Something interesting to watch: if Adidas and Nike continue to be active signing guys to clothing/shoe deals and don't allow other logos on their apparel.......does that drive up the price that OEMs have to pay for their top guys on head-to-toe deals? Or do companies like Callaway just give in and sign guys to equipment only deals with no logos needed on hats, shirts, etc. I think that would fly in the face of what Harry said after the Nike hard goods announcement. He basically used Spieth as an example and said nobody even knows what equipment Jordan plays, but they sure as heck know he is an Under Armour guy.

Except Adidas does allow other sponsor branding on their apparel...

My understanding from my source was that is they sign equipment deals with others they lose 1/2 their contract with Nike, so it may be smart for some to just continue to play it out and make the $

I'm assuming you are referring to current Nike staffers who have full apparel and equipment deals?

Could this be any reason to think Nike may buy Taylormade equipment company?

No.

I guess you missed the news. Nike is out of the equipment business. They are strictly a soft goods company now.

I think he's referring to Nike owning the TMag company but TMag keeps its branding. Therefore, Nike doesn't release golf equipment but rather lets TMag release equipment instead.

LOL..........they will need to sell a whole bunch of apparel/shoes to cover that deal. Strange, Nike has a lot of different styles when it comes to golf shoes but the current tour staff seems pretty consistent in wearing the LC4's. Wonder why that is?

What the tour pros wear isn't that big of a deal to me but probably important to some. I'm much more interested in how they have their bag set.

well the LC4's are their premier shoe, that's like asking why the footjoy pros aren't wearing greenjoys and contour casuals.

you'll see a smattering of pros in the flyknit elites and chukkas, but a majority will wear the shoe that they're used to in terms of fit and style, for nike its the lunar control line, for footjoy its the dryjoy tours, with a decent amount of pros wearing DNAs and freestyles.

Everything you said was right except where you said DryJoy tours were the most popular FJ shoe. The Icons are definitely the most popular FJ shoe and the most premier. The dryjoy tours certainly fall in a similar price range as the LC line from Nike, but definitely not FJ's premier shoe.

DJ is next. DJ wearing Nike is not hard to imagine at all. He fits perfectly. As much as I hate to say that.

I could be wrong but I think DJ re-signed with adidas recently!

does this mean Nike is buying TM? that would set a precedent for Nike, at this level of marketting. they bought Bauer a few years back so this could potentially work?

with this new deal, does Day in all his TM commercials would have to wear Nike cloting? i can't see Nike paying him all the money and not have all their logo in equipment commercials
