I love the look of these but I have not jumped on one because of my previous experience with the white "s slant" from a few years ago. Back then, I had wanted a slant neck spider for so long...finally it was released and I snapped one up. At first I was amazed...it was one of the most automatic putters I've ever owned for putts inside 15 feet, but my lag putting was a complete nightmare with it; when it cooled off a little on the shorter ones I finally had to send it on its way. I play my putters at 35 inches, and with that "s slant" head weighing in at 360g it swing-weighed at a whopping head heavy F0. I think the total weight was about 520g, which is nearing the top end of what I want.

So can anyone please comment on if they have checked a JD version's swing weight and total weight at 35 inches? I'm not really interested in counter weighting and adding to total weight for the sake of reducing a head-heavy feel. I know the heads are 355g and I just kinda wish they were about 10-15g's lighter. Maybe I'm way off base though. And maybe I will like it anyway this time. I did roll one recently and liked it but that was just on a small golf shop putting green.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,

lou

lou,

Weights are removable and replaceable. Could you get what you want changing them?

Bought the JD red version yesterday. LOVE it. I never realized how much a sight line didn't matter. Without one it allows me to focus more on the roll and less on the stroke...my downfall

Ok folks I just got my replacement DJ model in the mail today. Per an earlier post of mine, the first one they sent had 3 dings in the face insert. And like others mentioned it did sit just a smidgen open. TMs customer service was great and they sent the replacement quickly.

Here are some things I noticed. The first Spider's insert sat flush with the face BUT the face had an ever so slight bulge toward the toe. You had to look really really closely and you could feel the bulge with your finger. The replacement's face was consistently flat across the whole face.

Here's where the "open" vs "closed" issue comes up. The first Spider sat slightly open. It didn't matter how I held it. The Second Spider sat pretty square.

Here's where I think the issue lies: it's where the slant neck meets the putter head. The first Spider's neck was angled open. It should theoretically point dead straight head. It didn't. The 2nd Spider's neck did point ahead much straighter.

Long story short the Taylormade's QC is ALL over the place.

For those of you saying the open vs square isn't true...I've got two DJ Spiders that are drastically different from each other. It makes sense now why people flock to stores to try multiple of the same model.

I would encourage everyone to try multiple if you can. QC is all over the place. I'll take it out to the course soon though.

Made the mistake of regripping mine with a larger grip today. Immediately ordered another Winn Medalist from Golfworks. Lesson learned. Leave perfection alone.

Yeah I ordered the 8 grams weights because I wanted to add some weight but afraid of messing with the good juju I've had with the putter so far. I know they come stock at 350 but feels lighter than others at the same weight but why mess with it right?

What grip? What as the issue?

Winn 1.60. Usually use larger grips ... maybe part of the problem. Putting the medalist back on asap.

Is it true that the Spider Tour Red is softer than the Spider Tour Black or is that just a myth?

I've used a Scotty for like 30 years now and have been using the spider for about 6 months. If the guys at TCC find out, I could be banned for life.

Are these real different to most mallets? I'm looking for something stable but I've only ever had a blade not sure if i should go with a 5W or a Spider red

If say spider. You use a putter a lot more in a round compared to a 5wd.

I want to order a Spider Tour so badly but so many people have said on this thread that many of the models sit open at address. It appears that I would be taking a $300 gamble hoping that it will sit square when it seems that there's a relatively high chance that the one I get will sit open. For that reason, I don't think I can justify spending this money on this putter that might or might not sit square at address.

Or go to your local store and try the model you want and find one that sits more square

There are 3 stores that stock them that are within a 45 minute from where I live. They all said that it will be at least a month until they're back in stock so that's not an option for me unfortunately.

Worth getting in store and looking at these guys as everyone is different.

I have personally had 2 x 35" and then now 2 x 34"

My 35" Red was what i believed to sit square.

My 35" Black wasn't to bad but had to be manipulated to sit square.

Both my 34" sit perfect. Can sit them down behind the ball and not have to change face at all to sit square.

Just fruit for thought if your looking at purchasing may be worth getting in and trying them.

All of mine were ordered online via Taylormade.
