So whats the consensus on the T-MB combo ... AP2 or CB? I've been playing Titleist ZB (3-5 CB, 6-7 progressive CB, 8-PW MB) for 8 years, and I'm looking for something more forgiving in the long irons (I've hit the T-MB and love them) but want to ensure the distance gaping isn't out of wack. So I'm leaning towards 3-5 T-MB, 6-PW AP2. Anyone gaming this combo?
Wouldn't bother with a combo set. Just go T-MB throughout. The only reason I could see to do a combo set with cavity backs in the short irons, would be if you wanted to bend the shorter irons in some way that couldn't be accomplished with the T-MBs. I have played combo sets for years and frankly the T-MBs deliver on all fronts better than any of the combo sets I have played (both made as such Flow sets like the Cobra's or mix and match like the Mizuno or Titleist CB/MB sets)....

I could see somebody wanting to go T-MB and MB in a combo set if the T-MBs hit it too high in the short irons for them...........
I guess the reason I would combo are the 8,9, PW. The strongest part of my game are my short irons, I love controlling trajectory and spin and don't really need to hit those clubs long and high. I've only hit the 3 iron and 5 iron but have heard you lose some feeling in the shorter irons, I've also heard the PW feels somewhat hallow. You haven't had that experience?

i have been talking about the t-mb every since my extensive demo about 3 weeks ago. my t-mb came in 4 days ago, and final got a chance for 36 holes today, where i hit the t-mb vs the ap2 716. The t-mb is better then i originally thought, they feel great, are very forgiving, and go higher and longer then the ap2. It beat the ap2 in every category. i was impressed with the demo, but after 36 holes they are really that good.
Were you fitted for the T-MB & AP2s? Are you just going to get rid of the AP2s?
I've decided I'm getting a set, but I'm trying to resist the urge to order of T-MB's without trying them first. I think I better test them if only to get the correct shaft. I know that I am stock loft, length, and lie, but I'm between the Modus 120 S, the stock S300 AMT, or even the AMT S400 TI soft-stepped or something.
Looking down on them they look a little upright, I would definitely get fitted. I'm stock length, lie, loft but felt these were just a tad too upright for me. Titleist is known to be a little more upright but the the T-MBs seemed excessive.

Was going to ask about the gap between your 46* PW and your 54* GW but I'm guessing you have an extra wedge. I only see 13 clubs.

I had heard exactly the same but this certainly isn't what I have found. In fact I find the shorter irons to play just like normal muscle-backs in terms of feeling and workability, but with way more forgiveness with respect to distance loss. I had fully intended going 4-7 (T-MB) and 8-PW (MB) but after hitting the T-MBs in the full set see no need to at all and I am extremely picky when it comes to feel etc......

Nope, that's the whole shabang. Switched out the former 52, 56, 60 setup long ago and haven't looked back.

i got to try the 716 AP2 line out, never hit the 714 so i can't compare the two. from what i hit and stuff, i didn't like the chrome finish on it. felt like it would have an awful glare when the sun hits it at address. it felt soft i guess but did also feel some what firm in away. i thought the top line and sole of the ap2 seemed lil bigger then i thought. swing weight seemed alright. too me i feel like if i spent a few days with them id could get used to them. coming from a blade to it felt semi chunky too me. wish the sole and the thickness of the profile head was some way smaller but performed the same. now the mb are something that i think i would be more my path. if i get hate about my post, it's cool.

The 716 line all have satin faces so there's minimal glare. The 714 AP2s were the same way. The 712s had a chrome finish that caused some wicked glare every so often.

Just got my set today, went straight to the range with a friend. We share similar specs and I was hitting them side by side with my J40 DPC's, his Mizuno MP-5's. All three had Modus 120's in stiff, same length and near as damned it lie angles. Cut a long story short, these are incredible, hit a few scuffy thin shots and I kept being surprised how far they got out there, the flight is different but still ends up somewhere close to the intended target. i went through a patch where I was stripping it so hit a few of the MP-5's, not even close, clearly I am not the ball striker to use the Mizzy's as even on what felt like good strikes they were a good 10 yards behind the TMB's, more importantly the dispersion was better with the TMB's.

I had used J40's DPC's for a season or so and was very happy with them and really thought that it would be very difficult to beat it for accuracy and forgiveness. For sure I tried and had used J15 CB's for 6 months but really the J40's fitted me better. The TMB's beat them. Without a doubt the ball flight is better the dispersion is tighter and they just look so good behind the ball. No on course time yet but they will go straight in the bag for a round on Saturday.

Great to hear! Being that you're a scratch player, do you feel they are still something the 7-10 hcp. player could play comfortably with?

That confirms what I thought and our regional rep said. They are more forgiving than the AP2, just under (obviously) the AP1. More people will be able to handle this iron than they think.
