How hot is too hot for you?

I don't have a maximum temperature, but as an avid walker, I will ride if it's mid-90s or higher, especially on a hilly course. My problem at the higher temperatures/humidity is keeping my hands dry/keeping a grip on the club.

I think the worst here in Florida is when it is brutally hot, rains for just a bit, stops raining, and just becomes steamy. Really hard because you perspire so much every shot requires a change of gloves just about. You end up with four or five gloves hanging from the cart drying and rotating them in and out of play.

This year we've played in 23 degree temps to 115. That 92 point differential is just about my average score this year.

The thing I've found is using wrist bands to keep arm sweat from migrating to the hands solves a big part of the problem. I don't wear a glove and use tacky grips. I used to use cords but they really were abrasive in the winter. My palms are not sweaty so a quick towel off of the hands before a shot does the trick. Sweat literally drips of the rest of me, but with the sweat bands, the hands are manageable.

Played yesterday in 97 temp 102 heat index. Would have been a much better round if had been 15 holes. Was playing well, then hit a wall with a couple to go.

 

I haven't found "too hot" yet, but I take a cart if it's over 90. After my wife had to go to the ER to get an iv to rehydrate after walking on a day like yesterday we instituted that rule.

I'll play if it's anywhere between 50 and 100 degrees. I played last Friday in the Chicagoland area. It was 93 with high humidity....pretty brutal but I played 36 at Oak Grove with a bum wrist. Super drained by the end of the day but well worth it.

Played the middle of the afternoon Friday and Saturday, both were 110+ heat index. Doesn't bother me at all.

For a big guy, I love hot weather. I like to walk the course when I can, and generally don't do so above 90, but I've carted around up to 105 happy as a clam.

 

The hottest temp I've ever experienced was 112 in Las Vegas one year. I didn't play, but I was in friggin' heaven. I'm sure I could have shot a round if I had my clubs with me.

It's never too hot for me to play golf, or do anything else outside for that matter. I love the heat. Here in GA we've seen mid 90s temps (heat index much more) for about 40+ straight days now. I've played 6 days a week minimum during all of that. Typically like to walk unless I'm playing with people that insist on riding.

 

I won't/can't play in the cold though. Anything under 60 degrees and I freeze. I'd rather live in a climate where it's 105 all year 'round than it dropping below 60.

It's been too hot lately (90's and humid). But I've been playing anyway. I'm hoping to get used to it. I find it's been most difficult to keep it together over the last few holes when I just get a little lethargic.

 

Even 90° and humid wouldn't be so bad with cloud cover. That sun just zaps my energy.

Relocated from Orange County, CA to Little Rock and I think I have adjusted pretty well despite the recent indices of 105+. For me it has been about drinking a powerade before the round and absolutely flooding myself with water while I play. Not really different than the mentality I had when playing courses in Palm Springs during the summer. A rabid obsession for golf will also help you power through pretty much any heat. I also make sure to lather up in sunscreen and wear a bucket hat while on the range. I've gotten used to rotating gloves several times during the round too lol Ever want to see how much you sweat duing a round? Wear a grey shirt and undergarments. Gross.

I just get grumpy as hell when it's too hot out (over 90) and usually immediately get a headache and consider wearing a damn shemagh at that point.

 

It's just not fun at all but I have to do it since a lot of our monthly tournaments start at 1pm in furnace like heat. Definitely don't walk when it's over 90.

 

Gimme 68 degrees please (and Eva Green as caddy.)

Hottest I've ever played was 117 (air temp) in Tucson. My dad and I took a cart that day. We regularly played in triple digits since that was the only option.

0) Pre-hydrate

1) Ice chest, add ice, water, and little bit of Florida Water for dunking a floppy hat and wetting towels.

 

2) Ice chest #2 for drinks and more ice.

3) Salt- put a little pinch on the tongue.

4) Protein/Nut bars

5) FootJoy StaCool Gloves.

6) Tourwrap 2G grips.

7) Look for shade

8) Ride in carts.

Living in Alabama my whole life I've adapted to the scorching temperatures in the summer. I can play when it's 100 with 85% humidity, but I've been out to the range a few times and it has just drained me. I guess it's because I'm just swinging over and over again and sweating my butt off. I have to play cord grips and use baby powder just to help with the moisture due to the humidity. I can play in just about anything, but practice is a different story.

I don't really think there's a day that's too hot or humid for me. I walked 18 on Friday, walked 16.5 at The International Crown on Saturday (following Yang/Chun vs. Lee/Oh), and rode 18 on Sunday. The heat index each day was ~105. It's not refreshing, but it's certainly doable.

I almost always walk, and I typically don't like to play if the Real Feel temperature is going to be over 95-100. In the midwest, that's usually high humidity and low wind.

 

I have played in those temperatures, but it's just not as enjoyable. You need three gloves and two towels and you really feel bad the rest of the day.
