Ping Eye 2's, Yonex Carbonex II driver, several different putters, cant remember which fairway woods.

BTW - I recently put a "vintage" bag together built around my Eye 2's that I still have. The irons are still great clubs; the laminated woods not so great.

In 1985 I think I had graduated from a mismatched partial set to my dad's old set of Wilson Gene Sarazens 2 through 9 iron. I had a secondhand Ken Smith driver, and a Wilson Harmonized 3 wood. My putter was a brass Spaulding Cash In, and I mostly hit Top Flites. I remember hitting Club specials, but that may've been pre 85, too many years ago to say for sure.

30 years ago I was 16, and here is what I had-

I started playing golf in 82 and back then Watson was the man, as you can tell by my clubs.....

Golden Ram Tom Watson Persimmon TW801
I think I still had some crappy laminated fairway woods that were replaced around that time by a Watson persimmon 3 wood with a graphite insert and a Hagen Crenshaw 4 wood with X100s
Golden Ram Tour Grind VMs 2-PW with X100 tipped (after college I put S-500s in them)
Ram Axial SW, or as it was called, the magic stick. I was deadly with that club!
I would switch between the two putters I owned. Either a PING Anser 2 or an Old Master W802.

I don't know what happened to my original TW801, but when I started playing again two years ago after not touching the clubs for 20 years I found a brand new one on ebay for $20! Couldn't believe it. Kismet! I still have everything else, except for the PING. I lost that somewhere along the line. I refinished the Old Master last year and now it looks perfect. Love that putter, but I am afraid to take it anywhere. I have had it since I was 12. I would be heartbroken if I ever lost it.

In 85 I was playing with my dad's clubs which were Ram Tom Shaw blades. The woods were also Rams. Putter was a Kroydon small mallet style.Over last weekend I did rescue the putter from the bag at my sister's place. Couldn't grab the whole bag because we had the wife's van and she thinks I have to many sets at our place:-( here is a shot of the 2 iron I have here.
Great thread!

1967/8 MacGregor VIP by Nicklaus 2-W. 1970 Titleist SW. Tommy Armour IMG putter
MacGregor M-09 driver. Titleist 3-4 woods. Most of it is still in my vintage bag today.
Traded out the SW for a 1968 Golfcraft Continental, because I wore out the Titleist.
Added a Mac M-06 6-wood.
I played only 6 or 7 times this year. Sadly, I never got the vintage kit out of the basement.

Powerbilt Citation Persimmon Driver
Powerbilt Citation Laminated 4 Wood
Wilson Staff FG-17 1-PW
Wilson Staff JP Sand Wedge, one of the first with JP in block letters.
Wilson 8802 80s remake putter, among others.

I recently picked up a Citation laminated 5 Wood with a loose brass backweight. I removed the backweight and weighed it and it was 51 grams. Pretty significant compared to the 10 gram or less interchangeable weights of today that are alleged to make a difference.

I only go back 25+ years in golf. My first set was off the shelve, and was 3-PW Pings for 6-8 months, then switched to 1 & 2 and 3-PW Mizuno blades and Balata or Professional 100 ball.

I think a TM Tour Burner, 9.5, Ti shaft, Tour Spoon, 13*, DG steel, either Hogan Directors from '74 or Ping Eye. Maybe a Zebra, Anser, 8802, or something. I tended to run through putters, and I loaned a couple that never came back. A Wilson JP something SW. The Zebra and Anser disappeared, sold the Pings, bought Eye 2's, and I still have all this stuff. And a bunch of newer stuff. Which my wife mentions from time to time.

It's in pristine condition considering how few if any had covers back in the day.

Have a great weekend Bro :)

Let's see, 1985.

1979 Wilson Staff Tour Blade irons
Wilson Staff JP Custom Grind PW
Wilson Geo Low Original 600 putter

The above clubs are still in the regular rotation. The putter is my main putter regardless of the style of clubs I am using.

Driver-Bert Dargie Persimmon, Taylormade Burner 7*, Powerbilt Citation
(actually, I think I had the Powerbilt about '83, traded it for the Taylormade, then sold the Taylor and bought the Dargie about '86.)
I still have the Dargie, but don't play with it much. I do have another recently acquired Dargie that I play a lot.
Wilson Staff JP Persimmon 3 wood. I still have it and play it once in a while.
Hogan Persimmon 5 wood. It cracked around 1986 and I replaced it with a 16* Taylor Raylor which I still have and use in my "modern" bag.

Drivers: Titleist 915D2 9.5* Aldila Rogue 60-3.8-S
Titleist TS2 Tensei AV55 S flex
Fairway: Callaway Rogue 15* Proj X Evenflow Blue 6.0
Hybrid: Titleist 818H1 21*
Irons: Titleist 718AP1 5-GW2
Wedges: Vokey SM6 , 56-10S, 60-08M
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2.5 35"
Ball: Titleist AVX

Wow, 30 years ago. I would have been 22 and in college. Like another poster my bag would have been softball equipment.

But when we did make the course it was a set of MacGregor Golden Bears. 3-PW and 1,3,&5 woods. I got them as a birthday present when I turned 13. I still have the irons.

Incidentally, it was the next year when I started "hoing". A set of Maxfli 357 irons was the first set I purchased. Man did I catch hell from the wife (think we might have been married for three or four months). Our first golf fight!

Your story brought back a vivid memory; the first time I really caught sh*t from my wife for a personal purchase. It wasn't golf related though, it was a set of skis, boots and bindings that cost me about $1200 on sale! I had just gotten back into alpine skiing that winter. She absolutely flipped and I was in the doghouse for what seemed like months! We had been married over twenty years at that point so I guess I was overdue!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent
