First of all, you would think that 90% of guys had ED issues considering how often they are pushing these pills down our throats... which is very far from the case.

 

Secondly, I can't even watch golf on TV anymore because almost every commercial break they are running these ads where some super hot model girl can't wait for her man to pop another boner pill so they can have sex. And it's not even implied, as they have to remind you to ask your doctor if your heart is even healthy enough for sex. It's not family friendly TV at all. I have two little girls, and I have to worry about them even being in the same room with me when watching men's golf events.

 

Why is golf targeted so hard for this stuff? And why isn't this a discrete issue between yourself and your doctor? What is it about golf that draws this advertising? Does this imply that golf is all a bunch of divorced 60 year old dudes with 30 year old wives or something?

IMHO, all medical, pharma commercials need to go away. Watch a couple of commercials and then go tell your Doc you want a script... thats just bad news.

you do realize you can get these without running ads every 10 minutes on tv right? you talk to your doctor in his office, and he writes a prescription based on your described issues. And while you're there, he should probably check your prostate so bend over sir.

The viewing audience for golf is dominated by middle age and older men. Same reason you see more financial investment, life insurance, and luxury cars/goods than while watching other sports or TV in general.

Viagra is one of the most popular and profitable drugs out there. If cyanide pills were equally popular and profitable, there would be endless ads for them as well. I understand the OP's dismay about the ads, but it's all about the dollars.

If you think golf programming is loaded with such ads (which they are), try Fox news. Fox advertisers must think the viewers are completely medically broken down. Mesothelioma seems to be happening to everyone based on the number of commercials (by lawyers). Pimples are on everybody's face. Gastrointestinal problems galore. Incontinence is a major issue. Personal care products also are abundant. At least feminine care products aren't advertised so often as in the past. Ridiculous.

 

The other major annoyance is any advertising by lawyers. It is no wonder we are a sue-happy society.

 

In my day, cigarettes and beer were the scandalous ads. Hard liquor was prohibited along with lawyers and medical ads. Ah..the good ol' days.

 

But, as already stated, it is all in the money.

What is amazing is how many patients we respond to who are on this stuff. The ads are popular for a good reason.

 

Ironically Viagra started out as a treatment for high blood pressure. For women. When it worked really well they tested it on men. And they noted some "side effects". A new industry was born.

 

I can only imagine the first docs who took note of those "side effects"; their intent was to check their patient's blood pressure and next thing you know their patients are reporting this wonderful additional benefit. "Sure, doc, my BP has never been better but wait till you get a load of this..."

 

Wow....

 

And if we administer Nitro to a patient with chest pain who has taken this stuff in the last day or so - could be a death sentence. (lowers the BP and when the Ntg causes the BP to drop they might have a hard time recovering especially if their heart is weak from the infarction) I cannot tell you how many people lied initially when I asked them "Have you taken any erectile dysfunction medications in the last 24 to 36 hours?" and they reply no - until I tell them that if I give them my med and they took Cialis or Viagra it could kill them. One guy's wife actually spoke up. "You tell them the truth Herb. We used it last night!"

If you've never heard of priapism, and the methods doctors have to use to treat it in some cases...that's where the 4 hour number comes from. I remember reading the novel Vertical, which is the follow up to Sideways (the wine book/movie). One of the characters gets priapism from too much Viagra. It's one of the hardest (no pun intended) scenes to read that I've ever come cross.

I've always thought this side effect warning was really just a sneaky bit of marketing.

 

I find the heavy innuendo with the hot wife laying on the bed and whatnot really tacky, so I wish they'd just get to the point in these commercials. Show a sad guy as a "before" and then the same guy plowing some woman as an "after", and change the slogan to something like "Viagra: Make Your **** Hard". Much more direct and honest that way.

There is litterally a phama pill for EVERYTHING now days. I heard a commercial on the radio for a prescription for "Shift Work Disorder". I guess if you work the night shift you have issues and need to see your doctor.

No idea why they target us ? Just for advice though whilst I'm here, I'm toying about getting a stiff or extra stiff shaft in my new bigger headed driver as I feel my current shaft is to flexible. Im having trouble keeping my balls in the air long enough which is effecting distance ? Any thoughts ?
