Those are my feelings as well. almost impossible to image he makes his return under the scrutiny and spotlight of a major at Augusta where a suspect short game, or even the fear of it, can produce huge embarrassing numbers.

I'm not sure how you gain the confidence he clearly lost by playing practice rounds and hitting chips on the back yard Green complex. If he does and he plays well then all the credit in the world to him. I just don't see it.

In 2013 Crenshaw shot 80-84 and was 1 removed from DFL. In 2014 he shot +24 and was DFL by 7 shots. This year he announces it's his last Masters.

Not too difficult to figure out.

Pretty sure the Masters committee didn't forced gentle Ben Crenshaw out because he had two bad showings. Ben Crenshaw is the epitome of class and what the Masters pretends/hopes to represent.

That's why the committee Chose to pair him with the 14 year old Asian kid rom the 2013 masters. To make that kid as comfortable as possible.

So it is "difficult to figure out" the point you are trying to make. As usual.

To ease the pain of whapping him with a stroke penalty, it seems.

So, the Masters has several times suggested that past pros no llonger play if they are not competitive. Sometimes they "suggest" harder than other times.

So it does happen. It became very public when they suggested that Jack, the greatest Major Champion of all time, forgo his playing privileges. And I don't blame them. Ben and The Walrus, probably the nicest guys in the world, but it's painful to watch them take up room shooting double digits over par.

Then again, it isn't my tournament and I usualy have cynical things to say about The Masters, so I'll just leave it at that.

There comes a time when you need to accept that you can't play up to a certain standard. Sadly, Crenshaw is there and will most likely become an honorary starter sometime.

He can WD anytime including the week of but he can't fail to commit/register and then play.

I think Tiger was lying when he said he had hit thousands of chips, and thats why he was playing poorly

But now that he practices seriously i dont see why he would fail to recover from the bad chips, if it was indeed from a lack of practice

I just hope his back will hold up for a couple years to come, but i know it wont, especially in the long run

If no one has reported seeing Tiger up at Augusta playing a practice round, I'd say he's a no-go for the Masters.

Considering what's transpired over the last 8-10 months, a t30 would be freaking huge and might do wonders for his confidence...
Agreed. A t30 would be a huge step in the right direction.

Actually, the more I think about it, t30 would be immeasurably huge...

At ANGC? Yeah, huge for his confidence..

I know it's looking like he won't play, but I won't believe it until it's announced.

And if he really doesn't, I'd be shocked. That would tell me he really does have the full-blown yips... Or even that there's something to some of the darker rumors that have been out there.

I don't care if you're Tiger, no one can expect to arrive in Augusta competitively cold, tee it up and expect a good outcome.
He did in 2010 and was T4. So it is possible.
I agree, if anyone can show up cold and contend at the masters it's Tiger and he's gotta be at least warm right now :p . He wasn't suspected of having the chipping yips in 2010 though, might be a little tougher this time around but 2010 wasn't exactly a good time mentally either.

I honestly think that he will use all this negative talk as motivation. He did after all win the us open on a broken leg with zero reps since the masters. To hear hank haney talk about the weeks leading up to that us open, he was absolutely awful. I expect to see him at the masters and to be in contention on Sunday.
Do you really think he needs any EXTRA motivation? Don't you think that not having won a major since 08, at Augusta since 05, numerous withdrawals and missed cuts as of late and his tumbling in the rankings is enough?

If anyone can come back, it's him. But to say you expect him to be in contention come Sunday is more the fan in you speaking then based on reality. Nothing as of late would suggest he's capable of contending...

I suppose stranger things have happened...
