're at the Heroes Pricing for two weeks but who knows, they might extend it.

This group is savvy enough to see through the marketing speak, so they can change the material, change the forging (5x forged in the case of Gen3), change the goo (impact reactor!) but for me, it comes down to 1) can i hit it in the face more consistently than my current clubs 2) from an appearance perspective, does it look good to me at address? Those two factors, for me, make the biggest difference in my club buying selections. I don't need my 7 iron to go 200 yards, I don't need a driver to go 300, which I do, but can I do it often?

The thing that sold me about Gen3 was that I got better feedback from Gen 3 than the gen 2 clubs. When I practice at the range, I had to stop listening to music because the feel off the face was pretty same. Instead, I had to start listening for the different ways the ball was coming off the face as it relates to ball flight.

Going from Ping G400 to the Gen2 XF irons, I was amazed that I've never hit irons or woods that wanted to find the fairway or green. I liked the way they felt off the face but I had three separate instances to hit the gen 3 and finally, on the final fitting, I took my 7 iron and did "Pepsi challenge" with chips, pitches, punch shots, half swings, 3/4 swings, full swings and any other iteration of getting the club square to the ball because I consider myself pretty oblivious to feel. At first, I didn't feel much in the full swings but in the slower and shorter swings, the feel off the club face was very apparent. As soon as I got paired with a different shaft, the ball trajectory and dispersion was even tighter than with the Gen2. My only regret is that the Gen3 didn't come in black, but that's ok.

I went from Ping s55 to Gen 2 P which was harder than transitioning to Gen 3 T, due to the greater offset in the P version. The Gen 3 T are basically the same size as the s55, with almost identical specs. I like to say it's a modern version of the s55 since the same individuals created both. As far as the performance of the P versus the T, I have identical shafts in them and I'm hitting the T further with more stopping power. You're not going to go wrong with either the T or P version in Gen 3. You just have to get the one that's a better fit for you. If you're a good ball-striker and a mid to low handicap, I would lean T as they're very forgiving and are pin seekers.

Fish -- not a big difference in performance. A fairly large difference in terms of feel in my opinion. Even PXG admits that. Gen1's were soft heads. Gen2 was purposely made to feel more "crisp" or "firm" in order to get ball speed up. Gen3 feels softer than Gen1 and way softer than Gen2 for me (everyone's "feel" is different). The Gen3's are just comfortable for me, which is what I was seeking. Would I say there was a $200 difference in performance from Gen2's to Gen3's? No. I had nominal gains in ball speed and better dispersion (but not significantly better). I will say this. The KBS TGI's feel a helluva lot better in the Gen3's than the Gen2's. Haven't fully reconciled why yet.

Thanks Ruleschamp. I liked the Gen 2’s when I tested them, but did not like the numbness. If the Gen 3’s have more feel, that would be great. Currently play the Bridgestone J40 Dual Pocket Cavity With Aerotech Steelfiber I95, which have really good feel. However, the Gen 2 irons were longer than the J40’s, but did not have the feel.
