J13's WITB: Update- FUJIKURA AXIOM

Recommended Posts

Nike flex was ok for me but kept going left. The SZ is light years better then the VFP.

That became evident very quickly today.

I think I am done trying to knock it out of the bag. My only other thought is an M1 430, but not interested in paying the prices they are still fetching currently. I am not sure I could get on with the M2, as I have never really gotten along well with 460 heads. I would like to hit one though.

If it knocked out the SZ, it must be something special.

I'm glad that I came across this thread and more specifically, your testing of the M2 vs M1 430 8.5. I have an M2 that I have been hitting better than any driver yet the "wandering golfwrx eye" has been tempting me to try out an M1 430 8.5 to see how that would compare. It seems that what I observed visually in terms of the lowish spin + excellent carry in my own drives was similar to what you observed in your testing. Thanks for the insights.

The wandering eye is a dangerous and expensive thing. Glad to help honestly the m1 430 8.5 head wasnt' spinning enough for me but what a great looking head. M2 is giving me killer results so I'd say stick with it and have fun. Maybe play around with some shafts.

Did you try a 430 9.5 head? Curious how that would have compared to the m2. The m1 460 vs m2 produced similar results for me as what you encountered.

I played with loft a bit but with my 8.5 head. I hit some nice shots with it just felt like I had to work to hard.

I think the SZ is a special head but what Cally is coming out with next will be epic so for now the M2 fits the bill :D

Mizzy Mp'5's are nice. I'm a big mizuno fan and played the 64's for a while. I played Ctapers as well but moved on to the Modus line after a fitting a few years ago. As for the putter it's nothing fancy just something I like the alignment on. It's the Odyssey V-line which like the 7 is a face balanced mallet so it should be a little easier to square up which is the main issue i've been having. Not saying the #2 is def out but something needs to change quick because i'm losing shots on the course and it's costing me money :D

As for the Driver testing i'm all done. Update tonight on that when i get home i've just been swamped with work and family stuff.

I'm a firm believer in having at least one other putter in the "on deck" position. They need to know they can be replaced if they get to misbehaving.

As much as I love the look of a nice milled blade, I putt better with face balanced putters. My #7 made it back in the bag a couple weeks back and has been great.

I have a V-Line in my collection and I think you will like that.

What is Callaway coming out with next, besides the Fusion?

I've already said too much ;)

TI M2 10.5 w/ Tensei White 70TX here. Best driver I have ever hit and by quite a stretch.

It's a stupid good combo

Yeah I agree. In the past I just got rid of them but I realize after buying and selling the same putter 2 or 3 times that I need to keep a small stable of different types of putters so I don't go on a bender. That way I can rotate when needed to keep things moving along. In fact I bought a new one today lol.

Okay the testing is over for driver/shaft combo and also the 3 wood / shaft combo. Short and sweet:

M2 (tour issue) 9.2* with Xphlexxx Agera is the winner

3 wood. - M2 (tour issue) 15.4* with Tensei White 80TX

Okay so why?

Driver was Tensei White 60TX vs Agera - I really really really like the Tensei White CK Pro but it came down to which shaft produced better dispersion. Agera won hands down mainly because it doesn't go left for me. The Tensei white feels a little smoother but I had a left miss and right miss with it and after 6 or so rounds I knew it was an issue. The Agera is either straight or slight right which is exactly what I want. I'm guessing the stiffer tip section in the Agera is causing this.

Feel : Tensei smoother

Distance: Agera

Dispersion : Agera

Launch : Both about the same

Spin: Both around the same for me

So 3 wood was Alpha 816 vs M2 (tour head)

M2 tour head is a BEAST. I tried the retail head and hated it but for some reason the tour head is money. The 816 Alpha has been a GREAT performer for me but it tends to spin a little to much off the tee which is the only downside for me. The m2 is a CANON off the tee launching the ball way up there with almost no spin. No doubt the Tensei white 80TX is helping in that department but still it's about 10-12 yds longer for me over the 816 which is most likely coming from the lower spin. From the deck the m2 gets the ball in the air no problem but tends to grab a bit in the turf whereas the 816 Alpha has a much easier time staying on top of the grass. Overall the m2 is one of the few fwy woods that is great off the tee and fairway so this might be a keeper for a good long while.

Dispersion : Both really good

Distance : M2

Turf Interaction : 816 Alpha

Sound: M2

Feel : both really good but M2 sounds like a wooden bat so yeah M2

Overall there ya go, last few things I'm messing with is the putter and so far the Ketsch has been pretty good just have to get used to the heavier weight. I'll keep things updated for those that care.

I just saw that BST ad...

The M2 tour issue stuff must be something special to knock the SZ and Alpha out. You better check that hybrid next.

The m2 tour driver head is not any different then the retail head other then weight and face and lie angle. I used a demo head for a while with great success as well but it had an open face as well. The 3 wood is very different for me then retail.

Yeah Big T Vline looks great I just think the Katsch is more stable for me.

Well.. the 8.5 is tour only, and your head comes with lighter weights and flatter lie, more open FA on stock std settings and allows for probably 8g hot melt to dial in to perfection.

Correct but I wanted a 9* head in the neutral setting so the first head I found at that loft was a 9.5 head which is what I grabbed, it's actually 9.2* which is close enough to what I wanted. The feel and sound is perfect with 2* open face and great lie angle, not super upright like so many on the rack. I got a blank head in the wrapper with specs so I hotmelted to my desired weight and bias which is the only way IMO to get a tour head.

Awesome to see the results of your test!

Haha no prob

Nice setup! I might have tot try to snag an M2 3HL tour model. I like my M1 3HL, but prefer that wooden bat feel that you are referring to.

I found it much better then the M1 fwy wood. The feel and sound is amazing (keep in mind it has melt as well in it)

Do you think the lighter weight on the tensei affected dispersion? What length were you playing it at?

I thought about that but the difference in shaft weights is only about 5-6g's. Thing is do I spend more money and get a 70tx ? Not sure I will or think it's worth it we will see. I do think the Tensei is an awesome shaft and highly recommend people trying them. Mitsu is one of the best in the biz and makes one heck of a shaft. Loving my 80tx Tensei white in the 3 wood

Forgot to mention I hit the Titleist 917 line, nothing extensive but did hit them on the LM. Overall not impressed and won't hit them again. Love the color but the D2 is such an odd shape and the D3 just doesn't look very forgiving.

Down and dirty

D3 - Good shape, good color, spin was around 2000, ball speed was about 3-4mph behind my M2. D3 wasn't nearly as forgiving or long

D2 - Shape awful, color same as D3, spin low 2000's, ball speed same as D3.

Full disclosure - I hit all offerings with stock X flex shafts and also didn't have time to mess with adjustments much, but ..... Just to compare apples to apples I grabbed a stock m2 Demo with.some Fuji stock junk shaft and it gave me better numbers then the Titleist so take from that what you will. Love the color of the new Titleist though well done. They always seem to be about 2-3 years behind in drivers and this release isn't any different.

That's good to hear and seems to be the exception as most I've talked to have gotten the same results as the 915 but slightly better numbers on mishits. Obviously your a big Titleist guy but if I were you though I would try the TM and Cally stuff. Ball speed much higher with both lines at least that's what I've seen as well as many other players I play with. Never hurts to try :D

I know M2 head weight has been discussed here but how much performance difference did you see between the different weighted heads? The M2 that I have is 195g and I dislike the feel and am not impressed with the results. It just feels light. I have an M1 that's 200g and a Flex 440 that's also 200g. I hear so many good things about the M2 that I am wondering if the experiment would be worthwhile.

I'm guessing 195 without the adapter? My Tour head was 191g without the adapter and that's with a 4g weight in the back whereas most retail has 2g. I would recommend you either get some heavier weights to play with or get it hotmelted. Also not sure what shaft you have in the head but it seems to come alive with a super low spin shaft. Tensei white and Agera both fit that bill and it's been OUTSTANDING.
