He's won 7 pga tour events with the same iron setup (RSI TP) in not even a years time; I wouldn't change a thing.

RBC Canadian in July - Players in May

Probably why Jason didn't switch to the new PSi Forged irons.

Sticking with what works? Hah! You forget, this is GolfWRX. I'm sad to say Jason wouldn't fit in here.

I don't see it happening either. If he changes anything, he will switch clothing when TM gets sold off but even then, I'm betting you'll see TM and Adidas on JDay next year too.

OP are you saying Knight pulls his personal wallet out to fly two rich guys around to hang? wow.....

I am just saying the 2 have been hanging out a lot.

I am guessing that Nike golf has a budget for player deals, Phil Knight opens the non golf budget to make big things happen like bringing in the best player in the world.

Tough to say. Nike works differently then the other manufacturers. Unlike TM and Titleist that have a lot of top billing guys, Nike seems to prefer 1 big name and then a bunch of minions following behind. Nike has pretty much made Rory the face of Nike to supplant Tiger. Not sure how'd they market Day in there. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen. Nike has the money to pay both. Just curious to see how'd they market Day and Rory together.

What if Nike is the front runner to the TM deal? I could see that happening.

This rumor has been around for about a year. It was reaching a fevered pitch when I was traveling and was in Dallas at the time. It seemed like it was imminent, but some well place folks I knew quashed it. Could it happen now with TMaG on the ropes? Personally, I don't think he leaves until they make a final call on their status given the success he's had. OR unless Nike (Tiger) facilitates a check so large, he'd be crazy not to accept it in order to set up his kids' great-great grandchildren.

I doubt that. They would have to either get rid of one brand, double marketing spending, or turn one brand into a niche market area. Unless there is some magic tech they want from Taylormade, which is unlikely, this would really surprise me.

On the topic of Day leaving; it is possible but I dont see why TM wouldnt match what Nike would put down. Adidas pays big sponsorship dollars, and they have been paying it for a long time. It has been a while since they have had someone on the top of the heap, and they are going to just let him walk? Better to cut the entire rest of the roster than let that happen.

One of the benefits that NIKE has is they are a one and only sponsor. w/ Jasons family life I think that could be a big reason to go to NIKE. Less mandatory appearances less travel. Much better when you can get near the same amount of money and have less requirements from sponsors.

This comes under the "how much money do you need?" category.

I like Day. But, even though I'm not a big TM fan, I would lose some respect for the guy if he switched to Nike for $$$.

He's had huge success playing TM, undoubtedly already has more money than he knows what to do with.

So why switch?

Why switch? Family...kids...providing for their future? How much money is enough? Maybe when they think it's enough. This is a guy who grew up dirt poor. That used to be on his mind before he figured out that he couldn't play like that. But I would contend that feeling never fully goes away.

If I were in his boat and were literally offered $100M over a decade to wear the Swoosh, I could live with your disappointment and gleefully accept the Direct Deposits. :)

My initial thought was that perhaps Day would sign a deal similar to what Spieth has with Under Armour and Titleist. Sign primary endorsement deal with adidas, and then a club deal with TaylorMade (assuming they aren't bought by an existing OEM that already has an apparel line). However some recent comments by adidas on their future strategy have me doubting the likelihood of this happening.

As much as I do not want to seem him wearing/playing Nike in the future, if they are willing to back the Brinks trucks up to the house I don't see how you can turn that down.

If I'm Jason I stay where I am a little more "king of the hill"...Not that Nike wouldn't make him feel special but they have Tiger and Rory...two's company...Three's a crowd. Somebody is getting less that stellar marketing position

Nike had Lebron, Kobe and Durant. Marketing not a problem.

Great opportunity for Nike. And TW is maybe doing a little recruiting. I imagine he would benefit from the overall growth of Nike Golf.

This guy can move some merchandise>

Lebron, Kobe and Durant play in a much more popular sport that allows Nike to sell clothing and shoes over a wide range of people.

Golf is a niche sport, and there isnt endless money there. They're already shelling out big bucks for McIlroy and Tiger.

I always enjoy threads like these when a young player gets on a heater and wins a bunch of tournaments. It wasnt that long ago that most WRXers had Jordan Spieth leaving Titleist. Day is THE GUY at TaylorMade right now. Its not like they're gonna just let him walk away for nothing.
