At least this puts the stupid rumor aside he was buying TaylorMade. Playing a Bridgestone ball and using a Scotty Cameron putter and no mention of TaylorMade on hat or bag pretty much confirms no ownership. Sounds like a custom set of blades like Callaway did for Rory coming up. TaylorMades iron offerings have been pretty mediocre lately, probably why Dustin still uses the old MBs. Now the question will be how tigers back will hold up for 2 days as he tries to match the two big bombers in the group today in Day and Johnson.. Will be interesting to see who makes the forgings as endo/Epon seem to be struggling with quality and profit. And the Muira purchaser made it sound like they had no interest in building and restamping irons for other OEMs. Billionaire wants Muira brand name like PXG as a premium offering not a contractor for others..

That is exactly what I do not understand.... How do you hit every iron imaginable according to Notah and then tell Taylormade make me custom irons? Should just stick with his Miura's. Not like he needs the money from Taylormade.

 

Great point! Tiger had no affinity for TM irons before, but this was about just getting another fat club deal. Tiger, just play what helps you win from this point on. He tried this strategy with his Tiger-designed Vapors and he ditched them quickly.

I assume that money did play a big role in the decision. Sure, he doesn't 'need' the money, but I think signing a contract is good for his confidence. I'm guessing it's ingrained that when you show up on the first tee and the other players know you're getting paid more, the expectation is that you play better. Shouldn't matter at this stage in the game, but it's Tiger we're talking about. Being isolated from the general public since he was 20 has had a certain impact.

 

I don't think they did him any favors pairing him with the top of the TM stable in JDay and DJ. I'm envisioning him pointing to the gallery from the tee box with that new M1 driver. "Fore!"
