That round of golf had some possibilities to be sure. This could have been the best thread of 2014 so far.

I broke a rule I have of never playing on a weekend last summer. Got paired with a man and his wife. This was her first time ever playing or even hitting a ball. She wiffs the first 3 swings off the tee. Finally she rolls one out there a few yards. She's blaming her husband for not making her clubs better. We finally get close to the first green and he tells her to hit a 9 iron. She's looking in the bag and starts yelling at this poor guy that he made 2 9 irons. He gives me this im sorry look and walks over to her takes the club and turns it around and shows her its a 6, not a 9. Half way down the fairway on number 2 she's talking on her cell phone and wont hit her shot until she's done.

After god knows how many strokes we make it to the green and she's complaining about how long is this going to take, Im hot. We finish putting out and he walks over to me says, I think we're going to head in, my wife is getting over heated. In my head I was thinking....So am I!!! If I wanted to listen to this crap I would have brought my first wife.

I finished the round alone and enjoyed the rest of the day. after the round I told the guy in the pro shop...YOU OWE ME FOR THAT!!!

That was the worse 2 holes of golf I've ever experienced in 40 years of playing.
My first thought on that situation is why the heck did that man allow his wife to be on the course at all. Anyone who plays golf (with a brain) knows that you don't take someone (man OR woman) who's never swung a club out on an actual golf course.

Was his name bubba
LOL. I had a similar encounter with Bubba at the 2010 Humana in La Quinta. He was playing La Quinta Country Club and was getting ready to tee off on a par 3. It was a Thursday and I was the only person in the entire gallery on this particular hole.

I was surprised to see how close the ropes were to the tee box but thought it would be cool to see an up close swing of Bubba. I wasn't in his line of sight...I basically stood in a position if I were playing with a buddy.

After Bubba addressed his ball, he turned around and gave me a death stare...I'm sure he was worried that I might step on a leaf or something and distract him.

However, if you base this off of responses/posts of a lot of people, I get it, I just find it sad.

Don't over think it...it was tongue in cheek. Same thing as half of the doctors in a graduating class being in the bottom 50%. It has to be that way.

He wanted an excuse to start over.

That being said, I play with a couple guys who have odd requests about location.... One guy doesn't want anyone behind him... He wants everyone in front of him..... In his vision... He wants to be able to see everybody.... Behind the ball but visible...

I don't indulge him either... He doesn't like to play with me... I'm NOT standing where that tee could end up...

I don't tend to indulge ANY BS on the Golf Course..

Play by yourself or get over it....

We had an old guy in our golf league who was like this, and I'm also in the occasional scramble with another guy who does this. I also don't indulge them if it inconveniences me. I'll follow normal etiquette but I'm not going to walk 30+ ft away everytime it's your shot. The pros hit shots with people SURROUNDING them. I think a normal golfer should be able to deal with three guys standing 15 ft away and standing still.

I've played with some guys who've had some major rabbit ears, but nothing like that. I agree it's too bad you didn't get to play a full 9 with him....could've have been a really epic day.

I don't mind going out as a single. Gives me the opportunity to meet some new golf friends and even if they don't join me up I get to play.

So they set me up with this guy who also showed up as a single and things are going smoothly. He said "if you don't mind I will drive, I am already moved into the cart." Well I didn't care one bit so I moved onto the cart and off we headed to #1. This is when things got a little weird.

We get to the first and I stand up, proceed to pull out my driver, and am completing a little stretching next to the cart. He says "Mind if I take the first honors?" to which I reply "Nope, not at all."

I move onto the tee box well behind him and stand perfectly still. He is lining up his drive and then turns around and says "Would you mind just staying in or next to the cart while I tee off. I find it distracting to have someone else on the tee with me."

Ok...

So I move back over to the cart and he drives one right out of bounds to the right. He then hits another one almost OB and moves to the back of the tee. I figured if I said the same thing to him he might get the point so I ask him "Since you want me near the cart while you are hitting how about you return the favor."

He replies "Well I can see this isn't going to work" and he takes his bag off of the cart and walks off back towards the clubhouse.

I finished playing alone and had a great time. Had not seen him before and I play this course all of the time. And I haven't ever had anyone ask me to "Stay in or near the cart" before. Shadows, movement, and any noise I could understand. Not sure what his real deal was but I was honestly glad we didn't end up playing together. I was about 40 feet behind him by the way - nowhere even close to being in his line of sight. He was just being a DB for some reason. I wonder, if I hadn't told him to return the favor (didn't seem unreasonable given he had asked me to do the same thing) what else he might have done. I guess while he was putting I would have had to wait until he was done putting out before I could come onto the green????

Interesting to say the least.

I don't see that as antagonizing at all. If this weirdo is going to request that his fellow golfers move completely off the tee box and into their carts while he is up, then he sure as hell better be willing to extend the same courtesy. Otherwise he isn't just a weirdo, he's a hypocrite. Don't ask others to do what you are not willing to do yourself. Common courtesy, really.

i play with a guy occasionally that wants to tee off last, putt last everything last. He will have a 20 ft. putt and I will have a 5 footer and it turns into a staring contest. Other than that great guy and love playing with him. Takes alot to bother me on the course, I just go with the flow. Did have a member of our group yell at me when i was coming down with my swing and shanked it into the woods. Thats the only time i remember being mad. I still looked at it like well i probably would of shanked it anyway.

I was thinking the same thing at the time. The man was a player. He hit the ball very well so he should have known better. At the very least he should have brought her out on a weekday afternoon when things were slower. Weekends are never good teaching days. I suspect that 2 holes ended her golf career anyway judging from her reaction to being there at all. You could tell she had 0 interest in playing. That 2 9 iron thing broke my up.

I'm not talking about having a 6 foot putt and there are unmarked balls that are 2 feet from your ball.
I'm talking about having a 35 foot putt with some other unmarked ball(s) on the opposite side of the hole that are 60 feet away and not in one's line of sight.....IMO....if a ball that far away is bothersome...something's wrong.

The tournament was also not like a city or provincial championship....it was a tournament where the gross side of the event has a casual form of handicapping where many times the winners are shooting 95-103.

Yes, I know the proper etiquette is......all balls marked on the green no matter what....but these events take 5.5+ hours.....it's slow enough as it is without having all balls marked or not playing ready golf.

I was in San Diego once and got the chance to go play Balboa. Got paired up with a younger guy and two older guys. The two older guys were replicas of the OP's partner. At one point one of them insisted that I move my bag ( which was on the cart path ) out of his line of sight while he was putting. I just stood there. Everyone had to be completely off the tee box and out of sight before either one of them could hit a shot. One guy commented to the younger guy " you have a decent swing, but you are one of those guys who will never get better". Last straw was when I hit a ball out of the rough and commented " wow this rough is really penal", one of them turned to me and SCREAMED at the top of his voice -- " I will not tolerate hearing your negative thoughts!!" Me and the younger guy walked off the course.
Someday I'll get to play Balboa again-- bummer it got ruined. Took 2 hours to get out, so there was no going back.

First of all, I have very advanced peripheral vision. I could see every annoying little twitch you made while standing 37 feet (not the 40 you claim) behind me. And your shirt was ugly, too.

Secondly, you obviously didn't notice my brand new driver (because you were 37 feet behind me, not the 40 you claim) and my open stance to produce a hard fade. I hit that ball exactly where I wanted to, but, since I knew I'd have to put up with you all day, I hit another one exactly where I wanted to so I could practice my trouble shots with the new blades I just bought.

Then, when I move to the back of the tee to critique your swing so that I can give you helpful advice on every shot you have the nerve to ask me to get in the cart???
What is this world coming too?

you might be a hacker if.... oh wrong thread -

this is simple for everyone, look at ones playing partners chest or back when they play and you are good--- never stand behind anyone playing a shot
you might move, drop a glove, swat an insect etc. and the natural human reaction is that the eye goes to that movement.

I hate the beaters down here in FLA especially the old guys that think they need to stand behind you to track your shot smh lol
