I know it's looking like he won't play, but I won't believe it until it's announced.

And if he really doesn't, I'd be shocked. That would tell me he really does have the full-blown yips... Or even that there's something to some of the darker rumors that have been out there.

I may have misheard the rumor. But who needs facts in a TW thread right?!

Is it bad that I miss Jonesy? The guy was some kind of special, but I have to be honest, at no other point in time than when he was first posting have I been more excited to check WRX! Those were the days man. Those were the days....

After reading the thread, I somehow automatically read this post in Ringo Starr's voice to the tune of The No-No Song

That was really far out, man

Tiger doesn't have to say anything to be relevant. He is no matter what. Tiger playing, or not playing, in the Masters will be the biggest story leading up to Augusta. He doesn't have to say a single word because most of the attention will be on him no matter what until he says he's not playing, then attention will die down slowly after, or when he says he will be playing and the attention will increase significantly.

Tiger has to do nothing to stay "relevant."

My prediction is that he arrives at ANGC, announces in a huge presser that he is not going to play, attends the champions dinner, then goes home. This will make the actual tournament irrelevant. All media will be in a lather to come up with some new Tiger analysis, with the 2015 winner mentioned only in passing.

Once people like yourself accept that he's no longer a factor, he'll be relegated to being a once-great.

Tiger has not said anything publicly for weeks other than the "not playing in the Bay Hill event" comment and yet the media and 3jacker himself continue to discuss him. I would say that makes him relevant. And by the way Jack and Arnie have not played for years but what they say is still relevant to the world of golf.

Agreed. He hasn't said boo to anyone. But people still want to talk about him. THAT alone makes him relevant.

No, he's just a golfer. However, deciding someone is no longer a factor is not up to any one of us. If they think can feel they can keep going, that's on them. Look at Duval? Thinks he can play. Daly? Heck, look as far as Mickelson. He's quickly becoming an afterthought. But of course, you can't say that, of you'll incur the wrath of Phil fans everywhere. But if guys think they can still do it, who am I to judge?

While I think Phil is relevant, and I know you do too, don't forget he hasn't had a top ten in more than a year and a half I believe.

That's my point. I don't think he's done, but he's gotten to be pretty inconsistent. No one can do this thing forever and guys slide down all the time. We're acting as if age and health only affects one or two guys. As they saying goes, time is undefeated.

Let's say Tiger plays in the Masters and wins it this year. Would it surpass Jack's '86 Masters performance as the greatest of all time? It would certainly rank up there with it and Tiger's own 1997 Masters victory. IIRC, Jack entered the Masters as an underdog and everyone in the media had written his career off. A win by Tiger next week might be the greatest victory of his career, even the US Open he won on a broken leg.

It would certainly rank up there with it and Tiger's own 1997 Masters victory. IIRC, Jack entered the Masters as an underdog and everyone in the media had written his career off. A win by Tiger next week might be the greatest victory of his career, even the US Open he won on a broken leg.
[/quote]No. Just cause he wants to jet set around to follow Lindsay or be with his kids (neither are which are wrong) instead of practice would not make this win on those levels.

I think microdiscectomy surgery and chipping yips aren't quite the same as jet setting w/ Lindsay and being with your kids. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.
