J13's WITB: Update- FUJIKURA AXIOM

Fusion doesn't look to bad actually! This driver has my interest.

 

I just got one of those Blue SNSR grips too in 104cc. I agree, it feels great in the hands, super soft. Glad I bought one, I almost got another SS.

 

Blue SNSR grip is LEGIT. I was playing the SS Pistol GT and was about to try another SS as well. Glad I took a chance at something different.

 

 

The online reviews of the Fusion are very interesting with a range of views in relation to spin/launch, all of which makes me think that this is a driver thar really does need to be well fit. The biggest theme in the reviews however is that this is extremely forgiving and has amazing feel/sound. Any thoughts on the forgiveness?

 

 

Which is why YouTube reviews are not reliable. I honestly didn't think much about the Fusion until I hit it on the LM. I was extremely surprised at 3 things

1. Distance

2. Feel/Sound

3. Spin being in a playable range for

 

I love everything about it ( with the right shaft) except the look!

I'm more tuned in for the M2 vs Fusion because the M2 has been a revelation for me. I can't imagine anything beating it on distance and forgiveness, but I'd be giddy as a schoolgirl if the Fusion did just that!

 

I snagged a SNSR Blue regular size grip off the BST the other day. It's going on a Tour Bronze #7 or perhaps a Ping Oslo.

As for Fusion vs M2 I think I have my answer but I have a big 36 hole match on Sunday that is filled with 24 top amateurs from Philly to D.C. That will help solidify my decision. Nothing replaces hitting a club under the gun.

It feels and sound good but I only had a stock shaft to work with which wasn't a very good fit for me. Hard to give it an honest go without being able to use a shaft that fits me.

For me it's all about the results on the course. Numbers on a tablet only tell me so much before you have to drop a peg in the ground with some cash on the line.

Glad to see you give the mizzy a chance. Personally I wouldn't pay the 5 bills for one given their track record. Actually who do they think they are charging 500 for a driver? Still intrigued though...

It is bright but it's much better then the Nike Volt blue IMO. I like the matte finish to it as well. I agree on price, kinda hard to break into that $500 driver market with such a poor track record with woods. Plus it's hard to test as there aren't many shafts in the fitting cart if any. IMO Titleist does the best job of shaft offerings and demo stock availability. Callaway and TM are good but not Titleist good in that regard.

Callaway will be in the bag tomorrow for the tourney. I'm hitting it too well to pull right now plus I already know what the M2 can do under pressure. It will be interesting.

How did the Fusion fare?

 

So yesterday went well and I won my first match 7&5 then second match 2&1. Overall my team won and retained the cup for another year which was pretty cool. The Fusion was in play for both rounds which really helped me make my decision as nothing can replace pressure in a match. With all of that said the winner and stilll champ is the TaylorMade M2. When the heat got turned up the Fusion started turning left. It's a draw bias head which for many can really help but for me when I start to get quick it was hard to control. I started compensating and blocking shot which turned into a real $%it show off the tee. I'm not saying every drive was bad because I did hit some BOMBS but I had to work really hard to keep my ball on line and when the pressure gets ratcheted up I tend to get quick which doeesn't jive well with a draw bias head.

Distance : Very Very close maybe slight edge to Fusion

So M2 stays in the bag.... With that said I'm really looking forward to the Epic driver coming. Trying the new carbon crown in both the SZ and Fusion has me excited to try a driver more in my wheel house that's low/mid spin and 460cc. Also hearing the news TM driver will incorporate even more carbon so that will be a must try as well :D Onward we go

Congratulations on the wins!!! Match play is my favorite style of comp.

 

I like the M2 because if it has any tendency to move on me, it is a baby fade. And it's a long baby fade! I can work it left, but I have to really try. Straight to right is the go-to shot with the M2 for me. Having fought the left side of the course with my previous two drivers, I greatly prefer the shape of the M2. Like it so much, I bought the matching fairway. Now if I could only find a set of irons that I like as much as the M2 driver!?!?!

Just a thought on the Fusion, you could take a stock left handed adapter, set it at +2 and that would give you -2 hence opening it up a bit more. I believe the tour authentic adapters have open and + open settings as well. Might be worth a try.

I highlighted a key component. Feel and sound are subjective. I had a hard time adjusting to the feel and sound of the Cobra LTD coming from Ping G30 and G LS. But hitting fairways "sounds" a lot better than hitting in the trees. I will sacrafice distance and feel and looks all day to hit more fairways. I see that list and say the M2 is the clear winner for J all day.

Thought about it but the more I start to open a face the more I get in trouble with a block right. I'm sure I could eliminate some left out of it but I don't want to add any right either.

M2 hits more fairways and doesn't go left. Fusion is a great stick but not a great fit for my swing especially when my tempo gets quick in a match. I need help in that area so a face closing down is no good.

not a problem. I actually preferred the tour authentic adapters to the ones used now. the adjustments made more sense to me.

On a side note the one thing I did notice with the Fusion that I liked is the trajectory. A little higher then the M2 resulting in more carry. Might try to add some loft to my head or possibly a 10.5 head with about 10* loft in a neutral setting.

No it's not but its a nice perk.

 

Still can't say enough about the Golf Pride Sensor grip for my putter. They did a great job with designing it. Fits so well into the palm of my hand I find i'm holding the putter with less pressure which is always a good thing.
