What putter did you just buy ?

OH WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN!!!  Many have seen me bragging about Sub 70 recently which is all true, but it is only fair to share the bad as well.

Bought this putter from Sub 70, was really excited about it for a few reasons.  I have long arms/torso and short legs for my height, plus I putt with my eyes directly over the ball, so as you can imagine, I stand close and have to use a shorter putter because of it. Most retail putters are no good for me because of the lack of head weight needed when you use a 32-33" putter.

This one not only starts at 380g or so, but has a full weight kit included so I knew there was a chance of it being a great fit.  I also hate gimmicky feeling inserts, as I grew up with Ping putters, Bettinardi era Cameron putters, and just prefer the crisp and predictable but soft feel of a milled face.

I need a double bend/face balanced shaft as my stroke is very straight and I saw double bend as one of the many options. Since the price was amazing and the forged wedges and hybrids I ordered were so good, I figured why not try a Sub 70 putter.

Looks - Everything about this is what I like.  Size, shape, deep black, non-glare finish with white site lines that really pop next to the ball. EXUDES CONFIDENCE at address!!!

Feel - Crisp, soft but not mushy or fake feeling like most putters are today, pretty close to perfect if you like older style milled putters

Performance - This is where things got weird!  I know there are many members that will laugh at me owning roughly 150 putters in my life, as some of you have had 1000+ but I consider myself to have a lot of experience in this area, plus putting is the strength of my game. This putter had the strangest balance I have ever seen.  Instead of being face-balanced or having toe-hang, it actually had heel hang.  I'm not even sure if that is a real term, but I knew something wasn't right.  I contacted Sub70 explaining that I thought it would be face balanced, they said that they couldn't get it to there but it was close.  It wasn't!  I started putting and immediately pulled the crap out of every putt I hit.  It was so bad that I made a game out of trying to find some odd way to hold the putter to keep the face from slamming shut.  I even held the face open and tried cutting across the ball and that was about the only way to get the ball to go straight-ish

Sub70 is taking the club back and they are known for amazing customer service.  They also have several different hosel and shaft options so one of them may be better, and this is probably not what to expect with all of their putters, but it was quite the let down none the less.

just got this one as well. Loving it more than my Scotty’s

I haven't hit another putter in 25 years since I bought my Newport in 1998. After my first two rounds with this CW II, the Newport may be heading to the BST.
The Piretti feels better, but more importantly rolls better. And the heavier weight smooths out my stroke.

A few months after I started playing golf, I got a Ping Anser. Putting always seemed to be a least a little bit better (or less bad) than the rest of my game and my teaching pro said my putting stroke was one thing I really didn't need to try to change or improve on. Stuck with that for quite a few years.

Then I went through a long time of trying all sorts of other putters. For a couple decades I might settle on one type for a few months, even a year or two, then move on to something totally different. All sorts of blades, mallets, huge high-MOI beasts, even a couple different Anser variants.

Guess it was around 2016 or 2017 I finally got myself a couple of old bronze Ansers and that's what I use now. I've had very brief dalliances with other putters but the past 2-3 years even that has lost any appeal. It's a putter, make a good stroke and rolls the ball nicely. I've played at least a thousand rounds with some form of Anser and it's just about impossible for anything else to really feel right at this point in my life.

same here. Sadly I’ve got a Scotty collection of headcovers and 16 putters and now I feel like I’m betraying Scotty and should sell all my stuff haha. But the piretti is really that good. I’m making so many more putts which I think is due to the weight and how it feels

So I got this back about a month ago…

Bought an excellent condition NC Gambler for $70 on EBay, sent it out to Siege Customs who filled in the cavity line, put on a new sight line, new black cerakote finish including the shaft. Feels great but now my stroke has decided it doesn’t want to be as strong of course. Really love this though.

Edit: Total cost for putter and refurbishment came in just under $300 which I though was an absolute bargain for a milled putter of this quality.

I was completely wrapped up in sentimentality when I bought an oil can Newport this weekend. Truly cannot wait for it to arrive. It takes me back to my junior and hs golf days. The bonus being that it’s in my spec: 33/350, from a limited AOP release in JP.

I just sold this Scotty a few

weeks ago in a lefty model.  She served me well but it was time to move on.

Those times will come eventually! Although I'm just now about to start gaming this one! Its pristine so I sorta feel bad. Just need to take care of it. It took me forever to find one this nice for the price!

I absolutely love this new wide body blade, more so than the previous.  If I did not pick up the bb46, this was the next one and still might be later this year.  Perfect size and shape to my eye.  A lot of wb get too blocky.

Just got these pics from Mike over at Hudson-Made of my blank Wesley… man I am pumped.

I plan to stamp initials by the dot on the heel and fill with translucent blue. Then let the carbon rust.

Now, to choose a shaft color. Any opinions on chrome or black? Going with the ping blackout grip.
