currently on a trip to the northern tip of Cebu Island, where cellular signal is nearly as foreign as most of the (Korean) guests of the hotel and the courses... so I had to track my scoring pretty well using the scorecard, and enter in to Hole19 just now, at 4am waiting for the sun to come up to go play at a neighbor course before the rain comes down...

ANYWHOOooooooo...

yesterday now was a bear, as I played the best 9 in well over 10 years (39); Queen's is pretty wide open, lotsa water but the front is fairly easy to stroke, and my score reflected that. But what really gets my goat, is that had my putter been on, I woulda broke 80 today, EASY. I counted at least 6 or 7 lip outs alone, not including the ones that just stopped at the lip or rolled past on the lip, I mean I was easily 10-12 putts over, from an inch out MADDENING...

anyway here's the card...

Walked Torrey South and the fog was think and unrelenting. It cleared up for about 7 holes and then came rolling back in, again. Shot a 91, couldn't get the big dog barking, today. Only two FIRs and GIRs all day. Course took my lunch money in the rough. Still was a great time.

I felt really good about that shot....
Until I hit it.

I misjudged the conditions for the first 4 holes and was 3 over.

Hit the ball really nicely for the rest of the round (other than 2 drives) and brought it home in -1 for a 74.

Overall, very happy. Had I been thinking better (early in the round and on those two drives), this could have been in the 60's.

Followed up my 84 from yesterday with an 83 today.

My scores have dropped from the high 90's to the low 80's pretty much overnight due to the lightbulb coming on Thursday evening as to how you're supposed to swing a golf club.

So you'd think I'd be really happy, correct?

Mostly, but considering I shot 3 over on the front today, I had breaking 80 square in my sights as I started the back nine. However, it wasn't to be as I shot 8 over on the back.

The good thing is, this doesn't feel like a fluke or a "Works Only One Day" thing, as I truly feel like I have a ton of control over my shots now, to the point that I'm thinking about how to give myself birdie chances now as I'm playing each hole.

The kids both started baseball and the weather has been uncooperative, so I haven't really had a chance to get any golf in. I found myself with just enough time to squeeze 9 in this afternoon. I got to the course with about 5 minutes to spare. I hit a couple putts, stretched out for a minute and I was off. The course was very soft but the greens were in great shape. I drove the ball incredibly well today, but my iron play was not as sharp as I would have liked. I shot a 38 while hitting every fairway and 6/9 greens with 15 putts. All in all, I was pretty pleased with my game. I didn't really make anything, but had good putts all day. I had several good opportunities but just couldn't get anything to drop. I made a pretty bad mistake on 3 which led to a double, but other than that, I really didn't have much to complain about other than missed opportunities.

I came up just short on an uphill 20 footer on 1 and just missed an 8 footer on 2. I also had a par save on 4 lip out. After a really nice tee shot that never left the flat, I ended up with a good look on 6. It was an uphill 12 footer that looked good for a long time, but just curled at the end and missed. The longest made putt of the day was on 8 - it was a 4 footer for par after my first putt came up well short. 9 was another good hole as I hit a perfect drive, then 3w to just short of the green. My chip shot for eagle just missed and ended up settling about a foot past the hole, finished with a tap in birdie.

i like tracking my shots much better when there's a cellular signal, so this trip failed on that account, but scoring carefully with the card is getting interesting...

ANYWAYYYYyyyyy....

The putter arrived over night it appears. Fewest putts = lowest score in about 15 years. The big stick has become reliable, short and straight but reliable. Wedge play is what kinda had me sucking wind, but 30 putts? I'll take 'em!

Had a mantra all day about 2nd shots and 1st putts, and mister 5 wood and his iron friends made the first part sing, and only a few lipped out for I think two 3-putts...

a bit of a post-script: not as happy as I thought I'd be... I wonder if this is a sign of things to come where even lower scores don't elicit excitement as much as meeting expectations... who knows...

Haha, I'm starting to wonder this myself. Shot in the low 80's this weekend, only second time in the 80's ever, and I was disappointed that I didn't break into the 70's.

Got to the course and the range was closed so no warmup. Got off to a rocky start with doubles on the first two holes and a sore back. Caught fire on the 7th hole and played about as good as possible the rest of the way. Greens had been frozen overnight and even though thawed they were putting like ice. Had I made some putts I could easily have been -4 on the last 12 holes. Greens were so fast that I wasn't making anything despite having numerous birdie putts inside 10 feet. Best ballstriking I've had in a while though and it was windy too. I was seeing the shots in my mind and hitting exactly what my mind's eye was seeing. Pretty cool when that happens.

Haven't played for about 6 weeks, between being sick, orthoscopic surgery and the bad weather...got out Saturday, shot the ugliest 78 ever, 41/37, putter was saving me from very big numbers, front 9 could not find the greens, one putted for par or bogey, back 9 same story but the putts were falling, bad ball striking day, short game was not at it's best, again, the putter was on, so very happy in that sense...

I live in the area too but haven't played Torrey for a couple years. How's the pace of play? I can't imagine what it's like because it looks like north isn't open yet? Unless I'm mistaken.

Haven't posted in this thread for a while. I normally do when I ether have a great round or a really crappy one.

Yesterday was just.... grrrrrrr!

39-36 75. Made two birdies (one was a two put and the other was a nice 10-12' putt)

What drove me crazy was I missed SIX makable (4'-12') birdie putts purely from miss reads. I could not read the greens to save my life. I hit every put right where I wanted it to go but I was either seeing break that wasn't there, over reading it, under reading, you name it. Frustrating!

Day Three of the trip resulted in the poorest round, but I can't honestly remember the last time I had three straight rounds in the 80s... a little bit of everything went wrong today, mostly the wedges and the putter. Waaaayyyy too many lip outs again! But the big stick was on today (for the most part) and I think I've turned a corner with it, my stronger grip helps a ton, but I'm still pulling left (and then overcompensating by coming inside), so I'm gonna try a shaft change up to extra stiff to see if that straightens things out...

Played on Saturday and had one of those rounds where you struggle the entire time and feel like you forgot how to play golf. Multiple doubles, three putts, a couple shanked wedges, but somehow still managed an 84. I suppose if that's as bad as it gets, then I'm more than happy. For years, that was my good round so it's kind of mildly reassuring that it's now a bad round.

28, 8 under! Just kidding, actually took a stroll around Legends Walk night course in Orlando. Nice executive track with nice distances tee to green (from 130-220 yards) and decent greens and bunkers. Plus it's under the lights! $25 bucks was a little steep though to walk 9 par 3's. Definite recommendation for tourist. Night golf is a must at least once.

Another solid round today. Shot 75 from the white tees (6300 yards, part 72 goat track) with another triple (9F, 12G). I have had more triples in the last 2 rounds than I would normally have all year especially since I am playing pretty well (within a stroke of my index today). Somewhat frustrating.

85. 15 over from a par 70.

4 pars. No birdies, but one EAGLE.

Against the wind par 5, only about 498 yards. Hit a good driver then 3 wood.

25-30 foot uphill putt from where this photo was taken. Looked left to right, but I read it as a straight one. It was straight and in for an eagle.

Chipped in an eagle before. Can't recollect me putting one in. I was hyped.

80 at Collindale Golf Club in Fort Collins, CO. Collindale is par 71.

I played with a set of Ping i3 Blades (made in 1999-2000). I also gamed a Titleist 915 D3 9.5 degree driver. The irons and driver are not part of my normal set and are experiments with perimeter weight forgiveness and new driver technology. I have practiced with both irons and driver but cannot develop feel and confidence with either. Both my regular gamer irons and driver, '99 Hogan Apex blades and Titleist 905T 8.5* driver, goes back in the bag. Course is in early spring conditions, greens really slow and somewhat bumpy. A lot of roll on drives which is good and bad depending on accuracy. Couple of good breaks saving a stroke of two and a couple of bad breaks costing a stroke or two.

Collindale will be in mid season form in a couple/three weeks. The first stage of US Open qualifying for Northern Colorado and region is set in mid May and I guarantee the course will play fast on the greens (at least 12-12.5 on the stimp) and lush fairways and trouble lurking off the fairway. Let's see if my game and scores climb down.

Made and ace to manage a smooth 88. Golf course we played was easily the worst I have ever set foot on. Local course they have tried to save. Its just needs to be bulldozed. It built in a lake bottom and grass will simply will not grow anyplace but a green or tee box
