So I got off the ship for a few hours tonight and what should ai find waiting for me!?!

A Scratch 6i demo graciously offered by 3 Jack Par! I swung it exactly twice and all I can say is WOW! The practice swing felt good...too good. I took a nice easy swing at the sacrifice nitro that I figured I'd never see again anyway and BahZING!!! Soft as butter BEAUTIFUL fade into the neighbors yard for 140 after a trip through the tops of the pine trees at the property line. The best part was being invited over to enjoy a few Bourbons by same neighbor afterward. Sweet shot followed by smoother shots. Winner's circle finish for the day! Thanks for your generous donation and support of a budding blade ho!

Back to blades again. Last set was mp68. Now I'm back but with taylormade TP MB 2014. They have a kbs tour shaft. I really like how they feel. If you remember ram tour grinds the MB has a similar kind of lively butter thing going on that I like. Guess it's the shaft, my old rams had Brunswick precision 6.5. The kbs isn't as stiff but it does has a lively feel that I like.

Oh dear, I've got another iron purchase on the way, and it's one I was wilfully led into by a prominent poster in this thread. Yes, I'm looking at you, Bigmean

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I've decided to pull and dispose of the shafts from the Ram Camber Soles, which I was going to do anyway, in order to reduce the number of visible sets. I might have to secretly shift a set to the office as well :pimp:

Got my TM MB's reshafted with modus 130x and all I can say is wow! Feels really good to have a consistent 2-3 baby draw oppose to my unmanageable 15 power draw that I couldnt do on a consistent bases. I'd go to my near by indoor sim on lunches a couple times a week and I'd have misses from each side of the fairway. No way you're going to go low with those sort of misses. With how quickly I saw positive change, I can't believe I played s300 shafts for close to 2 years. This really just brought everything together for my irons and game. Looking forward to playing with these shafts all summer and getting them in the next set of blades.

For those of you who don't follow Miuragolf on Instagram, you should. Beautiful pic of some baby blades in a matte black finish with lime green paint fill this morning. They appear to have a black shaft and black grips too. Very sleek looking.

Driver - TM Mini BRNR 11.5, HZRDUS Smoke Black 6.5

3i-PW - TM P7MB, KBS Tour X

Wedges - Vokey SM9 (52, 56, 60) all M grinds

Happy to add these period correct Drivers to the rotation of irons I will break out this Spring.

Both the Wood Bros and King Cobras (fairways too) are N.O.S.

Not ruling out adding a new Driver, thinking of the Cobra F7+ (matte black ) but I am intrigued to swing shorter, steel shafted woods that compliment the heft of traditional irons nicely.

Cannot wait for courses to open.

Cheers.

Nice Wood Bros driver!

I recently bought a Slazenger persimmon driver off Yahoo! Auction, and took it to the range today...couldn't get it in the air to save my life. Also, it felt really dead, even on ones I thought I had middled. I hope it's the range balls, but to be honest, the range I went to today uses fairly easy balls to elevate. I think part of the problem was that I wasn't loading the steel shaft right, but I don't remember persimmon being this hard to hit! Mind you, the last time I hit a persimmon driver was in about 1990...

Oh yeah, I also took the Honma PP 737 4i, 8i, and 11i (54*) to the range today, to hit alongside my VIPs. Got to say, I wasn't that impressed. The VIPs felt way better. Also, the DGS200 shafts in the Hondas do tend to exaggerate my draw (read: "hook"). But it was the sound/feel that was disappointing. Felt kind of tinny. Might be due to them being cast (though the material is described as "soft iron"), but I have hit more recent cast blades (Akira Prototypes and Honma TW BM) and they felt alright. Have there been big advances in the casting process in the last 30 years?

Only now do I realize I've always wanted an oil-hardened persimmon driver with a sole plate the size of Texas. Or at least, the shape of Texas. In my dorky golf mind, this sits well within the domain of the really cool.

Well, here's the iron purchase I was talking about: MacGregor MT Tourneys R58s, 3i to SW. I think these were made for the Japanese market some time in the early Nineties.

Shafted with Brunswick FM 6.5 shafts.

I really don't need another set of irons right now, but these were too good to pass up. Well, I said that about the Honmas, but I might be getting rid of those.

R58s. Sweet. I was hitting these a few months back against my Hogan Redlines and they were just as pure, and long. The only problem is I already have 4-5 sets of blades I have to put in to play and I they`ve got the 5.5 FCMs. Have you taken them out yet?

For me it`s either Founders 200s, Bridgestone Proismes, Redlines or MT R58s to get a shaft upgrade first. And I`ve also got Dunlop DP-30s, Conductor 41CXs and Sounder SB IVs that seem to fit alright with the shafts they have. I am going to hold onto maybe three of these sets. Every time the wife goes outside she lets me know she doesn`t like the boxes on top of the storage box we got last summer. A box that contains about 6-7 other sets.

And, right now I`m really really leaning toward bagging the Taylormade protos in my signature. They might just be the end of the line for a few years.

I thought you bought a set of these as well, C_T_S.

I have a similar problem to you, but I saw these had been reduced and came with a shaft I could play, so I jumped at them. I now need to wear out some of the iron sets I have, rather than buy any new ones.

The Taylormade X300s are a rare find. Did you find them locally? I think your secondhand shops have more hidden gems than the one near me, though I pretty happy with what I've got.

You know sometime last year or the one before, my buddy let me swing his Titleist persimmon on the course. I was quite surprised by how well it worked. I really liked how easy it was to feel the head throughout. I think the shaft was R300 and the shaft on the Texan is that also. I would prefer S300 but maybe it was the shaft that gave it the great feel and results. Interested to take it to range as soon as the snow and weather lets up.

Hah! Good point, though I don't actually raise my bid often.

I did get outbid at the last moment on a Mizuno persimmon driver recently that I was a bit miffed about, because I think it was the same type that I used as a junior (and was stolen from me).

Anyway, I'm going to stay away from Yahoo Auction for a while. Honest, Guv!

Fellow blade users - just wanted to keep it going and let you know I made another switch in the bag LOL. Moved on from the Nike VR Pro blades and now rocking the 716 MBs. Got them a few weeks ago from a fellow WRX member.

Couldn't be happier with the feel. I guess my word sucks though since I've been through quiet a few iron sets since joining this thread. For what it's worth I love them. Been taking the MBs to the range and started to notice I was slowly leaving the AP2s at home (usually bring both to compare). My Nike blades are forgotten and will pop up on the bay very soon LOL.

Updated my WITB yesterday as I think the MBs will be the gamers this season. Don't quote me on that btw lol. 716 MBs are my jam as of 3/16/17 - cheers

So here's a cool story for a Friday afternoon, our Sunshine Tour Q school just finished and the guy who came second is a member of my club! Played a bit of golf with him back before he headed over to the US for college golf and now here is is finishing 2nd at Q School! Another mate of mine also made it to the final round but unfortunately missed out on his card but I'm not counting him out just yet, the guy can play...

In other news It's our Club Champs this weekend, swinging the club nicely so I'm looking for a good finish!

Jonesy, you must be coming to the end of your season down there, right?

What's the name of the guy who qualified for the Sunshine Tour? Won't that give him some sort of playing privileges on the European Tour, as they swing down to South Africa (do they go anywhere else, or just SA?) during the European winter?

Hit it well in your CC tomorrow!

We golf year round hey NoCatchy, especially here where I stay, a bad day in winter here is maybe 12*C (50*F?) with clear skies. I can spend most of winter in a shirt, shorts and slops, maybe throw on a jacket in the evening. :D

Martin Rohwer, very solid golfer. I'm not too sure what he actually gets for his finish, I imagine he get's into the co-sanctioned events but as far as I know they aren't here until the Nedbank Challenge in November... But he may qualify for next years co-sanctioned events.

Thanks! hoping to have a solid finish!

Damn, you've got better weather than we have.

I'll try to watch out for the guy from your club during the Sunshine Tour swing in winter, because a lot of that is shown on the Golf Channel in Japan and I get to watch a fair bit of it.

Let us know how your tournament goes; this thread has been pretty quiet recently and no one seems to be in it. We need more golf stories!!

this thread has been pretty quiet recently and no one seems to be in it. We need more golf stories!!

Still in the preseason anxiety mode here, after having played on March 5th, but not being able to since then.

Just for you, Catchy, I'll post an idea percolating in the back of my brain. Dangerous, for sure. LOL

I have a set of Vibration Matched Golden Rams, 1-PW. They currently have Rifle 6.5 shafts (for 2-pw, the 1 iron has Precision 7.0), which were something of an experiment for me at the time. I've come to not be enthralled with Rifle shafts, and haven't played this set more than a couple times over the last four or five years.

When I was still in the insane shaft loading period of my golf life, I picked up a set of DGX300 iron shafts from one of the component sellers (still have a PX 7.0 7 iron shaft lying around, too). I think I have 2-PW, such as I remember it. Well, in the time since the OMG Shaft Load years, I don't know that I need DGX300 shafts any longer. I've been wondering what to do with them.

Well, something finally occurred to me. In the world of Dynamic and Dynamic Gold iron shafts, there is a 2" difference in tip section between each flex. I've always felt my game is more of an S/X tweener than suited to either flex. It seems to me, then, that I have a good opportunity to double softstep my DGX shafts to achieve this in between flex.

In the theory behind the weight sorted subflexes for DG, they say the lighter weights (DGX100, anyone) will be slightly softer, due to the slightly less material in the shaft walls, as evidenced by that lighter weight. I've seen frequency evidence that suggests this may well be true, generally speaking. While X100 is the frequently sold product for Xstiff iron shafts, using this theory, it may be a bit softer than the midpoint of Xstiff in DG shafts. X300 *is* that midpoint.

Why not, they're only shafts, right? LOL

My idea, such as it is, is to double softstep the 2-8 irons in the X300 to fill 4-PW, I picked up a 1 iron shaft to cover the 3 iron, and then use DGS300 3 and 4 iron shafts in a double hardstep for the 1 and 2 irons.

I'm also thinking I'll go with even, 4° gaps, from the 2 iron at 20° to the PW at 52°, and add only a 58° wedge on top of it. Thinking I'll just stick with the standard 17° 1 iron loft, but have toyed with taking it to 16° to have 4° gaps covering 1-PW.

The fun part will be pulling the shafts from the 10 clubs. OK, not so fun. LOL

...this thread has been pretty quiet recently and no one seems to be in it. We need more golf stories!!

This thread may be quiet, but I'm for sure in it!

I'm in San Diego on vacation. I brought my travel set with my mp67s. Played Mt. Woodson...wow what a tight and changing elevation course! I got beat up on the back with a 41-48, taking a 10 on #10. I did hit four iron shots to inside 10 ft which felt really good. I executed the shots perfectly. They were with a 4i, 5i, 7i, and 8i. I only made the 5 ft 8i putt, though. It could have been a decent round but for the 10 on #10 and three 7s. The 10 started with a perefect drive to set up a routine 53* 90yd shot that I shanked OB. A shank never even crossed my mind so I was shell shocked from it for that hole and the next two.

Playing Lomas Santa Fe CC today with my Dad on his 79th birthday. LOL he's going to make me feel guilty because I didn't bring my Miuras for him. But it will be a good Mizzy day. He has some mp32s that I bought for him and I have my 67s.

I'm really enjoying the 67s and not really missing my Miuras. The 67s are like and old comfy pair of slippers that I just can't stop using. I split hairs that they just don't feel as solid as my Miuras but they flat out perform for me. I gamed them for 10 years and know them so well. LOL such a good 'quaternary' set.
