Chamblee on Rory and PGL

Pretty much the most adamant I've ever heard Chamblee in his outspoken support and praise for Rory's stand against the PGL, especially about the money source from S.Arabia. Personally gave me a chill down my spine listening. We all rarely question money sources when we can grab a big chunk for ourselves, maybe it's time we all did that.

The players using the wait and see strategy or "leverage" are looking increasing bad in my mind.

Chamblee is courageous too, the people who control that "money source" have a far and wide reach so it could cost him commercial opportunities. He deserves a lot of credit.

a bit of selective holiness. Not buying it.

I'm guessing Chamblee won't be taking any trips to Saudi Arabia any time soon. If that's where the money is coming from, and it looks like it is, then I agree with Chamblee and Rory on this.

Yep. The DP World Tour Championship, Dubai is a golf tournament on the European Tour and is the climax of the European Tour Race to Dubai. DP World is a logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.Dubai Ports International (DPI) was founded in 1999.[2] Its first project was at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, collaborating with a local partner on the management and operation of the South Container Terminal (SCT).It was later, in September 2005 that Dubai Ports International officially merged with the Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) to form DP World.Dubai-based DP World has been awarded a 30-year concession by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) for the management and development of the Jeddah South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port.

And... wait for it...DP World, Hutchison Ports, and PSA International are under a joint venture with [saudi sovereign wealth fund] the Public Investment Fund.

Rory has won two DP World Championships. If Rory doesn't think he's already connected to Saudi money, especially the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, he needs to look a little deeper into his financial affairs.

Oh the tangled webs we weave...

He's not saying he has no connection it or has never benefited from that money in the past but going forward he doesn't want to be controlled/dependant/owned (professionally) by it. Seems simple to me.

The irony, of course, is that SA is criticized for being a violent regime without regard for liberty

Yet we sell them billions in weapons and may sell them like half a trillion more dollars in weapons in the near future.

And, of course, most of us bank with the same companies who underwrote the $2 Trillion Aramco IPO, the primary source of SAs money.

"Aramco has selected JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), Morgan Stanley (MS.N) and Saudi Arabia’s National Commercial Bank (1180.SE), which were previously working on the share sale before it was paused last year, the sources said, declining to be identified due to commercial sensitivities.

It has also chosen Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAC.N), Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N), Credit Suisse Group AG (CSGN.S), Citigroup Inc (C.N), HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.L) and Saudi Arabia’s Samba Financial Group 1090.SE, they added."

Agreed. I'm not sure why it's a "tangled web" when a guy educates himself, comes to a conclusion, and decides how he's going to alter his decision-making process moving forward.

"educated" as in: did research and used whatever he found to help him make decisions. I respect that. I don't care which way he falls on a particular issue to be honest, I like that he was thoughtful about it in his own way and made a decision he believes in. Jeez man, settle down.

Which way he falls on a particular issue isn't the point. The point is about making statements that are in direct conflict with actions and then attempting to present that position as doing the right thing ( i.e. I don't like this world tour because there is Saudi money involved, but I'll take the Saudi money when it comes from a proxy via the Euro Tour. And in fairness to Rory, he may not actually be that "educated" about where the money comes from).

Again, the term selective holiness fits perfectly. It's a "proper" position to take and it pleases the PGA Tour.

There is nothing for me to settle down about. It appears you are the one who is upset about the facts.

I'm not nearly as wound up as you are about a guy who decided where and when he was going to ply his trade. I say good for him.

Big difference though.

Yes the ET has significant money from that source but Rory isn't obliged to play in those events but if he signed up for PGL not only is he obliged to play in the events it would be entirely funded from that source.

It's obvious the two scenarios aren't comparable and it's just deflection to suggest he's trying to claim he has zero connection to that "money source" both now or anytime in the past.

Rory's stance is admirable and he's not claiming he'd pass some kind of historical financial purity test, zero conflict.

Good for Brandel and good for Rory, it is easier to have those kind of principles when you have plenty of money but nonetheless it is good to see them taking the position that they are. Contrast and compare to Phil , DJ and all the boys that took a chunk of the dirty dollars earlier in the year.

Just want to make sure that this worldly and rather erudite post isn't totally ignored which is what seems to be happening in this thread and any other thread where SA is mentioned.
