When Manzella starting teaching this exact same thing in 2010 I hit it great. Then overdid it, learned from it and moved on. It's not necessarily the answer to all your questions, it's more just a way to be able to identify what handle dragging is. I now know the difference between clubhead momentum and pulling the handle.

Some move from shallow to steep while other moves from steep to shallow etc. There seems to be room and need for customization in this department. I don't know why one works for some and the opposite works for others though.

I think Iteach is able to explain it. He has been touching upon this subject several times recently and he seems to understand it really well.

I'm guessing that if you asked both Rice and Malaska to demonstrate the correct club/hand position at P6, they would both show you approximately the same position. Rice's video seems more aimed at those who start down steep and need to shallow and Malaska's at those who shallow too much and get under plane. Two feels to get to the same place at P6 and ultimately at impact.

You need to alternate between the Malaska drill and the lay it off drill every 2 weeks. After 2 weeks,you really start to stand it up too much and then you need to lay it off to compensate for that. That's just the vicious cycle of golf. :)

Malaska actually went over this in one of his videos. If you are hitting low hooks then you are leading with the toe in the "stand up" position and not the heel. I was doing this as well until I made an effort to lead with the heel. This made all the difference for me. Hope it helps.

For the life of me I cannot get my hands to drop BEFORE I start turning my shoulders. Played yesterday, iron game and short game were on point, hit my driver like a total idiot.

That leading with the heel escapes me. With a strongish grip any standing up of the club or "tumble" feels like a steepening move that also closes the face.

what he's getting at is not that much different than other ways of moving....the club is lead by the heel of the trail hand instead of throwing the fingers in front of the heel. if it's a toe lead the overtake is a problem that can't be resolved as the club gets in front of the hands in error.

My thoughts exactly; these two videos are aimed at two completely different swing plane issues.

I did see that video Doc.....low hooks was not the issue......I lost the crispness of the strike (true compression) the dollar bill divots, the slight fade, and most of all, the feeling and how effortless I felt. Pretty sure my right hip started to jump out at the ball to much and loss of spine angle cause me to loose it. Humping the goat comes back to me quite often.

no sound at work but still watched the video.
from the looks of it, it's the swing method that a good friend of mine who recently started giving lessons at the local range (played in mini tours about 15 years ago) preaches.
it felt very awkward at first but it helped me a lot since my swing flaw was my right shoulder dropping down and i couldnt get the ball up in the air and hooking everything.

Why would the club head "want to swing down in the opposite direction"? Isn't the additional "weight" of the club, simply the effect of centrifugal force and therefore, in a direction perpendicular to the inertial path? The way that he's explaining the physics just doesn't make sense to me.

It might help to try and think in terms of vector forces. The clubhead does not move independantly and is affected by more than simple centripetal forces that can be applied to free moving bodies.

Thanks. I understand the vertical force of gravity acting on the club but I'm not understanding how it can equate to 5 lb of additional weight. Weight is just the mass of the club (less than 1 lb) being pulled by gravitational force. That's vertical. Anything in addition to that is produced by the movement and what we have to counteract with centripetal force which *should* be (from how I understand physics) perpendicular to the inertial path - not the ground. I only had to take one physics course and my background is architecture where things (hopefully!) are sitting still for the most part, so I'm not seeing where this 5 lb of downward force is coming from.

Golf instructors demonstrate this in slow motion, when centripedal force, angular velocity =zero
"see how heavy the 16 oz clubhead is.. NOW"

Gravity trumps CP force in slow motion.
