Quick and dirty review.

Feel: Marshmallow. (I use a FG Tour X, so take that with a grain of salt)

Distance: Lost about half to one whole club.

Greenside: No issues getting this ball to stop. If you can bring back any other ball, you'll have no issues getting this to come back or drop/stop.

Putting: Marshmallow. Put a lot of putts long because the feel was so mushy.

People who will benefit from this ball - Really slow SS and kids. (Actually, I gave this to my four year old, and he's hitting his driver about 10 yards further at the par 3)

I think I read somewhere that these would be $38 a dozen. If that's true, then according to this thread, that will be too much for most folks. $30 a dozen seemed to be the high point for most.

That's nuts. A lot of folks will fall over themselves to play a ProV1 or a Bridgestone at $50 a box, but not play a ball that could be just as comparable for $12 less? Really?

Well then those folks will have their choice of multiple sub-$30 balls that Callaway also offers. Agree with tbowles, it's a tour level ball for $38 retail. I'm pretty excited for that personally.

Interesting comments. Just curious as to what kind of swing speed you have.

I suspect that the Supersoft and Chrome lines brought in the money for Callaway this past year. Callaway has recently come out with a "new and improved" SS with 35 compression and from other's reports the ball makes something of a click when hit, so it is doubtful they are giving up on it. Plus it is a couple of $ more expensive, but still modestly priced. I believe the SS was so succssseful that the Chrome Soft is Callaway's attempt to leverage the Supersoft brand but keep the chrome - the packaging I have seen is a take off on the Supersoft.

Callaway lost me a little bit with all the marketing and blab about this ball. Who exactly is this geared towards? They talk about soft feel with tour level performance but are then they go on to say how this alows the am with a slow swing speed to feel tour level compression. So does this mean it's more geared towards the slow swinger?

Or as someone who typically games prov1x with a D SS of around 115 should I be giving this a serious run and expect it to be all the normal distance but super soft around the greens?

If my information is correct, the Bridgestone factory is the one manufacturing these (as all other Cally balls). They would be the "second" ball manufactured completely in the USA.

As for people paying big bucks for Titleist but whining about the cost of other balls, if the ball works for you and it is the only one you trust, many will pay whatever they want. Then there are the "namers" who play the Pro V or other top ball because it has a certain label on it. As for me, I REFUSE to pay big bucks for "top balls" as I score just as well with the mid range balls. Why pay $40+, or even $35+, when the $30 ball does everything you want out of it?? Besides, The Pro V's just don't do anything to impress me... just depress when they balloon.

I'll try this ball when I see a local rep and he has a demo 2-ball, but I am not going to search it out. Love my Hex Chrome+ and if I want to go higher end, I'll get last year's ball from some top company cheap. If the ball is too soft (like the Duo) I find it flies strange and doesn't go anywhere off the tee.

I am going to try it out tomorrow. Played the Chrome+ and now SR2. I am unsure how the Chrome Soft is supposed to differ from the Chrome or even the SR1? The Chrome was too spongy and the Chrome+ was longer than it. Interested to see how it compares.

My pro got a dozen of these for demo -- blank box w/o labeling. I took one to the course yesterday to give it a try and I was extremely impressed. It plays just a bit firmer than the SS -- a ball I really like about everywhere except putting. The feel off the driver isn't quite as mushy yet you do feel it compress. For me the Chrome Soft was longer that the SS and just as straight. In fact, I hit two of my longest drives (all carry) of the fall season. Course conditions are soft so there was no roll out. Around the green this ball spins nicely but not crazy. Plenty for drop and stop or some draw back. Off the putter it performs much better than the Super Soft. Very predictable without that "whoa, what happened there?" explosion off the face. I liked the feel. Price point will determine if this is my new ball but came off the course thinking that I need to get a couple of dozen of these. Callaway has a winner here!

This all sounds great to me. I too am a big fan of the SS except in short sided times. I have a dozen Chrome Softs on the way. Should be here next week. As soon as they arrive I will be taking them out. I'll report back with my findings.

Been playing this ball last couple months, 5-6 rounds in with it. It will replace the Chrome +/SR3 for me. Blows the cover off SR3(firm), and peforms as good as the Chrome + for me, but feels softer by a large margin. NOT Marshmellow...that would be the Supersoft....just softer than the Chrome +. Feel is there on all shots and control is excellent. It will not fix a bad swing, but it does seem to reduce the side spin a touch for the slight fade or draw vs the mid fade or mid draw. I find I flight it a bit lower than Chrome + for me and get that nice penetrating 13.5-14* LA with my 5-8 yard fade...lowish spin off driver as it runs pretty well at impact. Putting and chipping feel like you are tossing the ball to the hole for me...a lot of control and consistency.

just my results.

Will be the ball for me next year.

Usually in the 105-108 range overall. I don't see any spin increase in the driver, if anything maybe a little less...just seems to come off with a nice mid-high flat trajectory and really holds its line well, no obvious lift from spin.

Got a dozen yesterday. As with all new balls the first testing is in the house. Chipping and putting are the best I have ever tried, again in the house but I chip and put every day in the house so I have a good feel how the balls will react. Outdoor testing soon.

I have to Agree on the Chrome +. I found this ball 3 months ago and have been playing it ever since. In my opinion it spins just as much as the ProV1x I like playing and it feels really good off all clubs. It is not the cheapest out there, but at $30 a dozen it is a very good buy!!!

Wonder how the Chrome soft will be for a driver swing speed of 115 or so. That is my average swing speed and sometimes I get a little steep with the driver and can be pretty high spin at times. If this is a softer compression ball so I wonder if a higher swing speed will compress it too much and balloon off the driver?

My absolute favorite ball is the TM Project (a) but it balloons and spins a lot off of my driver. I hope the Chrome Soft will not have those characteristics and be okay for a higher swing speed player.
