Has anyone's game been better after switching to Nike?

Mine was great! Shouldn't really have got rid of the Split Cavities...

It's sounds crazy. But, there are people out there that have changed their equipment cause of a tour player. I know a few guys that I see a couple times a month made the switch to Nike cause of Rory.

This comes under the "how much money do you need?" category.

I like Day. But, even though I'm not a big TM fan, I would lose some respect for the guy if he switched to Nike for $$$.

He's had huge success playing TM, undoubtedly already has more money than he knows what to do with.

So why switch?

I hear this often about many sports where someone gets angry because (insert pro athlete's name) goes to another team for more money and a longer contract. You can't sit hear and tell me you wouldn't do the same thing in your profession. Anyone trying to build a better retirement and financial stability would.

Bill Gates has more money than he knows what to do with and while Jason Day is more than financially comfortable, he's only in his 20's and likely has 50 more years or so of life. He's gifted, so why wouldn't he take advantage of his talent and build that same stability for his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc. in signing a huge GUARANTEED contract with a manufacturer known to sign 9 digit deals.

Please I hope not. I would much rather have Jason Day stay with his Taylormade set up and maybe clothed by UnderArmour since Adidas is going to give up the brand. I think it would be in Jason Days best interest to get with Under Armour which by the looks of it has pretty deep pockets. Heck these guys can probably play anything.

I just dont see it, JD has had too much success with TMAG... but then again he could probably pick up any set and still win with the way hes playing right now

Well Rory was having success with Titleist.....and we know how that panned out.

He could probably play Nike but I am thinking Rory is their young gun. You put Jason on the Nike account and Rory might not mean as much to Nike especially since they still have Tiger on the books. It would cost way to much for Nike to grab Jason Day now.!

If I'm Jason I stay where I am a little more "king of the hill"...Not that Nike wouldn't make him feel special but they have Tiger and Rory...two's company...Three's a crowd. Somebody is getting less that stellar marketing position

Nike had Lebron, Kobe and Durant. Marketing not a problem.

Great opportunity for Nike. And TW is maybe doing a little recruiting. I imagine he would benefit from the overall growth of Nike Golf.

This guy can move some merchandise>

Agree. Day is a marketers dream for a conservative sport like golf. Happy family: tick. Great back story of working his way up from struggle street: tick. No off course baggage: tick. Clean cut and very respectful when interviewed: tick. World number 1 and major winner: tick. Not much not to like from a marketing perspective.

Let's see in a year or so what happens....I don't expect Titleist to keep Spieth, as they refuse to pay big $$$. And we'll see what the new owners of TM do with the company. Day will have power in his hands, for sure......Callaway doesn't have a consistent top dog in the race, and Ping is pretty low key, as they always have been.......Day could sign the last HUGE contract.......

Do any non golf people know who Jason Day is? Tiger is a household name, Rory has some traction outside the game, but if you don't watch the Tour, you probably have never heard of Day. Doesn't Nike like their big names to have "crossover" appeal?

You could say that about anyone but Tiger Woods. Including Jack Nicklaus! I've said it before and will say it again. You could show a photo of the top 10 golfers in the world to a non-golfer and ask that person who the person is and not one will answer correctly. They may know them as a golfer, but won't get their name right. Everyone knows who Tiger is and I'm willing to bet a paycheck on it. That will likely never happen again in this game. That's how much of an impact Tiger had on golf.

I wasn't implying that the switch to Nike hasn't gone well. I meant it as even though he was playing great with his Titleist equipment he still switched coming off his best season as a pro.

If this is actually true, Nike will be ruling the golf world with Tiger, Rory, and Day... the only acquisition left would be Spieth ;)

By having all three they would have all playing levels covered. Tiger at 40 probably over the hill but has done a lot for Nike sales particularly clothing. Rory and Jason virtually the same age with Jason being the best in the world at the moment, but maybe Rory is starting to find his game.. Jason is playing well with TM but nobody knows what will happen after they are sold. Worked for Titleist and Cobra but not so hot for Hogan, Spalding, MacGregor, Adams, Puma has actually improved the Cobra brand after being an afterthought at Achusnet.. I doubt under American Brands Titleist would ever have tried something like the C16.

They like them to be athletes and in the winner's circle. Just speculation here, but Jason Day, although now rooted in 'Murica, has ties and possible marketing appeal in Australia and the Philippines, which could springboard into broader marketing appeal in other parts of Asia. Maybe some Aussie or Filipino posters can chime in on that (aka tell me I'm wrong. It's okay I don't mind)

But I mean how much crossover appeal does Koepka and Finau have? Seemingly not much compared to El Tigre, but look deeper and you can see that the potential is there. Young - athletic - "bros" - appealing to some of the brotato chips that might wear, and maybe even play, Nike

IIRC people were saying that right after Phil won his first major and he switched manufactures not long after...

Difference is, Phil was with Titleist at the time. They never open the check book when it comes time to pay up. Callaway made Phil an offer that has helped set him up for life basically, it's not Rory or Tiger money, but it's large and it might as well be for the rest of his career at this point. TaylorMade will pay up, at least more so than Titleist. But as I said earlier, no one has the bank roll like Nike. If they want Day, they'll likely get him.

This may be the biggest understatement ever on Golf WRX. Tiger built the entire NIKE Golf Brand.
